Just returned from guadelupe and had full limits of yellowfin tuna to 90# along with some absolutely beautiful guadelupe grade yellowtail from 35 to 44 #s. With good weather to boot. A good trime was had by all. We have a spot open on a 5 day leaving on Nov 07 Returning on the 12th. 12 people $ 1500. Please call the landing at 619 221 8500.

The last couple of days we have experienced some fun Coronado Island fishing for yellowtail, bluefin tuna, calico bass and barracuda on private charters. As a result we have switched our open party trips to Island trips. These trips will unfortunately require a passport and will begin on Monday. The best setups have been a 20 or 25 lb flyline setup and a 30-40 lb setup to fish a yo-yo lure or dropper loop. Plenty of targets for all you jig chuckers as well. The cost of this trip is $225 which includes your Mexican Fishing License, your FMM visitors visa, your biosphere reserve bracelet, plenty of live bait and 5 seasoned crewmen. Rental rods, fish cleaning and food will be extra. We have a full galley onboard with plenty of ice cold beer, soda and water. We also offer delicious burgers and all your basic breakfast items. J. J. Gerritsen docked his Apollo at Fisherman's landing January 21 after a trip of a day and a half to the Colnett area. "We fished the high spots," he said, "when we saw really good sign of yellows on the sonar. We had good action on drifts for 26 yellowtail, most on yoyo jigs in blue and white or scrambled eggs color. "About 9:30 a.m. we moved into deeper water to rockfish on slow drifts. We had excellent ling cod fishing on lings up to 20 pounds. We got 78 of them, mostly on the dropper loop with sardines, but some on jigs, too. We filled out our limits with reds anmd some large bonito. There were a lot of bonito around, up to 14 pounds. "We also had a flurry of Humboldt squid, which hindered the yellowtail fishing until they left." J. J. said he would be running these trips every Friday night at right p.m. through the end of February.

Hi friends. We just wrapped up an epic day and a half trip this morning. Drew really set the stage for this two-day trip that we departed on this afternoon.

On Thursday, we landed 16 bluefin before we even rubbed the boogers out of our eyes and from there we picked and scratched on various jig strikes on yellowfin and kelp paddy fish. A little after lunch, Gunny spotted a kelp that wrapped up our day on yellowfin and dorado. Awesome fishing in flat calm weather. Beautiful. The "blackhawk" strikes again. It really was a fantastic trip and we're hoping for more of the same tomorrow. Oh yeah, we also caught 4 slug albacore. Call Susan and book your spots for 2013 ASAP! Do it.

The Annual SFR charter aboard the Apollo with Captain J.J Gerritsen and crew was a big success !! The Apollo is running out of Sea Landing on beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor, the closest harbor to the outer Channel Islands. Great weather meant an ideal cruise over to San Miguel Island for some of the finest shallow water rockfishing you'll find anywhere. 300 feet down you say, maybe 200, how about 100 feet ? No way. The offshore terrain around San Miguel is so rugged and marked with underwater pinnacles, we spent most of the day fishing in 25 to 90 feet of water. Lighter rigs, jigs, leadheads and swimbaits were the order of the day, and the San Miguel rockfish were in a hungry mood. We started catching fish before daybreak and spent the rest on the trip hauling up huge reds, chuckles and lings, all sporting some of the most vibrant colors I've seen on any fish in a long time. Awesome day!! We limited out on huge rockfish, slammed about 50-60 grumpy whitefish, 5-6 huge goats and 16 or so pre-historic looking lings before calling it a trip. Epic day !!!! The jackpot was a nail biter as Shawn Suhr's huge lingcod and Art Moralez's giant goat battled to a near dead heat. Captain J.J needed to come down and settle the score, with the final vote went going to Shawn's 12-13 pound ling. Great job Shawn. Captain J.J and his crew did an awesome job as always and the Apollo is looking as spotless as ever. The Apollo will be in Santa Barbara till around mid May before moving down to Fisherman's Landing in San Diego.
