Monday, September 10th, 2012

Hi friends. Just a real dandy of a day for us today. We started it out in the morning with the yellowtail snap and then we followed it up in the afternoon with Monday night footballs. The footballs were all you wanted and we also added a small handful of dorado to our days count. We did all of this in flat calm conditions and the boys are all wore out from the excellent fishing that we had today. Everybody's pumped and I screamed myself hoarse today.

For tomorrow, we're looking for tuna with a little more size as one of our code boats had a nice afternoon on those premium grade offshore yellowfin tuna so we'll be in the area looking around for a few ourselves. The boys enjoyed a twenty-two year old Cabernet sauvigon tonight and I think Robin and Wayne might have shed a tear together while talking about it. I still haven't had any but the dudes looked pretty glossy-eyed so I imagine it was pretty darn good.

Anyhow, the Blue/White gang is having a super duper fantastic time catching fish, drinking cocktails/wine, and eating Chef Shawn's culinary creations. Our weather forecast is looking good for tomorrow so hopefully we can get on a big ole' school of big yellowfin. Wish us luck.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with the Coronado Island reports. Today we went out with 36 passengers 43 Yellowtail. There are two bodies of fish out at the islands. There is a school of 23 to 30 pounders and another school of 11 to 17 pounders. The fish are biting the fly-lined sardines and mackerel. And for those who like fishing iron the surface iron is working too. The San Diego departs daily from Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay. Our private charter had to display some good old fashioned patience today. In a typical 3/4 day trip we can expect to make about 3-5 moves thru ought the day looking for fish. Today however, we did not find what we were looking for until our 9th stop of the day. The rapidly changing conditions coupled with the short windows of biting fish have been driving yours truly crazy the past couple of days. Today's photo will show you why we have been putting ourselves thru such mental anguish. Today's final count for our 31 passengers is 11 yellowtail 20 calico bass 16 barracuda 7 rockfish. Our yellowtail today weighed 20-35 pounds and were biting the fly lined sardines the best.

July 16
    Arrive depart day today.  We did the whole routine, I hung out with my baby for an hour and it was time to set sail again.  We left on another 5 day with my buddy Archie and his gang and a few other regulars.  We did well at the bait receivers.  We loaded up on small sardine and left the bay and headed out to do some fishing in the afternoon.  We didn't do much.  A couple of yellowfin is all we caught.  We did see a couple of big schools of 50-80 pound tuna that didn't care we were there at all.  No bites.  We're eating prime rib and heading down in nice weather.  We're going to try for some yellows on the coast in the morning and then head offshore for the afternoon hunting yellowfin.

 

After spending all day yesterday searching for yellowtail without success. Today we decided to put the feelers out and look at some new areas. After a couple hours of searching we found exactly what we were looking for. The yellowtail we found today were really active for about an hour. In one hour our 15 anglers managed to put 20 very nice size yellowtail on the deck. Our yellowtail today were caught on yo-yo lures, surface lures as well as fly lined sardines. Make sure you bring a bait rod to go with your yo-yo rod from here on out.

We our ending our trip with a scratch day of yellowtail and dorado. Our weather continues to be good and we will hit the dock tomorrow at 7am. Thanks,
