Captian Tucker McCombs checked in this morning with an update from the Endeavor out of Hook's Landing.  The Seabass are still biting a little.  We have some nice fish on the deck today.

Good evening, friends. We departed on an open party 5-day trip today with a healthy load of people and a healthy load of bait. Our weather traveling down is quite nice and we're looking like the weather is going to clean up for the next few days, so we're pumped. As far as the fishing outlook, one boat in the area today did equally phenomenal on bluefin and yellowfin. Straight up.We'll be in the area tomorrow and we'll chat you up tomorrow on our day.

Getting back to yesterday, we'd like to thank Paul Hess and his crew that tagged along with him this year. If I recall, this was Paul's 12th annual trip and we look forward to seeing him, his son, Matt, and the rest of the gang that comes back year after year (thanks for bailing, Boomhower. More bluefin and yellowfin for us.) Anyhow, It's a fantastic trip, one of my favorites every year, and we'll see y'all next year.

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing, has proven to be one of the top boats in the highly competitive 3/4 day fishing scene. With many options, passengers are fickle about which boat they select, and fish counts are at the heart of their decision. With the savvy Ryan Bostian at the helm, anglers are assured, that they will have the best shot at putting fish on the deck. The San Diego operates Coronado Islands trips, offshore trips, local rockfishing trips, and is a perfect boat for anglers looking for an introduction to offshore fishing or the local angler who needs to return the same day. With a fairly modest investment anglers are able to consistently land great gamefish like Yellowtail, Barracuda, Bonito, Bass and and in years like this, Tuna and Dorado. For many passengers it is their first time fishing live bait on a conventional reel, fishing a kelp paddy, or trolling. The crew on the San Diego is second to none in creating successful new anglers. In fact, the crew prides themselves on introducing future multi day fisherman to the sport we all know and love. Ryan Bostian the Owner Operator of the San Diego has excelled through the sport fishing ranks and continues to put out impressive numbers almost everyday. Bostian aka "Booger," the character from the movie "Revenge of the Nerds", (Bostian's favorite movie as a kid), began his career aboard the Dolphin as a Pinhead for Captain John Glawson. Like many of the young Pinheads, Ryan dreamed of one day moving up to a full time deckhand and eventually a Captain. He had no idea how quickly his dream would become a reality. During High School Ryan was able to secure a steady deckhand position on the New Seaforth and worked towards getting his Captains License. After High School he moved over to the Pacific Queen then owned and operated by Ed McEwen. He worked on the Pacific Queen for two years and also acquired his Captains License before leaving sportfishing to go to college. Ryan spent three years at Santa Barbara City and UCSB respectively. He enjoyed the University experience, however, according to Ryan, his skiff, was his favorite class and he often chose to fish while his actual classes were in session! It was obvious to Ryan that his passions were in sportfishing and he decided to return to Southern California. He returned to San Diego and started back as a deckhand on the Mission Belle for Captain David Ikeda. Ryan quickly proved himself, and was soon running the vessel. It was on the Belle, that he truly honed his skills as a Captain and spent three years as a hired skipper. When Ryan was just 23 years old, he had the opportunity to purchase the Mission Belle. He bought the Mission Belle in late 2001 and was the owner operator for 2 very successful years. During his tenure on the Mission Belle, The San Diego, a boat Bostian has often noticed for its great lines, came up for sale at Seaforth landing. He knew that didn't want to let The San Diego get away, so he purchased it as well in 2004. He owned and operated both boats for one year, with the help of Captain Ray "Stinger" Montera, but eventually sold the Mission Belle so he could fully focus on the San Diego. In 2005, Ryan did just that and did a full overhaul of The San Diego. He installed a new RSW system, new John Deere Engines, all new galley, and the coatings were replaced top to bottom. He moved the San Diego to the 5:30 to 5:00 run and has been able to not only keep up the success from the Mission Belle but has even increased his performance on the water. The offshore scene in 3/4 day range is as good as its ever been in recent years. I was able to join the crew of the San Diego on a trip last Thursday 8/15 and had a chance to see the great amount of life that is within 10-30 miles of San DIego. A huge biomass of bait was supporting all forms of life and made for an impressive view of the fantastic fishing San Diego has to offer. Last year was a banner year for the 3/4 day boats and this year seems to be even better with many exotics seriously on the chew. On our trip we landed 16 dorado and 46 yellowtail for the day. Ryan was very optimistic about the overall scene and looks for fishing to keep improving. If you are an angler and want to start your experiences offshore, or are an angler who needs to return the same day, the San Diego is the perfect boat to fish. Do yourself a favor and jump on board The San Diego and experience the best the the local offshore scene has to offer.

Hi friends. Bait-making at 0300 hours this morning went very well us. The bait is on the large side but we're hoping to find some large mouths to feed them to. After only catching a couple of 'tails in the AM, we took to the open ocean and were rewarded with lovely weather that was just what we needed. The seas were still kind of confused but with a light wind, the hunt for kelp paddies and breezers was a pleasurable day aboard the Polaris Supreme.

We jigged up some small yellowfin throughout the day, most of which were released, but we had a couple of standout moments to share. First off, Steven Lowe caught a beautiful wahoo on the troll. Sweet. We also had a kelp paddy that kicked out a bunch of really beautiful mahi-mahi's. It was a little crazy there for a minute. Things almost got out of hand, but you know us, we don't let any fish--especially those silly dorados--get the best of us. After calming the situation down and restoring order, we had a box full of flatheads. Booyah. Our last fish of the kelp was caught by our master of ceremonies, Joe Gigliotti. Joe put down the cards and poker chips for a few moments to land himself a 40 lb. yellowfin. That crazy card shark, he's so savvy! Joe pulled off a veteran move: let all of the other anglers fish off the dorado's and then when we thought the game was over, G-Money played us all for fools and landed himself the token tuna. Nice job, Joe.

So that was how our fishing went today. I can't leave you without letting y'all know about what else went down today: I bronzed. I know, right? After nearly having all of my espresso-brown tan blown off by Hurricane Paul, Momma Nature showed us her love and gave us gorgeous weather and sunshine for the day. Our weather today started out pretty okay but by days end, it was flat calm with just a breath of wind - A+. Just a beautiful day for soaking up the sun and burning fat. That's right. Along with the bronzing, hot dorado action, and awesome weather, I managed to get in a couple hours of getting my swell on. Yeah, I said it. Like I told Gunny today," I wish they made a size large shirt with the sleeves of an extra large." He laughed.

Off topic, once again, I would like to say something. This crew is just dandy. If you don't want to party with us, I don't want to live. We're all about getting stretched, Hunger Games book club meetings (Drew is almost headed for the final book), and living a more healthy lifestyle. We aren't just dieting, we're working on our strength and conditioning too. I'm changing my lifestyle, Mark is changing his lifestyle, and next trip, Drew "Chuck Norris Wears Drew Henderson Pajamas" Henderson is changing his lifestyle. It's fantastic! But not to forget, we're fish-hungry fishing machines as well. What the bow and arrow is to Katniss Everdeen, a rod and reel is exactly the same to us. It's like an extension of our limbs. It's just so natural and pure. So you throw in the fact that we are all some pretty darn good fisherman--even Mark with his swing-for-the-fences style of angling--you've got the ingredients to have yourself just a rollicking good time here on the Supreme. We have fun, we fish, we life a healthier lifestyle, and last but certainly not least, we bronze. Sonny Jim.

For tomorrow, I see no other reason not to workout, bronze, and go catch some 18-22 lb. yellowfin tuna in sunny, windless weather. That's our plan, anyways. If we do well on the yellowfins, we get to do my favorite activity that we do here on the Polaris Supreme: fish for BIG bluefin tuna...and bronze while doing it. See ya.

Hello everyone, The conditions for these Yellowtail are improving. It was a dramatic improvement today, the wind switched back to more westerly and the fish seemed happier with the change. We started our day picking at these Yellows until late morning. We then headed offshore to look for Tuna. Late in the day we found a nice foamer of Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna. We caught a few, both on the surface lures and the live bait with a torpedo sinker rig. We are hoping this tuna gets with it here soon. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme

We traveled all day in excellent weather. We just rigged, rigged, rigged and ate, ate, ate. We are excited to get to where we are going. Check in tomorrow for our report. Thanks, Tommy and crew

Hi friends. Tough day for us here on the high seas. No sugar-coating anything today, it was a slow day. We saw multiple good schools of yellowfin but Tropical Storm John really has things screwed up down here. We only managed a few handfuls of yellowfin in the 12-35 lb. category along with a couple of nice bluefin and a few various bottom dwellers for our final tally. Like I said, no shortage of fish running around but they are just not cooperating all that well.

We're hoping for a banner day tomorrow as the weather is supposed to straighten out and be flat calm and sick hot. I was a hot little potato today even though it was rather windy and choppy. We can only hope tomorrow that it snows or something because it is going to be a scorcher. Bronzing isn't even an appropriate word for what we did today, we got down-rite ethnic with our tans today. My goodness it was hot. Speaking of hot, our team in the galley is hot. Schooler and Shawn, aka "The Dream Team" are just magnificent. Along with the world's greatest deckhand, they really are the heart and soul of this operation and I feel that it is a pleasure to not only be worthy enough to eat their creations but to also know them as people. Thank you, Schooler and Shawn, thank you for making my life so wonderful and all of the passengers too. You're so dandy and thanks for getting us fat.

Anyhow, our fingers are crossed for tomorrow and yours should be too. Pray for snow and lots of tuna. See ya.
