 We missed again this morning folks.  I'm not very happy about it, but I've excepted it.  We've definitely put in our work this trip.  Not necessarily physically these last couple days but mentally for sure.  I am drained.  We didn't want to spend another afternoon like we spent yesterday so we left the grounds and fished the Coronado Islands this afternoon.  We didn't see much yellowtail.  Myself or the other long range boat here.  I heard some good analogies this trip by other captains on the radio that I'd like to share.  Looking at the fish reports is like watching sports center.  They keep showing you all the top tens, but they almost never show the other Joe's, and sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield.  Most guys the last couple days have been the bugs.

 There have been quite a few firsts for me lately.  First of all I've never spent this much time fishing this close to home other than my 3/4 day days..  I have never been anchored up right outside the harbor on the second night of the trip.  We were there catching bait.  I've never captained the boat to San Clemente or the Coronado Islands.  There's probably more.  Oh yeah, I've never seen the 5 freeway from the boat.  Mark thought it was a bird school.  In his defense, I had to give it a double take too.

 So that's it.  We're going home and we'll be leaving for 5 tomorrow.  Tommy is coming back out so he'll be deciding where to go.  I'll tell you though, it's tough to pass on this fish.  Unfortunately for us, it's the best grade of tuna around.  It's great for the 1/2 day boats though.
       

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're on the 1st day of a 3.5 day trip sponsored by Okuma, Soft Steel & Seeker. So far the fishing has been very good. We have 36 Bluefin for the morning, some Rockfish to go with it even token Cow Cod.

 The pressure is off.  We never made it down to any Island today like we planned.  At about 9 am or so the sonar went clunk, clunk and we went sideways for an hour.  It wasn't the best grade but it definitely wasn't the worst.  It was this years middle grade. 8-14 pounds with a sprinkling of 16-22 pounders in the mix.  Like I said, not the best but not the 2-6 pounders either.  But for a stressed out 4 day captain, it was lovely.  They bit good for about an hour and then they backed off.  After that we dedicated ourselves to that zone.  We figured that school of 14-25 pounders was just right over there.  It wasn't.  We didn't see another school of tuna.  However, we did find a nice kelp loaded up with big yellowtail.  They bit really well for a while too.  In fact , they were on the corner like tuna get on the corner for a good 20 minutes and when they backed off the corner, they still bit good for a while.  Other then that though we didn't see much other then the occasional small tuna on the trolling jigs but we're stoked for what we got today.  The pressure is off.

 We're going to stick with the plan and spend tomorrow at an Island hopefully drifting for hours.  The weather has finally backed off after a couple weeks of blowing.  Hopefully we get some descent weather for a nice long stretch and can get back to fishing where we please when we please.
     

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-15-2016 Today was pretty much just a travel day we rolled up the line in Socko fog this morning and spent the afternoon catching a little bit of table fare in the form of reds and lingcod. Our weather has been great until this afternoon and just in time for dinner we have bumpy jerky weather! Tomorrow morning we will be into the dock unloading a nice catch of yellowtail and some fine halibut! In completing another 5 day Heil charter. We would like to thank Ron for carrying on the tradition his dad started some 35+ years ago. And also thank all of you anglers for joining us and hanging in there on what was a long run to get into some good fishing! Today we will be taking out the let's talk hookup four-day charter! We unfortunately won't be able to make the long run we did this trip. We're going to have to get creative locally! Also on another side note cub you keep asking me about Wahoo fishing and no don't bring your gear for Wahoo water is getting cold everywhere. You need to go on a 7 to 10 day trip and of in the fall. Today we had about 7-10 wahoo and several tuna. Four nice ones around 170 lbs., and some smaller ones (many released) 50-60 lbs. We lost 4 nice ones, 2 thought to be over 200 lbs. The guys are pretty tired putting in 36 hours of fishing time. Most only had 3-4 hours of sleep.

Limits of dorado 62 yellowtail. One kelp can make or break your day.

The Scripps Ranch Old Pros offshore charter enjoyed plenty of cold beers and beautiful weather. We were able to land 16 yellowtail and 28 bonito.

Ryan Bostian called in with this report from the Coronado Islands, "Today we went out with 17 Anglers and we are coming back to the dock with 44 Yellowtail. These Yellowtail are nice sized fish, 15 to 30 pounders."

They are biting the fly lined the baits today. You want to bring down your fly lined gear, your yoyo gear all your Yellowtail gear including surface irons.
