Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-24-2016 As reported yesterday it was a very tough day fishing. We spent the whole day stopping on spot after spot after spot. It got to a point where I thought maybe the passengers didn't think we were really seen fish. One of the things we noticed was where the yellowfin tuna was hanging out, even though it didn't bite It Turns out it was good Intel for today. It did pay off this morning, we ended up shutting down right at daylight on a really nice school that stuck with this until after lunchtime. The grade of fish was 35 to 80 pounds. We hung with it for about another two hours and it just wouldn't bite. After about three hours of searching we finally found where the fish had moved to while we were drifting all morning. We were rewarded with another afternoon bite equal to what we caught in the morning we ended up with a fantastic day of quality, I say quality yellowfin tuna. We also had in the mix by half a dozen nice grade bluefin tuna. We are heading in and going to drop off our Joe Beck charter and pick up Beverly and her group. Good afternoon everyone, We just cleared the point and are headed south on our annual Costello 6 day trip. We have high hopes for the next 6 days. We are really looking forward to having 6 days to be able to spread out and cover some area. We have many options and all of em sound promising! However right now we are kicking back enjoying the afternoon and looking forward to chef mikes delicious prime rib!

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-15-2013

 

 

The majestic blood-red sunset that we experienced at the end of our day today was simply magnificent. I'm not exaggerating. Allow me to set the stage. We've been struggling to find the fish that we've been looking for in sufficient quantities over the past few days, but we found EXACTLY what the doctor had ordered earlier in the afternoon. One of the crew perched in the crow's nest spotted some bird activity around a floating object in the distance. We trolled past the inflated "gas bag", and soon the entire boat erupted in mayhem. Virtually every bait to hit the water was quickly inhaled by the voracious dorado residing near the flotsam. Once we put the hurt on those good-size flatheads, the wahoo started to bite. We did well. Real well. Anyway, back to the sunset. Visualize a full moon rising in the east, casting glimmering silhouettes on the slight chop, as the sun is setting in the west, lighting up the entire field of vision with a crimson glow. It was simply magnificent. We fished until darkness interrupted us.

"Red sky at night ..." . so of course we're looking forward to another beautiful day out here tomorrow, weather-wise. The fishing is merely icing on the cake. Speaking of cake ... dinner tonight is a braised German chicken dish. Gotta go, I'm hungry!

Today we are making turns to the island. We are looking like a late afternoon arrival. Bent rods and big fish are on everyone's mind.

Nov. 8

                Long range fishing.  We're back.  We departed today on a wonderful 10 day trip.  An ultra limited load 10 day trip.  A fisherman's dream.  We got some bait.  We loaded up on half 6-8 inch beauts, and then half 4-6 inchers that will chum well and fish well enough.  The weather right now couldn't be better.  We're just rolling down hill enjoying life.  We got some rest and did part 1 of our 3 part seminars.  We did that today because we're fishing tomorrow morning.  It's been pretty darn good school grade tuna fishing where we'll be in the morning lately, and we're going to try and get a starter kit tomorrow.  We're just hoping the fore casted wind will hold up long enough for that.  Yup, the wind is coming and it doesn't look like it's going to be very nice for the next few days.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  We'll be doing some traveling through it on a downhill course but it's going to end up effecting some of our early fishing conditions for sure.  But then it goes away and becomes lovely again for hopefully the rest of the trip.  I'm looking forward to writing to you folks out there the next 10 days.  I hope I have nothing but good things to write.  Time will tell.

                                                                                               

Ryan Bostian called in with this report from the Coronado Islands, "Today we went out with 17 Anglers and we are coming back to the dock with 44 Yellowtail. These Yellowtail are nice sized fish, 15 to 30 pounders."

They are biting the fly lined the baits today. You want to bring down your fly lined gear, your yoyo gear all your Yellowtail gear including surface irons.

Today our 24 anglers landed 7 bluefin tuna from 70-85 pounds. First time anglers, seasoned anglers, captains, crewmen and all the way up to our office personnel. Nobody is off limits when it comes to the frustration and lack of sleep that a bluefin can create. However, if you stick with it, come prepared and keep an open mind. You will eventually be rewarded with a fish of a lifetime.
