Good evening folks. We departed today on the long running Heil 5 day charter with a bunch of familiar faces and a handfull of welcomed new ones. Our first stop was the bait recievers and boy oh boy did we get a good load of bait. Best one of the year thus far. Healthy, slimy and lively. It all starts there. It was a normal departure day of lunch, naps and fishing seminars. With mixed reports from slow to ok in the bluefin zone, we're going to start off looking in the area we finished up looking in yesterday. We'll see what we come up with and take it from there. Wish us luck.

Our hunt for mahi mahi was rudely interrupted by big schools of 10-30 lb yellowfin tuna. 107 yellowfin, 23 skipjack. 20-30 lb and size 2 hook was the hot setup. Few fish on colt snipers as well !

                                             Clint Cambell started our morning hooking and landing a 70 pound yellowfin tuna on a PL 68, a few other tuna were hooked and lost due to the arrival of the tax man but don't worry that only put a very small dent into our morning plan, we went into search mode but this time we had plan B going for us, yummy flyers on the troll and we started to put a few nice grade tuna aboard with Paul Hess putting a 115 pounder on deck! We ended up scratching up a nice day of tuna and wahoo.

Polaris Supreme Trip update 11-25-2019 We woke up this morning to a beautiful calm day and a gorgeous sunrise! It looks pretty similar to the sunset we had yesterday. We had some good fishing on small grade yellowtail and a few more tuna for the boys. The Wahoo were definitely absent yesterday and today. Tomorrow that is going to be our main target species. We most likely will be coming in a day early on this trip sometime Friday or Thursday late. We've been watching that storm coming in over Thanksgiving Thursday and then continuing through Friday and we want to avoid getting caught in the middle of it. You can do these kind of things when you have a private charter! Right now the forecast for departing on Saturday looks like excellent weather as far as we can see on the forecast through the fourth of December. Thanks for tuning in! The Polaris Supreme Crew!

Capt Ryan called in from the San Diego a 3/4 day, we are still fishing offshore and the fishing hass been great. We depart at 5:30am and we have been averaging from 50 to 140 Yellowfin Tuna per trip, our slowest day this week was 46 Yellowfin and today we had 69 Yellowfin and 150 Skipjack. Yesterday we had 136 Yellowfin, we will continue everyday as long as the fishing stays good. There is plenty of warm water around and it looks like it will be here for a while, so we will continue offshore for a while. There is plenty of good fishing when you find the right kelp, trips run $145 per angler and we depart everyday at 5:30am. Come on down and get in on the action.

First things first !! I think a hearty Sportfishingreport.com congratulations are in order for J.J Gerritsen and the crew of the Apollo for their clean #1 sweep in annual SFR fishcount standings for 2006. Yellowfin Tuna # 1!!!!!!!!!!!, Albacore Tuna # 1!!!!!!!, Dorado #1 !!!! Very impressive numbers indeed !!!! Way to go guys, awesome year !!!!So when good friend and Santa Barbara local Doug Browand called and said a bunch of local firefighters and friends had chartered the #1 boat in the land for a little Island Freelance trip, I was packing my gear and clearing my schedule in a hurry. We loaded up on time and headed out of Sea Landing in Santa Barbara straight to Santa Rosa Island in case the squid and WSB wanted to show. J.J promised us some outrageous rockfish and lingcod action if the seabass were still MIA. We gave it a solid effort but with no signs of squid or WSB we motored up and headed out to some of Captain J.J's secret rocks and reefs. The first drift of the day produced monster reds and chuckles that rival some of the nicest and biggest rockfish I've seen and caught in many years. The Channel Islands Rockfishing is on Fire !!!!!! Throw a bunch of nice legal lings into the mix and you're talking a really fine day of fishing and a great time for all. The fishing at the Islands is only going to get better and J.J and the boys on the Apollo will be there fishing for them everyday. We had a nice afternoon hooking fish landing was okay lot of tackle failures
and losses to the sharks! But we still managed to put a nice afternoon
together. It's absolutely a beautiful grade of fish! Most of the anglers
hooked for five of these fish! We are having to fish the 30 and 40 lb. test
to get a bite here. Not ideal for getting the larger Tuna away from the
sharks. Hopefully they bite heaver line tomorrow!
 

July 6

Today went as planned. We did about what we thought we'd do. Scratched at yellowfin most of the day. Our best stop was for 7, then 6, we had a handfull of 4's and the rest were 3's 2's and 1's. That's exactly how the tuna fishing has been on a good day for the last few weeks so we had a good day.

The weather did what it was supposed to do. It was beautiful in the morning and got breezy in the afternoon. It looks like the wind backed off when it got dark. Hopefully it stays that way. We're heading down to Cedros Island now and we'll be there at day break.
