Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-17-2016 We got out today bright and early without a hitch and are rolling down south for eight days of we hope will be spectacular sportfishing! The group today is an open group of "The Usual Suspects" that takes this annual voyage south with us each year. Our bait looks just okay so far? Our weather is fantastic. We have gotten a full day in of eating, sleeping and rigging.Tune in here tomorrow and we will have an update on our travel down day. The Polaris supreme crew P.S. We have just put a 1 1/2 day trip online for next weekend. It will be leaving Sunday night at 6 PM and returning Tuesday morning at 6 AM. Hi friends. Well, we finally did it, we fished the tuna pens today. At first, we thought it was pretty cool; roll on in, find a school, and catch some. Well, after our initial whack for 17 bluefin, that was about it. The rest of our pen fishing was kind of lame as we never found another biting school. I can see what a real zoo this would be with fifty plus sportboats and skiffs out here. Anyhow, we're rolling on down to hunt for some yellowfin, bluefin, yellowtail, and dorado. Our weather is pleasant and we'll check in tomorrow.

This week had both the best and worst that the Coronado islands have to offer. The highlight of the week was on Tuesday as 20 anglers caught 54 yellowtail. Wednesday saw 65 anglers capture 31 yellowtail. Thursday thru Sunday is when the weather started to turn and as a result the fishing. The past couple of trips we have seen a few schools but they have not been biting at all. Starting this Thursday (18th) the weather is forecasted to get nicer and we have our fingers crossed that the yellows will start to bite again.

Polaris Supreme docked at Fisherman's Landing July 24 following a five-day, 24-passenger charter with owner-skipper Tommy Rothery, who was credited by other skippers with finding a new area of albacore to the west of the previous location. Brad Donnelly of San Clemente won first place on the Tuna Trackers trip, for a 52-pound yellowfin. He said he took it with a sardine on a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook and 40-pound Soft Steel line. He used a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 6465 H rod. Mike O'Donnell of Palmdale was second, for a 45-pound albacore. Jason Severen of Petaluma tied with Tom Donnelly of San Clemente for third place. Each had a 42-pound albacore.

July 21
  Well, we started off in the hot yellowtail zone this morning.  Us and 4 of the other long range boats.  I'm not at all going to call it a bust, it just wasn't what we were hoping/expecting.  Things were a little on the slow side.  It perked up for a little while but it was short lived.  It wasn't bad.  I mean we caught almost 50 yellows there before lunch.  And they were nice ones too, let me tell you.  26 pound average is my guess without weighing a single one.  Maybe 28, OK.  But by lunch it was done, done, done.  So we got mobile.  It wasn't for a few hours before we found something worthy to shut down on.  We found a kelp and caught another 25 beautiful tails.  I mean beauts.

  

 

So we can't complain.  75 gorgeous  yellowtail today to go with flat calm, sunny weather.  I can think of many, many days out here where I would have paid plenty for a day like we had today.  We're making that move while we still can.  We'll be getting our Island on tomorrow.  Hopefully we can put some more quality yellows on board and fish our last couple days up there in tuna land.

  Getting to know your crew:  Mark didn't inherit his eating habits from his dad.  Nope.  Mr. Clark himself is out here in the flesh and I've bussed his plate twice now and I haven't seen a finished plate by a long shot.  Mark would never.  Especially now with him being hungry all day and all with the diet.  Oh, and I guess I have tendonitis in my Supinator muscle which is awesome  Stoked.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in today after 2 PM with an update from the San Diego. Today is my day off and Cameron is running the boat. We are up to 80 Yellowtail. We are having light loads even though the fishing has been great. Most of the fish medium grade with fish up to 25 pounds too!

Hello everyone, Today we fished in yellowtail country. Fishing was good, we managed to piece together a nice day on these quality yellowtail. All very good size fish ranging from 15-28 lbs, with the dropper loop and yo yo iron being the hot ticket. We were able to scratch at yellowtail for most of the day until we had to start making our way to San Diego. Will report again tomorrow, Team Supreme
