Yesterday was an absolutely fantastic day. We had great yellowtail fishing on 30-40 lb grade with the big ones pushing 45 lbs.

In the afternoon we came across a big school of smaller grade yellowfin and released most of them. Weather is still flat clam and gorgeous. We also got a handful of Dorado and saw a swordfish. Chef Tommy put out a great lunch of Alaskan King crab and lobster, and for dinner we were served a slow roasted pork loin with roasted macadamia plum sauce.

Very delicious. This morning we are on our way to fish big tuna, and our weather is still fantastic. Thanks for tuning in.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with some photos. We have caught four Bluefin Tuna (115, 108, 103 and 101). You need to make sure you bring the correct gear. CURRENT TACKLE RECOMMENDATION
A Shimano Talica 12 or 16 two speed filled with 65 or 80 lb spectra. Connected to 5 feet of 80 or 130 lb flouro and a 250 gram flatfall. A sinker bait rig fished with a Talica 16 or 20 two speed filled halfway with 80 lb spectra than topped off with 60 or 80 lb mono to a short leader of 80 lb flouro. A 2/0 or 3/0 circle hook and a 4-6 oz torpedo sinker.

If you have ever wanted to catch a yellowtail you should go fishing now. 52 pass. 246 yellowtail on flylined bait, small yo-yo jigs and surface iron.

Today we went out with 16 anglers. Fish count for the day was 1 yellowtail 50 red rockcod 80 rockfish and 1 lingcod.

fishing down south is on fire right now. Lots of 20-40 lb tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Yellowtail, and even big Grouper! 

Here is a monster 122 lb Gulf Grouper caught on the last 8 day! It ate a whole skipjack tuna for bait! 

There are only a few more spots open on the remaining 7 and 8 day trips. Jump on while they are biting!

With great anticipation of a light load aboard the Apollo, all 14 of us anglers showed up at the dock early, swapping stories about past trips. We started boarding about 9:30pm and were greeted by Capt JJ Gerritsen and the rest of his crew, we signed in and had a seat for our safety briefing. Capt JJ then asked if we wanted to head offshore for Albacore which had dramatically slowed down the last couple days or head south along the coast for a shot at Dorado and Yellowfin and Yellowtail patty hopping. Without much hesitation we decided to head south and patty hop. We got the feathers in at gray light and started the troll, within 15 minutes the yell of "Hook-up" sang out, unfortunately the mystery fish got away and we were under way again. Five minutes later we heard that yell again, the mystery fish won round two and will live another day. Third time's a charm didn't hold true for us, our third hook-up is still out there in the deep blue. At that point the first troll rotation was fired (which included me) and the second shift took over. Within 10 minutes they had our first fish on the deck, a skipjack, from that point on while looking for patties we boated about 19 skipjack. We found our first patty around 10am and moved in with hopes of a wide open bite, but to our dismay there was nobody home. That held true for the next 8 patties we found, then finally around noon with a mouth full of burger, we heard the call to get ready. Never fails every time your food is done, it's time to drop a line. As soon as our sardines hit the water the patty expolded, we ended up with 1 Dorado and 2 Yellowtail. We only found two two more patties holding fish and ended up with 1 more Dorado and 4 yellowtail. It was now time to head back to port and we again set out the troll lines and managed to pick up 7 Yellowfin Tuna on the way back in. The Pacifica out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, CA wrapped up a 2 day trip with 24 anglers.
