south dakota Fishing Report 2024

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing, today we ran offshore to search for some Bluefin. Yesterday we went offshore and got skunked, we made the decision to try again today and we are glad we did, we ended with 22 Bluefin for our 22 anglers. That doe not sound like great numbers but the quality more than makes up for it, they are running from 45 to 75 lbs. We are getting most of these fish on the surface iron so make sure you bring several set ups to maximize your chances. The crew makes all the difference in your success and our crew is on of the best in making sure if you hook up you will have a good chance at landing them. We probably had 45 bites mostly on surface irons and we did get a few on bait. We don not know how the bite will last, so hurry up and get down here and get in on this early season action.

Yesterday was an absolutely fantastic day. We had great yellowtail fishing on 30-40 lb grade with the big ones pushing 45 lbs.

In the afternoon we came across a big school of smaller grade yellowfin and released most of them. Weather is still flat clam and gorgeous. We also got a handful of Dorado and saw a swordfish. Chef Tommy put out a great lunch of Alaskan King crab and lobster, and for dinner we were served a slow roasted pork loin with roasted macadamia plum sauce.

Very delicious. This morning we are on our way to fish big tuna, and our weather is still fantastic. Thanks for tuning in.

Good morning Everyone, Our annual Heil charter has come, the longest running charter on Polaris Supreme. We are very happy top welcome aboard this group of anglers. Ron Heil has been keeping his father's charter going for years with a good core group of anglers. We are exited to have these guys aboard as well as some new faces. Spirits are high, and we're all very hopeful for the next 5 days. Team Supreme

No yellowtail for us today, even though we did stop on a few schools. Canceled for tomorrow due to lack of reservations.

Hello there Polaris Supreme fans,

 

Today started off with a bang! around daybreak a 110 pounder comes over the rail! and a few other smaller grade tuna were landed, then out of nowhere we loose our current but that didn't  stop us, We put out the jigs and went into search mode and found what we were looking for WAHOO!!, willing to bite and keep us busy most of the morning and into the late afternoon, with still no current and the wahoo backing off somewhat, back into search mode again we started seeing bird schools in a a different area that looked very promising, we took a tour of the new area and saw plenty of life! In this new area even the bait wanted to bite, so after filling two tanks of big bait we settled in for the night with high hopes for the early morning bite!

Hi friends. I just want to start off by saying that Travis Donahue our new best friend. That guy gets on the boat and the Bluefin just are drawn to this guy. He's been on the boat three times this year already and every time he's out, the Bluefin bite. It's truly amazing. This trip was no exception as he tagged along with Garth and the boys from Optima and we had ourselves a good day on 15-30 lb. Bluefin. The other boats in the area struggled but we filled the box a few times on a couple of stops and we also managed to catch three thirty pound Yellowfin off of a kelp along with some Yellowtail. Like I said, it wasn't for everyone out here but thankfully, we had Travis on the boat and everything was just fine for us on the Supreme. We also had awesome weather to round out a fun day of fishing and we're currently en route back to San Diego. We'll be back to the docks tomorrow morning around 0900 hours. Hi friends. I bronzed today...again. I'm practically glowing, it's madness! I look like Oprah. Everyday of this trip has been stellar weather, and I've been bronzin' ever since the bait receivers, and I can only hope that we're not going to pay for it in a couple of days when we start making our way back to San Diego. We'll see. Anyhow, the fishing today was fair. It wasn't bad, it's just that we had high hopes for wahoo and they're still eluding us to this point. Matt Herrington, Paul Briscoe, Eric Kinnicutt, and Polaris Supreme first-timer Dean Harthorn were the lucky anglers to land a "hooter" today. Dean set the standard of size to this point. Dean probably runs about five feet tall (I mean no disrespect. Dean is one of the nicest dudes around) but the wahoo he caught today dwarfs him. Wait until you guys see the photos on the website when we get in. It's a great picture and Dean was pumped. Good things happen to good people.

Our day also saw lots of releasing yellowfin tuna, tagging a couple of nice yellowtail, and Glenn Briscoe landed a true bull dorado in the thirty plus pound category. G-Man, you're truly the man, G. After landing Glenn's fish, we made the decision to make a run to the inside to see if we can't locate some wahoo elsewhere. We'll check back with you tomorrow.

Oh yeah! Before I forget, Chef Schooler and Jamie are my heroes. For dinner, they prepared a perfectly cooked tri-tip (my favorite), pepper-roasted potatoes, and corn on the cob. On any normal night, I'd be pumped but then they finished it off with a warm brownie, vanilla ice cream, caramel syrup, and pralines. Now I'm super pumped. Between my bronze and my level of pump, I look like a plump Arnold Schwarzenegger. Life is good. See ya.
