newcastle Fishing Report 2024

The Scripps Ranch Old Pros offshore charter enjoyed plenty of cold beers and beautiful weather. We were able to land 16 yellowtail and 28 bonito.

Polaris supreme Trip date 08-01-2019 We got a nice early start today on Tom Chaparro's annual Windham / Wells Memorial eight day chart.This is a special limited to 18 anglers trip dedicated to the discriminating angler who likes comfort without a crowd! Our bait supply looks good and the weather traveling down was good all afternoon. Although it might be a little bumpy going the other way up swell back towards home.We have a lot of familiar faces on board and are looking forward to a fun trip with the boys. Wish us luck!  Well today didn't go like we were hoping.  We didn't catch anything on the anchor in the morning like we did yesterday morning.  So we thought at least we could get our 3 wahooless passengers a skin but that didn't happen.  There were quite a few boats trying.  We already caught a bunch of tuna the last couple days, so we stuck with the plan and got out of there way and left to go fish yellows.  That was a bust.  There were three of us looking around and none of us caught much.  Just a few handfuls of yellows was all.  So we decided to take off after lunch and we put it on course for Alijos Rocks.  We'll be there tomorrow morning and our plan is to catch some more wahoo.  We'll give it at least a full day there and maybe even another halfer.  Hopefully we have the place to ourselves there tomorrow.  We did get one really nice hoo during our travels this afternoon.  It was about 65 pounds.  A trip maker for the young Darrel.  You'll see it later on the website when we put it up.  Take care now.

 I can't think of a cool way to start this report so I'm just going to say what I feel.  This morning was making me a little nervous.  I thought that our timing was going to be off this trip.  I knew the fish weren't even close to being done for the year but for a couple of days I thought perhaps.  I was wrong.
 This morning we got our fish on.  We were catching plenty.  We started with a couple quicky stops and then had one good one.  The only deal was the fish were on the small side of things.  12 pounders, few smaller, couple bigger.  We were fishing them because at the time, we don't know that we'll find the better grade.  What if we drive away and we never find the bigger ones or another one period?  Anyways, it dried up and we went looking again.  We all got stuffed from lunch and right when we were feeling that it's either nap time or get a pot of coffee brewing we found what we were looking for and we drifted until the day was done.
 It was as good as we ever need fishing to be.  "One stop shop" if you will.  Bent rods all day and constant fish in the pit.  The pit is where the fish is dragged back to get spiked, bled, and tagged before going down into refrigeration until the end of the trip.  It's the busiest place on the boat during a good bite.  We even had a passenger in the pit today helping out when he thought he had his limit.  When I told him we were in American waters and California fish limit regulations apply he was back at the rail catching yellowfin.  We had a good day.
 The weather for the trip is so far so good.  We're going to make a move tonight and look for that bluefin we were catching last trip.

Had to cover some water, but mid morning the ocean came alive with feeding Bluefin everywhere. We caught 5 and a nice yellowtail. 

Hello everyone, Today was spent traveling up. A great ride to end a great trip filled with a variety of fish. We would like to thank Billy Stephens for putting together such a great charter!   We had a very very good day today.  Stoked.  We got in the water we were looking for around nine this morning and it wasn't an hour before we found our first school.  We plunked away for a couple hours and when things slowed down, we got the call from our buddy Brian on the American Angler who was drifting a mile or so upswell of us and he was on the boomer school so we went over and gave him a hand.  About an hour later another boat showed up and we took a break.  I sent everyone in for lunch while myself and the crew got the deck under control and fired up another fish hold.  After lunch we went on the hunt again and found another deal, and then another but by that time most of the anglers were now spectators.  An hour before dark we found another good school and we may have had 5 or 6 people fishing all with a bent rod.  That's what we call a very very good day.

  We're off to Cedros Island.  We'll be there prior to daylight and we hope for some good yellowtail action for the next couple of days.
           

Capt Ryan Bostain checked in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out of Seaforth Landing to report that the Yellowtail are starting to bite down at the Coronados. Yesterday we had 96 Yellowtail and today we 114 Yellowtail for 30 anglers, come on down the are biting everything. We are getting them on surface iron, yoyo jigs, dropper loops and fly lining baits, the water is very nice and clean. When you come down make sure to bring your passport as it is required.
