Our first day of Larry Brown's fathers day 5 day trip was spent offshore hunting the elusive albacore and blue fin tuna. We came up short. Although we were in good water most of the day, we did not find any tuna at all. Much travel needed to be done today to put us in position for our day tomorrow. Weather is good.

This past weekend we went out with 33 anglers on both of our trips. Saturdays fishing was a little bit better as far as quality is concerned. On both trips we ended up with limits of rockfish but Saturday we caught 80+ red rockcod to go along with 3 lingcod and plenty of chilies and Boccaccio. Sunday we had a bit of a wind swell come up making the drift rather fast. Sundays count was 63 reds 2 lings and limits of rockfish. The weather forecast looks good for this week.

Today we scratched away at a nice grade of yellowtail. Our weather is calm and we had a fun day of island fishing. Thanks for checking in.

 So here's what went down today aboard the Polaris Supreme.  We slept in this morning.  Breakfast wasn't until 9ish.  As far as the crew goes Tommy made us a whole long sheet of a work list that kept us busy most of the day.  After breakfast we did our wahoo seminar which we were all delighted to have deckhand Mark present it to us.  Fantastic.  After that JC had a gift for us all.  A brand new pair of electric sunglasses which for me could not have come at a better time.  I was in dire straights for shades so THANK YOU JC!!!  After was the movie of the day which was Wolf Street and in between was lunch and then some rigging of tackle by some of the passengers.  Nap time was next and then cocktail hour and now we're doing dinner.  Cornish game hens tonight.  Last night was prime rib.  And after is bed time because we have another tough day to look forward to tomorrow.
       
 

So far this year we have had absolutely phenomenal yellowtail fishing as well as a better chance than ever, in the history of Southern California to catch a bluefin over 200lbs! We are excited to announce we have multiple openings on trips that will be targeting these big grade of yellowtail, nice yellowfin and trophy size bluefin! Polaris Supreme returned to Fisherman's landing June 4 after her first three-day trip of the new season, with 24 anglers aboard. Yellowtail were plentiful and many were released. Some bluefin tuna of up to nearly 33 pounds were also caught. Owner-skipper Tommy Rothery reported pleasant sea conditions and nice weather.

"We were way down there,below where everybody else is fishing," said Tommy. "It was a little rolly at mid-day. I don't know why."

Rick Yokley of San Diego won first place for a 32.4-pound bluefin.

"He took me around the boat three times," commented Rick. He said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, with 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and 65-pound Spectra backing on an Avet MXL 6/4 reel.

John Brown of El Cajon was second, for a 32.2-pound bluefin, and Paul Cheak of Benecia won third place for a 31.4-pound bluefin tuna.

Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're out here on another 1 Day trip. So far good tuna fishing here this morning. We have 10 Yellowfin tuna to 40 lbs.+, 11 Bluefin. They are all a nice grade fish. Plus we have some Yellowtail & Dorado to go with it for our morning. It looks like those fish from the lower zone are trickling up here.

Supreme Update

There has been excellent bluefin fishing at 120 to 150 miles the last few days! In response the POLARIS SUPREME is putting the follow two day trips on line to specifically target these fish in this area as well as the yellowtail on the kelp patties in that zone.
