yankee fleet Fishing Report 2025

Today we spent the day trying for Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna. It was a grind but we were able to catch some Yellowtail, great grade Tuna, and some Wahoo. Not the red hot bite that we were hoping for but still a good time none the less. We also had to make bait tonight. It went great. Lots of mackerel came aboard and we have plenty to fish with. We will try it again tomorrow for the hoos and Tuna. Pictured here is Mick with a large Yellowtail and crewmen Jake (the Snake) and Morgan doing some shaking in the wee hours of the morning.

                These darn bluefin let me tell ya.  This morning looked so juicy.  We drifted for hours on 3 different schools and caught 9.  Hours.  And it's not like they weren't hanging around.  I mean the boat was jugged underneath.  They were under us like shishkabob.  9 fish.  We lost our fair share but 9 fish?  With what we saw?

 

                Mid day wasn't that awesome.  We saw some but it didn't impress me.  We messed around with some small yellows while we waited for things to straighten out.  At 4 things did.  Not right away.  We saw the school and it took a while to get things going but eventually it did.  We drifted for 2 straight hours catching fish.  Not wide open.  But fairly steady. 1-6 going.  Action.  Nice ones.  After that drift we did it again.  Again it took a while to get things going but again, it did.  We drifted until dark on that one.  About an hour.  Same deal.  Maybe a little less. 1-4 going.  So it was an afternoon thing today.  I'm sure glad we hung around for it.

 

                So we head in now.  We're departing tomorrow on a 5 day.  What are we going to do?

                                                                                               

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an announcement. We have finished our boat work and will be running our first trip on Saturday, February 3rd. We will be fishing the Coronado Islands. However, we will be looking around and will be targeting the best opportunities. During the beginning of the fishing season it is very important to make an advanced reservation. Polaris Supreme docked at Fisherman's Landing July 24 following a five-day, 24-passenger charter with owner-skipper Tommy Rothery, who was credited by other skippers with finding a new area of albacore to the west of the previous location. Brad Donnelly of San Clemente won first place on the Tuna Trackers trip, for a 52-pound yellowfin. He said he took it with a sardine on a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook and 40-pound Soft Steel line. He used a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 6465 H rod. Mike O'Donnell of Palmdale was second, for a 45-pound albacore. Jason Severen of Petaluma tied with Tom Donnelly of San Clemente for third place. Each had a 42-pound albacore.

Hey sports fans the voyager is running a 1 day mexico coast trip fishing pescadaro, salsipuedes, mezqiute and surrounding areas! It has been fun bass fishing this year so far down there!! Hi friends. We dropped off Eric Rogger and friends to a dock full of curious bystanders and passengers ready to depart on various trips on other boats and the Ron Heil group looked on as well, ready to load the boat and get underway. Why wouldn't they? With the catch we unloaded, you'd have to be a fool not to go fishing right now. A fool, I say. Anyways, we completed all of our turnaround chores, loaded groceries, loaded passengers, and bid the docks farewell. Our bait loading was about as much fun as trying to hit a nail on the head but instead hitting your finger. Our bait looks okay for now but we're closely monitoring the situation. Nothing anybody can do about it. From the guys on the bait boat busting their butt to get bait to all the boats that demand, the guys on the bait receivers, or us, it is what it is.

Anyhow, Chef Shawn kicked out the prime rib, artichoke, and baked potatoes to the peeps and everyone is hitting the rack for tomorrow's wake-up call. We'll be gettin' nasty with it at 0545 hours. Real nasty. Wish us luck.
