Polaris Supreme Trip Report 10-24-2019 We had another log jam today on the kelp patties. Another great day of fishing Wahoo and what a beautiful grade of fish! Some real beauties in their. They look more like alligators than Wahoo. They definitely act like alligators when you hook one. We also had a good hit on the yellowfin tuna again this afternoon. The grade of fish was more like 20 to 45 it wasn't all 45 pounders. But still a good grade of fish! Were finished up in the lower zone here and need to start working north. Stayed late today so we will probably only have a few hours of fishing tomorrow if any looking for some yellowtail up the coast. Weather is still epic. We also spent about a half hour today catching and releasing beautiful grade Dorado. We didn't keep any! Will check in with you tomorrow on our way home after a short try for yellowtail.  We hit the yellowtail grounds today. Not until 9:30. I started looking at 0400 but we weren't there until 9:30. "There" is where we had some good tailing. There's not a whole lot to write about it. We were there, and they were hitting. Most everyone was dropping jigs down and winding them back fast to achieve there tails. Before lunch I was considering fishing yellowtails tomorrow morning before traveling all day to put us in position for tuna the following day, but when I went in to eat lunch, there were 10 fish in the box. The crew dropped them, when I came back out there were 3 in the box and everyone was leaning against the rail not fishing except 3 passengers and 1 of those had 1 hanging. I got the hint. They caught enough yellowtail and they want tuna now. So we'll be traveling all day tomorrow to put ourselves in position to fish bluefin the following day weather pending.

 The weather today was windy, but the further north we get now the less wind there is. It's a nice ride now.

Good evening folks.  We started this morning off with our efforts toward making some bait but just couldn't get it to bite so we switched gears and got into fishing mode. The guys put 7 yellowfin on the deck then it was wahoo time.  For our efforts, we were rewarded with 20 nice skin for the day. No complaints about that.  We even managed to land a few more tuna in the middle of of trolling around. When the hoo decided to move on, it was right back to tuna fishing for the rest of the afternoon. All in all, the guys put together a 30 fish day, not bad at all.

                Chef Mike and Gringo in the galley still continue to please with todays lunch being a homemade crab bisque along side a stuffed portabello mushroom and ending the day with Mikes famous Polaris Supreme style cashew crusted fresh wahoo, rice pilaf and snow peas the could have been served in any fine dining restraunt. Everyone is geared up for tomorrow and ready to go. So we'll check back in tomorrow night.

Good evening. Another good day for us here on the bountiful Pacific. It started with crewmember Mark singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" in his tone-def, SoCal-hillbilly kind of a way that only Mark can get away with and it didn't stop all day. From the crack of dawn (0530 hours), all the way until after dinner when he began belting out a lovely rendition of Shaggy's "Mr. Boombastic" while bumping SiriusXM 90's on channel 9 at full volume in the wheelhouse. Good times. Anyhow, daily limits of 12-35 lb. yellowfin tuna, fifty-four "boombastic" bluefin tuna, and a handful of dorado to top off a stellar day. We'll be here for one more day looking to finish up our trip with a banger. Damn good fishing and fantastic weather. Whammy.

With that being said, here are a few statistics that I unofficially kept track of throughout our day.

Number of times Patrick accidentally soaked my body from head to toe with the deck hose: once.

How many months that Bill Byler wrongly blamed Dick Emerson for writing profanities on his brand new jigs with a yellow paint pen: eleven. It was Mark and I's doing. We're naughty.

Number of fish Schooler knocked off with the gaff: none. Sonny Jim!

Number of Monster Energy Rehab Green Tea drinks consumed by Drew, Gunny, and myself: umm, I didn't keep an actual count. They're only 20 calories each, so who cares? Bottoms up!

Daily percentage of saturated fat in one slice of tonight's desert, Dulce de Leche cheesecake: 140%...one hundred and forty percent!?!! Wowza!

Yellowfin tuna caught by Herb Yamanaka's jigs he sent us: too many to count. We're going to be millionaires. Prestige Worldwide.

How many people are currently viewing me sing the lyrics "...when I think about you, I touch myself" aloud while typing out tonight's report: none.

25 bluefin. Managed to keep a couple schools around the boat today and pick at them. A bait fished on 30lb flouro with a size 2-1/0 hook got most of our bites.

40+ bluefin onboard so far for Capt. Matt and the boys. These bluefin are averaging 40 pounds and are very catchable on 30 lb. come prepared with different line sizes from 20-40 lb. hooks from #4-2/0. Match your Flourocarbon size to your mainline size. Listen to the crew, even if you have been fishing since before they were born.

Ryan Bostian checked in from “The San Diego” this afternoon with an update from Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. The Bluefin Tuna are 20 to 120 pounds. Please make sure you are prepared. The Yellowtail are 5 to 10 pounds. Please bring one light rod and one heavy rod. A light rod would be 25 pound or 30 pound test. A heavy rod should be nothing less than 40 pound outfit a 50 or 60 would be better. The Bluefin are biting on a flat fall jig. A perfect out fit for he flat fall jig would be a Talica 12 filled up with 65 pound spectra with a short top shot of 80 pound fluorocarbon. Today we had Captain Cameron running the boat. He had a very respectable day offshore in a crowded ocean. FISH COUNT: 56 anglers caught 2 Bluefin Tuna and 52 Yellowtail.

21 pass. 88 yellowtail 2 bonito. Tomorrow’s trip has been cancelled due to weather. Wind is forecasted till Wednesday. Nice weather starts on Thursday.
