39 yellowfin 69 skipjack. If we get into a hot and heavy stop it is important to work together as a team. The crew and captain are the coaches, the passengers are the players. Communicate with each other. Anticipate that you will be moving around the boat, whether you have a fish on or not. Be aware that you are not the only person on the boat. Listen to the crew. And most importantly have fun. Team work makes the dream work.

73 Yellowtail, and 19 Bonito.  Another excellent November day for the guys.

Today we saw yellowtail, dorado, yellowfin and bluefin of all sizes. Unfortunately we were only able to catch 1 yellowtail. Hopeful for tomorrow. The wise angler would bring an assortment of setups from 20-60 lb.

July 10
 Alright everyone.  As I promised, July 10th has come and we are now out for the summer/fall so be prepared for a wonderful trip report like I have always brought, every night now.  After finishing a few things boat work style, and saying goodbye to the friends and family, we were ready to get out here for the long haul and that's just what we're doing.
 
 We showed up bright and early, put on some gas, loaded the herms(passengers) and left for the bait receivers.  We cant complain about the bait.  A bit on the larger side so we don't get as many but it's nice and healthy so we know they won't die and we'll catch fish with them.  Reports sound pretty good for the most part. Pretty good local action for the tunas with some better grade yellows showing up under the kelps.  The medium range yellowfin schools disappeared in the last few days but we know they'll show up somewhere soon.  You can still at least make a day of it yellowtailing  at the islands, and the ridge and rocks produce steady numbers of tuna, tail, and wahoo.  Speaking of wahoo, our 9 day in September has room.  Don't miss the trip of a lifetime.  Light load, lots of fish.  Come on, come on, come on.  Don't make me beg here.

 Anyways we're going to start out fishing offshore tomorrow and I don't know why I say start out because we'll be doing it all day.  We'll be hunting tuna and tails.  Pretty good reports in the zone we'll be rolling through the last couple days and we'd like to get in on that.  Tails and tuna baby, tails and tuna.

 On a sad note, we don't have one of our soldiers out with us this trip and we're not sure how long we'll be missing him at the moment.  Our dog Tommie "Gunny" Miles had some health issues he needed to handle.  I'm not going to go into the details but he's doing better and we hope to have him back as soon as possible.  Health comes first though.  I'm sure he's reading so maybe shoot him out a little "get better Guns" on FB.  We love you bud.

Hi friends. Not too much to report today. Things seemed a little different today as that big fish had their noses in the mud for the most part and we never tagged a fish over twenty pounds today. That smaller fish made their presence known but that's not really what we were targeting today. Oh well, I think the guys needed a break anyhow from their awesome day they had yesterday and with that, we're going to take a break from the tuna fishing scene and we're headed to a different area that we think will be holding some yellowtail and dorado on kelp paddies. We'll be there first thing in the morning and we'll report back to you tomorrow. Take care and wish us luck.

Hi friends. A lack of bigger fish was the main culprit for our day. Hard to not be spoiled with the previous two days but our weather was very pleasant and that smaller fish (12-22 lbs.) got on us, so out Tuesday was not lost. We did manage a handful of those bigger YFT's and BFT's and we'll be on the final leg of our hunt tomorrow. Oh yeah, today was also just a fine day to eat food. Sushi Schooler and Sushi Shawn kicked out some sushi, beautifully seared bluefin, yellowfin poki, and all the goods to go along with it. Not bad for a couple of round-eyes. Anyhow, Polaris Supreme and like I said, our weather was awesome and it's looking to repeat itself tomorrow. Hopefully --fishing wise-- we can repeat Sunday and Monday. Check back tomorrow and we'll hopefully finish this trip off with bang. Peace be with you, and also with you.

Oh yeah. Before I go, we're going to be giving you a brand new segment to our daily reports. It might not happen everyday but chances are it's going to happen on the reg. The new segment is called "Reasons We Make Mark Clark Wear A Hard Hat". If you've been following our reports, you'll know that last trip, we caught a big yellow hard hat and without hesitation, promptly gave it to our beloved deckhand, Mark, to wear for the duration of his career on the boat. So, without further delay, here is how our new installation will go.

Reason #1:
When fishing for squid, all one must do is drop the squid jig down, bounce it a little bit, raising the rod up and slowly dropping it back down while keeping the line tight. When you get a bite, the squid latches onto the jig with its tentacles and all you have to do is wind it up. That's all. But last night, history was made. While fishing side-by-each with Mark --Drew and I witnessed this with our bare eyes and still can't stop reliving this gem-- the jig was no more than five feet below the surface and as Mark was jigging, the strike came. A squid was just about to latch on to the end of the jig and all of a sudden, something we've never seen before happened. Mark set the hook. He set the hook! And I don't mean like, he gave it a little tug. He set this thing like he was Jimmy freaking Houston at the Bassmaster Classic. If we were kite fishing, we would've shown this hookset as a perfect example of how to set a hook once your kite baits have been eaten by a two hundred pound tuna. Thankfully, no one was hurt as the jig and sinker went flying into the side of the house at Mach 2, and we now have a brand new little blog baby to share with the world wide web. We hope you enjoy. Hi friends. Well, the morning bait/Yellowtail bite didn't quite pan out this morning so we decided to get our butts offshore and try to connect with some open water species. We managed to find a bunch of kelps and we had some action on some Yellowtails that way but we never located a school of Bluefin that wanted to bite. We did see a few schools of BFT as did the other boats in the area but they were reluctant to bite for any of us. Hopefully, tomorrow is a new day and these things will get with the program.

We'll be giving this a half a day or so tomorrow to see if we can't do some damage on the BFT tomorrow before we have to book it for home. Our weather was absolutely flat calm all day with a heavy overcast but the sea and wind conditions were stellar. We've got a little rain washing the boat as of right now (23:42 hours) and a few brave souls are downstairs trying for some squid. I'd better go see what they're up to.

Sunday, September 30th, 2012 -- Departure report.

Hi friends. We departed at 1800 hours on yet another 1.5 -day trip. After last trips bait, I was deathly concerned about what type of load we were going to get and to all of our surprise, we received a healthy and plentiful load of bait. We'll see how it fares throughout the night into tomorrow but for now, I'm pleased with those little critters. Hopefully, we put them to good use tomorrow.

For tomorrow, we'll be hitting the local grounds to try our hand a little closer to home. I'm excited about the prospects of finding something decent but I'm more excited about our weather outlook. Our program is showing five knots or less for the morning and afternoon so we're hoping the weatherman calls it right and Mama Nature gives us a break from yesterdays beating.

Anyhow, we're munchin' on some prime rib and getting our tackle put together. We'll be looking for a school in the dark to shut down on and we'll take things from there. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.
