Hi friends. Tough day out here on the Bluefin grounds for us. We saw a whole lot of fish today but we only had a couple of drifts that produced numbers for us. We had a respectable day but with the volume of fish we saw this afternoon, we were really hoping for a banner day but it never happened. The weather was beautiful once again so we're pumped about that but we were really hoping for another drift like we had yesterday. Anyhow, that's fishing and we're currently enjoying a southeasterly course to our next destination.

For tomorrows agenda, we'll be looking for bait and Yellowtail. It's time for a change of pace and we're hoping to get bent on some yella and some carnada manana. The gang is doing just fine and they're all having just a splendid time. It's dinner time and I have no idea what we're having. Some type of stuffed pork chop in a puff pastry or something. Chef Shawn, he's crazy. We'll chat with you tomorrow.

 Well today went as expected.  We woke up on the anchor after a lovely nights sleep and shortly after daylight we started scratching tuna.  It didn't take long to meet our quota.  Some already had it and were dropper looping for yellows and getting a few.  Anyways a little after 7 we pulled anchor and trolled around for wahoo.  One  more than half the boat caught a wahoo by lunch time and we took off for Alijos Rocks.  We traveled the rest of the day while we looked for something floating with dorado under it but we never found anything as expected.

 So like I said, we'll be at the stones in the morning.  We're going to try for some more wahoo before starting north to finish off our trip.  You never really can have enough wahoo.  There is 2 or 3 passengers left on board who have not caught a wahoo so we're going to make sure they get one before anyone else tomorrow.  We call it the troll of shame and Glenn, if you're reading at home, I always think of you when we do this.
         

 

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing, has proven to be one of the top boats in the highly competitive 3/4 day fishing scene. For many passengers it is their first time fishing live bait on a conventional reel, fishing a kelp paddy, or trolling. The crew on the San Diego is second to none in creating successful new anglers. In fact, the crew prides themselves on introducing future multi day fisherman to the sport we all know and love. Ryan Bostian the Owner Operator of the San Diego has excelled through the sport fishing ranks and continues to put out impressive numbers almost everyday. Bostian aka "Booger," the character from the movie "Revenge of the Nerds", (Bostian's favorite movie as a kid), began his career aboard the Dolphin as a Pinhead for Captain John Glawson. Like many of the young Pinheads, Ryan dreamed of one day moving up to a full time deckhand and eventually a Captain. He had no idea how quickly his dream would become a reality. During High School Ryan was able to secure a steady deckhand position on the New Seaforth and worked towards getting his Captains License. After High School he moved over to the Pacific Queen then owned and operated by Ed McEwen. He worked on the Pacific Queen for two years and also acquired his Captains License before leaving sportfishing to go to college. Ryan spent three years at Santa Barbara City and UCSB respectively. He enjoyed the University experience, however, according to Ryan, his skiff, was his favorite class and he often chose to fish while his actual classes were in session! It was obvious to Ryan that his passions were in sportfishing and he decided to return to Southern California. He returned to San Diego and started back as a deckhand on the Mission Belle for Captain David Ikeda. Ryan quickly proved himself, and was soon running the vessel. It was on the Belle, that he truly honed his skills as a Captain and spent three years as a hired skipper. When Ryan was just 23 years old, he had the opportunity to purchase the Mission Belle. He bought the Mission Belle in late 2001 and was the owner operator for 2 very successful years. During his tenure on the Mission Belle, The San Diego, a boat Bostian has often noticed for its great lines, came up for sale at Seaforth landing. He knew that didn't want to let The San Diego get away, so he purchased it as well in 2004. He owned and operated both boats for one year, with the help of Captain Ray "Stinger" Montera, but eventually sold the Mission Belle so he could fully focus on the San Diego. In 2005, Ryan did just that and did a full overhaul of The San Diego. He installed a new RSW system, new John Deere Engines, all new galley, and the coatings were replaced top to bottom. He moved the San Diego to the 5:30 to 5:00 run and has been able to not only keep up the success from the Mission Belle but has even increased his performance on the water. The offshore scene in 3/4 day range is as good as its ever been in recent years. I was able to join the crew of the San Diego on a trip last Thursday 8/15 and had a chance to see the great amount of life that is within 10-30 miles of San DIego. A huge biomass of bait was supporting all forms of life and made for an impressive view of the fantastic fishing San Diego has to offer. Last year was a banner year for the 3/4 day boats and this year seems to be even better with many exotics seriously on the chew. On our trip we landed 16 dorado and 46 yellowtail for the day. Ryan was very optimistic about the overall scene and looks for fishing to keep improving. If you are an angler and want to start your experiences offshore, or are an angler who needs to return the same day, the San Diego is the perfect boat to fish. Do yourself a favor and jump on board The San Diego and experience the best the the local offshore scene has to offer.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-01-2016 Good afternoon Polaris Supreme fans. Today we ended our Chaparro 5 day trip with a bang!!! We found plenty of kelps holding yellowtail and a few dorado which put smiles on all. It stared off early today with trolling team one setting out their rods and the mast-man up and looking. It didn't take long for our first kelp to come into view. As we pulled up to our first kelp and lines went into the water the yellowtail rushed the boat and and ate our baits. After repeating that several times we got what we needed for the trip. What a way to end the trip! Everyone is breaking down their gear and the crew is ready to clean the boat as we are now headed for San Diego. Gunny and the Supreme Team!

Yellowtail fishing fell on its face today we had about 1 around. But we managed to keep busy have fun and catch some killer table fair. Thats right Rock Cod. You should see the rock cod fishing we had, it was pretty darn good. We where lucky the yellowtail and the Rock cod grounds are one in the same and we could do both while waiting for the yellows to bite. The lings and reds made up most of our catch today. All of us are looking forward to dinner tonight, it is going to be fresh tuna we caught a few days ago. We will be back in the tuna grounds tomorrow to finish off our trip. Tommy and Crew.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 8-2-2017 Well I did find some photos of Tom Chaparros trip. One of the crew took a dozen pictures on his cell phone while he was running around working! As well as thinking Tom and the gang for a great fun filled trip I would like to extend a special thanks to Herb Yamanaka for bringing custom-made solid wood bowls to give out to all of the anglers and crew on the trip. Herb does this every year and the workmanship of his gifts are absolutely superb! Thank you Herb Tom and gang for a fun six days the Polaris supreme crew!

What a brutally slow morning. We drove around until 2 pm. and had only released one 190 lb., and four 50 lb. tuna. It was beginning to look like we were going to miss. Then we found the boomer sonar school of cows. They bit full speed, eight going at a time for two hours before they slowed down. Here is the result of those two hours. Scott released a 185 lb., and kept a 180 lb., 187 lb., and 231 pounder. Bob released a 180 lb., and kept a 210 pounder. Al released a 170 lb., and kept a 210 lb., and a 211 lb. tuna. Craig released a 170 lb. and a 185 lb. tuna. Roger kept a 160 lb., 170 lb., and 180 pounder. Sheridan released a 180 lb., 185 lb., and kept a 187 lb. tuna. Tom released a 175 lb., 195 lb., and kept a 228 pounder. George released a 180 lb., 190 lb., and kept a 213 pounder. So what was a bad day turned into an awesome day in just two hours. It was so fun. We had to hang up our jock straps and sun visors today and change into warmer apparel. It was a little cool, breezy, and started to get choppy late. Lunch was stuffed bell peppers with marinara sauce. Hors d'oeuvres were sushi, sashimi and corn dogs. Dinner was New York steaks. One more day to fish.
