southern maryland Fishing Report 2025

July 20
  Good evening folks.  Turn around day today.  In and out.  Unload, fuel, cherish baby, load, load and go.  That's how it goes down.  The bait receivers was fun.  Turns out all that rain we got may have effected the sardine we get there.  It's speculation but things weren't right.  We got some bait though.  Some good sardine and some good mackerel.  Yellowtail bait.  Tommy is back on board for this trip and he's decided to start off tailing tomorrow.  We're going to tail our butts off.  We'll see how it goes tomorrow but we most likely will get our tuna on the day after.

  Getting to know your crew: I've told you Mark is trying to bring his weight down.  Well Justin is in the same mode so I had an idea.  They're both throwing 50 bucks down.  He who loses the most weight by October 1, or the closest date we have a scale to October 1 takes the money.  Now that's a battle.  We have a couple of hungry crew members for sure.

  My rivals are on board this trip.  Many San Francisco Giant fans.  Uugh.  It just so happens that a 3 game series between them and my Pads start tonight.  I'm actually listening to the game now.  4-2 Pads in the 7th.  Now I know this is a fishing blog but it's a travel day.  You love it anyways.  I'll talk fishing tomorrow.

We had a great afternoon for our travel day. We got to the grounds around 4:30 in the afternoon and had over a hundred by dark. An absolute fun fun day for all. We'd see the fish , stop the boat, and catch them. Not like the albacore have been acting this year so far. See them, catch them. I like it when that happens. We stayed the night hoping for the same sign again today.

The old timers used to say “ wind from the south, fish close their mouth”. Today we had a brisk south wind all day and the yellowtail were a bit off. We saw plenty of fish and managed to land 83. Flylined baits and yo-yo jigs were the best today.

 About mid morning today I was pretty bummed. I felt we should've been here yesterday. I was thinking we were going to have to run in tonight to catch our tuna for the trip. I was wrong. Before lunch we had our best stop of the year on yellowfin. Not just number wise but size wise too. 20-30 pounders with a few 18's and a few 35's. That's right, feeling pretty good now. It didn't take very many of them to fill up a fish hold. We pretty much have 2 full fish holds and fortunately/unfortunately, we have to prepare another fish hold for tomorrow. I only say unfortunately because we'll be forced to use the beautiful sardine we've been saving. Out here we've been catching our own bait so we wouldn't have to use our stock but we have no room to put the bait we catch now.

 The bluefin weren't in the biting mode today. We still saw the schools as we have everyday since we've been fishing in this zone, but some days are bite days and some aren't. Obviously we're hoping tomorrow is a bite day. Some bluefin would be the cherry on top of this wonderful sundae.

 The weather sure was nice today and to top it all off, it looks like we'll have the same tomorrow. Sweet dreams. Life is good.
 

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-16-2016 Good afternoon guys. Fishing has been tough these last two days. We didn't end up putting any more fish on the boat after that afternoon report. Knowing the fact that the Yellowfin grounds would be crowded with boats today and not seeing a great sign of biting fish, we decided to rig up the big gear and run down to the trophy Bluefin Tuna grounds. We set up the boat early this morning in an area in which we had multiple schools of big Bluefin on the sonar at one time. We ended up hooking two fish and landing one monstrous 118 pound trophy Bluefin Tuna. Both of these fish were hooked on jigs. The second Bluefin we hooked chewed his way through line and escaped. We will be on the hunt for the big Bluefin for the rest of the day. Yesterday we had 54 California Yellowtail, 47 California Barracuda, 6 Kelp Bass, 3 California Sheephead, 35 Rockfish and 1 Lingcod.The fishing has been very good at the Coronado Islands! 24 Yellowtail for 6 anglers. Weather has been bad lately, but things are turning around. 

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 08-05-2019 Today started off great. We had a nice little night bite on yellowtail and picked up a few white Seabass to go with it. The quality yellowtail is gorgeous! After daylight things pick back up and we had great fishing all way through midday. Half of the fish was 25 to 30 pound range yellowtail. Although a little windy at times our weather was pretty good all day. Definitely going to give this a try again tonight and tomorrow. The Polaris Supreme Crew!
