Osterkamp charter had to work hard for every bite but in the end we achieved our goal. (1) made it home safe. (2) enjoy the ocean with friends and family. (3) every one of our 43 customers caught a fish as we ended with 61 yellowfin tuna.

Yesterday night Captain Ryan Bostian called in with a Coronado Islands update. We are probably having the best Yellowtail fishing we have ever seen at the Coronado Islands. Yesterday Captain Taro had a charter with 145 Yellowtail. Two days ago we had 251 Yellowtail. The boat is not sold out we do have spots available You will need a passport. "Today we went out we caught 28 Yellowtail. We had a couple good opportunities at them today, one in particular was a very fun stop. We ended up with 28 fish in the 15 to 25 lb. range. They are finding the fly line sardines the best on 25 lb, surface lures will work but the fly line is the best.

You go to a spot, you sit there catching nothing. All of a sudden, 15 are hooked. That is kind of the way they are behaving right now. "We fished at Cedros Island and we fished on offshore kelps," said Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson July 28. He'd just ended a five-day Catchy Tackle trip with 24 anglers, and was weighing the catch at the Fisherman's Landing scales.
"We got yellowtail, dorado and some non-biting albacore," he added, "and; wow!" The albacore he hung on the scales pushed the numbers up to 41 pounds even. "That's the best one so far this season," I remarked. Henderson high-fived angler Al Brandenburg, who grinned and brought his fish over to the side for some photos. Brandenburg said he got the big longfin on a sardine and a 2/0 Flyliner hook. He used 30-pound Izorline on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Calstar 700 M rod. He won second place in the jackpot. Harvey Rosen of Benecia bagged a 43.6-pound yellowtail on the dropper loop to win first place. "He fought like a bulldog," said Rosen, who used a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook with 60-pound Izorline XXX mono, an Avet 4-2 reel and a Seeker 6460 glass rod to beat his fish in ten minutes. Don Spitzer of Petaluma was third, for a 33.8-pound yellowtail. Chartermaster Wayne Martin hoisted a dorado he said was typical of those encountered on kelps.

Grinding away at good ones! Today was better fishing. It was still a grind but we were able to get some real trophies for our last day. Pictured here we have Mic with his beautiful Yellowfin. Also we have Jim Holman and Jon Collins with their big fish of the trip! Nice Job guys!

July 25          
  We had a very busy turn around today.  It was time to change oil and fuel filters and make a repair.  But all is good and we're under way.  Our new computers are getting more and more dialed in.  I now have spell check.  I love sitting back in the chair now and typing these reports.  Not now though because the letters shrunk on me again.  I'm going to have to figure that out.  So here we go again on another 5 day.  Our baits good we think.  Time will always tell.  It's looking like things might get a bit breezy the next few days so we have Cedros in mind.  We're going to fish tuna tomorrow first and then most likely fish the Island the day after for a couple days and let the weather come down before finishing up in tuna land for our last day.  That's the game plan at the moment anyway.  Things change out here all the time though.  In the end we just take it one day at a time.

  The official weigh in is in.  We have Mark weighing in at 231.4 pounds.  And in the left corner we have Justin weighing in at 228.2 pounds.  If your just tuning in, he who loses the most weight by October 1 wins the bet.  I'll keep you posted after each progress report hopefully at the end of each trip.  This excites me.  Competition.  I love it.
         

August 21

Hello all of you readers. We departed on our Let's Talk Hook Up 4 day trip this afternoon and said some prayers as we headed to the bait receivers. So far as I write this I am still pleasantly pleased by the bait we got. It's still not a dynamite load of bait but compared to last trip we're holding our heads high. Only time will tell. Relaxing afternoon aboard the Polaris Supreme. The weather couldn't be better and it appears we should be blessed with another wonderful flat trip in the open seas.

It's 7 o'clock p.m. and I'm still not 100 percent sure of where we'll be tomorrow. I'm leaning towards starting off where we left off last trip. You'll find out tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Today we started our Thorne family four day trip. Most of the fishing seems to be slightly out of our reach today. However we were able to pull on some fish. Mostly Skip Jack and small Yellowtail. Not necessarily the targeted species but great fun for the kids as well as a good starter for the adults.Nothing is better practice for following your lines than a school of wild Skipjack! Here we have Kingston and Justine with the perfect starter fish to get the skunk off and release back into the ocean. Now we are ready for tomorrow. Targeting Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado .
