Polaris Supreme Report 07-26-2016 Hello everyone Today we really put the nose to the grind stone and had to work at these yellowtail. There are big fish around but they are proving to be very difficult to catch. Today we had 3 obstacles: slack current in the morning, hundreds of veracious baby yellowtail, and the famed sea lion. These mammals proved to be the toughest bout we encountered when it came to landing big fish. Many of the better quality yellowtail were lost to the sea lions including an absolute standout monster that would have went over 40 pounds. We were able to boat the fish, but not after the taxman left his mark on the portion of the belly. That aside we made out with a nice catch for the day, everyone was able to put tags on plenty of fish. It was a truly action filled day, full of hundreds of releases and hard fought battles with the sea lions with hard won success in the end. Especially our dark bite that went off right at dinner. That was all beautiful quality fish and no sea lions they were already on land sleeping. Hopefully tomorrow will be at least as good with a little less action on the sea lions . Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-18-2013

 

Where, oh where are the fish hiding? We traveled in a northerly direction all day, prospecting in some very fishy-looking water, without much success. Nice, clean, warm water too. That's why it's called "fishing" and not "catching". We stayed within view of the Baja coast virtually the entire day. Very, very rugged and remote coastline, with the occasional extremely small village, and/or primitive fishing "camp". Many discussions on the boat about how these spots get their water, fuel, food, etcetera in order to live. Our route also put us in a position to have to dodge what seemed like hundreds of lobster traps dotting the immediate coast.

Our weather finally kicked up a notch, after spoiling us for the past eight days. Nothing major, but heading uphill with a fifteen knot breeze is making for an interested ride. I suppose the best description for now would be "bumpy". A nicely presented dinner of filet mignon with crabcakes, potatoes, and asparagus was served, along with a raspberry sorbet for dessert. We'll continue the hunt for some yellowtail on our way home, as this trip winds down.

We'll check back later, hopefully with some positive results from our prospecting. Mike would like to wish his lovely wife Jenny a very happy anniversary. We don't know exactly what time our arrival will be at the dock on Wednesday morning, but if you're meeting the boat, give Susan a call at the office on Tuesday night for an update, and a more accurate ETA.

Had an insane stop on Long range size Yellowfin. 3 hours later we ended up with 11 fish. Lost as many. Had 7 going at once, for our 6 anglers! Good stuff

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning from the Tribute. We are fishing out West today. We are catching Yellowfin Tuna and Bluefin Tuna. We have 90 mixed fish on the boat at 8:30 AM. We also have a good score on the Yellowtail. They are biting the 30 pound pretty job. We got a few on the Jig. We do have spots open on Sunday's trip. Hello Polaris Supreme Fans, After a good night of sleep we started off our day on the anchor in the same area as yesterday. Right at day break we started to see Wahoo jumping around chasing bait not long after we had our first hookup. For the better part on the morning we kept 1-3 fish going. It seem like today the Wahoo wanted the the flyline bait over the jig. Not only did the Wahoo want to bite but the school size tuna also wanted to play too. Around lunch time the bite slowed so we pulled anchor and went trolling around looking, It didn't take us long to find another pack of hungry Wahoo and tuna. Once again we finished our day off on the anchor with a great pick on Wahoo and tuna. There are still spots available on our 10 day coming up. Today we went out with 35 passengers and the yellowtail pulled a no show. The conditions at the Coronado islands were actually nicer today than yesterday. I honestly believe that the yellowtail are still at the islands however we never found them today. We will give it another shot tomorrow. It would be a good idea to start bringing out your bait rods. 25-30 lb. is perfect for live bait fishing.

We traveled all day in excellent weather. We just rigged, rigged, rigged and ate, ate, ate. We are excited to get to where we are going. Check in tomorrow for our report. Thanks, Tommy and crew
