I had such a great time fishing with Captain Ryan Bostian and his crew aboard the San Diego that I couldn't resist jumping aboard again for another shot at some of those big Coronado Island yellows. There are big schools of yellowtail roaming the Coronado Islands and recent fish counts have been ranging anywhere from just a few fish to 70-80 fish per trip. No sense trying to figure it out. Pick a day and go !!! Captain Bostian and the San Diego fish the Coronado Islands everyday, so nobody knows them better or fishes them harder than the Captain and his crew. We looked for and caught a few barracuda along the coast as we made our way down to the Coronados. We worked several areas of both islands looking for a school of yellows that wanted to stay with the boat. We saw plenty of action around the boat and would hook one or two yellows at each spot, but we could never get them to bite aggresively. We landed 10-11 nice yellows highlighted by Aiyana Schwartz's huge jackpot yellow that she hooked on a dropper looped sardine. All in all a great day on the water with an excellent chance at catching a trophy fish. The Coronado Islands are about to break wide open and Captain Bostian and the crew aboard the San Diego will be there. Captain Ryan Bostian checked in at 12:56 PM with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay, CA. We have been fishing the Coronado Islands for the past few months. The water temps dropped significantly so we fished offshore today. Captain Cameron checked in at 11:15 with 35 Yellowtail. We are hoping the Bluefin make a showing. We are fishing offshore tomorrow too. Call Seaforth now and get in on the action.

Fishing yesterday was absolutely fantastic. The grade of albacore that we were catching was beautiful with half being 30-40 lbs. and the other half averaging 22 lbs. Weather yesterday and today is excellent. This morning we are already into albacore, blue fin and yellow fin. Looks like a another great day on the water. Our private charter had passports and wanted to fish the islands so we enjoyed a day of stop and go action. They were rewarded with 73 yellowtail 68 bonito. Back offshore tomorrow.

Wow what a crazy sky this evening here along the Baja coast! Yesterday we departed on our annual AHI 7 day charter. The AHI charter has been around for 23 years and going strong! Today the charter spent the day rigging up, relaxing, and unwinding to a great selection of music, complete with a special outfitted sound system here aboard Polaris Supreme for this charter. It is a truly enjoyable atmosphere here, and the weather could not be better to go with it. We are all rigged up and ready for our first day of wahoo fishing tomorrow morning. Wish us luck! I've said it before and I'll say it again. Bluefin are the most unpredictable fish out there that we fish for. If you would have told me yesterday that we were going to have a day like we had today, I would have laughed in your face. Never again though. I will never trust this fish. For the last several days the bluefin fishing was very poor. I really thought that it was over for the year. I was wrong. Today we experienced the best bluefin tuna fishing I have ever seen. This is on a quantity to quality ratio that I'm talking about here. In my 13 years of long ranging, today was the best for the Bluefins.

Just after 6:00 this morning we stopped on a single fish mark under the boat. Just after 6:00 tonight we left them. The whole time we drifted it was pretty much wide open. The fish were from 25 up to 75 pounds. Most of them being in the 30-40 pound range. Once again we went into battle and we won. Oh yeah, we fished in the rain. At around 11:00 it started raining and it never stopped. Everyone on board was absolutely drenched all day and it was awesome. By the end of our stop no one was fishing so Mark and I grabbed a couple of rods and boated 3 of them ourselves. It was only Mark and I fishing and I was bringing one in and wouldn't you know it, when the fish was at gaff, there was Mark's spectra tangled all over my fish. 2 anglers fishing and he manages to make a big tangle. MAAAARK!!! I would have made him put on the dunce helmet but he was already wearing it. Heres why. There was a 2 fish tangle and Mark grabbed 1 of the rods to unwrap it and he dropped it right in the water. MAAARK!!!. Unbelievably another person fishing managed to hook one of the guides on the rod and we got it back. Fish and all. I immediately tossed Mark the yellow dunce helmet and he wore it all day.

Needless to say everyone on board is beat tired and we will not have any trouble sleeping through the night tonight. We're headed for the yellowtail grounds now and will be there first thing in the morning.

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Hello good friends and happy Friday to all of you. A short day for us as we only had a few minor jobs to wrap up. We completed the final sanding of the hull and with a slight change of plans to the inside bulwarks, we had to sand the entire inside of the boat but only the stern section from gate to gate. So now the entire outside of the hull, the inside of the bulwarks from the boarding gates aft, and spots forward of the gates are ready to go for the gloss coat. It only took us a couple of hours to square everything away and with a much needed freshwater rinse and cleaning up, our day was complete and we started the weekend off early. Also this morning, the propellers, shafts, and rudders were put back in and on Monday, the painters will be suiting up and applying the gloss coat. Man, what a fantastic day that will be. Not only for the boat but for us as well. Painting days mean very short days for the crew, so it's pretty much a three-day weekend for us and with the NBA Playoffs starting on Saturday, the weekend is going to be a good one. With that said, it's pretty much all downhill from here (knock on wood).

Our haul-out will be about half-complete with the major sanding and painting being finished on Monday. After that, it's on to the bait tank for our next painting project. We still have to sand our mahogany rails, drill and replace the zincs, and a few other jobs to complete and hopefully, we'll be back in the water sometime next week. It's a good thing we got into the boatyard early this year as it's starting to get a little bit crowded down there. Along with a couple of naval vessels, tug boats, commercial fishing boats and some private yachts, the long-range fleet is starting to make their way onto the blocks. With the Red Rooster III splashing down this morning after their stay at Knight & Carver, the Spirit of Adventure and Qualifier 105 were hauled out as well and the Searcher expected to be with us sometime in the next few days, it'll be nice to get back home and finish things up back at the docks. Just like our longer trips in the fall/winter, it's always a relief to arrive back to our slip at Fisherman's Landing. It's also special to tie back up to the docks because that means Mitch's Seafood for lunch a few days a week. Can't beat that.

125 yellowfin for our 45 passengers. We had 2 drifts today both of which took a finesse presentation to get a bite. Size 2 or even size 4 hooks on 20lb flouro carbon is still the recommended set up when the tuna are picky. And special thanks to Captain Todd and crew of the @voyagersportfishing for letting us double team a very nice school with them.
