Looks like we have some very strong winds coming on Friday and Saturday. If you plan on fishing this weekend. Sunday will probably be the best day.

15 anglers, 27 yellowtail from 12-20 lbs and lots of big bonito. Yo yo jigs and surface iron on 40 lb mono.

Captain Ryan Bostian from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, CA.  Today we had great fishing and a light load.  Our 9 anglers ended up with 45 California Yellowtail (LIMITS) and 45 Vermilion Rockfish (LIMITS).

Captain Ryan Bostian just called in with an update from The San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. Today we had 33 Yellowtail (18 to 31 pounds) for 48 anglers. They fish were biting good in the morning on YoYo Iron. Then in the afternoon the surface action picked up. We are seeing lots of fish and things are looking good for the Coronado Islands. "It was really good fishing wahoo at the bank," said Rothery at the sales. "We stayed there two days and then went in to the southern banks where the big fish were." All the big fish (there were 13 tuna over 200 pounds weighed on the certified scales at Fisherman's) came from the southern banks. There were just as many from 100 to 200 pounds as there were cows, and those were found in both spots. "The Baja tuna were real steady biters," said Rothery. "There were lots of ‚Дтem around, we could see ‚Дтem at the surface and on the meter most of the time." Research biologist Chugey Sepulveda got the big one, related his pal and fellow biologist Scott ("Scootch") Aalbers of San Diego. Chugey wasn't able to be at the weigh-in. The fish weighed 306.2 pounds. Chugey had two more cows, at 220 and 201 pounds. "Scootch" said Chugey got the big one and the others on one of the boat's heavy rigs and the kite. He used two sardines on 6/0 Mustad 7691 hooks, tied to 130-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izorline Spectra, on a Tiagra 50 W reel and a Calstar 655 XXH rod. "He got it on the next to the last day," said Scootch, "about four p.m. He fought it for an hour and 15 minutes, and it wrapped him around the anchor line about 15 times. The crew helped out a lot with the fork." Tom Bass of Newport Beach won second place for a 274.8-pound tuna. He also had a 232 and a 206-pound yellowfin. Tom said he got his fish on a sardine and an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook, pm 100-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon leader of 15 feet, tied to 130-pound Izor Spectra on a Tiagra 50 reel and a Calstar 6460 XXH rod. Hack Bernstein of Valencia bagged a 269.6-pounder. He fished a sardine on an 8/0 Eagle Claw hook tied to 130-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izor Spectra on a boat rig: Tiagra 50 reel and a Calstar 655 XXH rod. Pat Jaeger of Bishop posed with his daughter Maggie, three, and the 268-pound tuna he got with a double sardine rig on the kite. He said he used 100-pound P-Line and 130-pound Izor Spectra on a Penn 50 W reel and a Baja Boomer rod. Ryan Gillette of Orange was another who used a double trouble sardine rig on the boat's rod and reel to take a 246-pounder. Robert Kalatschan found a brace of cows, at 226 and 213 pounds. There were two more cows that appeared at the scales without tags, said Susan Rothery. One weighed 214 pounds and the other went 202.

Polaris Supreme arrived August 23 with skipper Drew Henderson at the wheel. Ryan Christianson of San Diego was chartermaster for the 24 anglers aboard on the Let's Talk Hookup trip. Mark Greul of Omaha, NE presented a 58-pound yellowfin at the scales and won first place for his effort. He said his fish bit a sardine on a 3/0 Flyliner hook tied to 30-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 30-pound Ande line. He used a Torium 30 reel and a Seeker Black Steel C8 seven and a half-foot rod. Richard Miller of Jackson won second place for a 40-pound albacore. Mark Cornoll of Jackson won third place for a 31.6-pound yellowtail.

Hi friends. Our first day of the Garry Roberts 9-day adventure found us conveniently traveling right through the Bluefin/Yellowfin zone first thing this morning, so we decided to give it a try for a few hours and then we would continue on with our southerly travels. We managed to troll up a few Yellowfin and we also found a couple spots of 12-18 lb. Bluefin that bit quite well for a short time. After tagging some fish and capturing a handful for the galley guys to sashimi up, we continued on with our journey down to greater points south. A nice warm-up for the guys and a nice break in the long travel days on 9-day tripsthat usually go without even wetting a line for a couple of days. The gang appreciated it very much and were stoked with the outcome of some fresh sashimi for the next few days.

After the fishing was all said and done, we gathered everyone into the galley for our tackle seminar. Another thing fishing this morning was good for was to get a gauge on whether or not the gang remembered the fishing procedures we employ here on the Polaris Supreme. To say they passed with flying colors is an understatement but we called the troops into the galley for the seminar anyways and with one look around the tables and salon area, it was apparent that an in-depth seminar was not needed not only because all of the passengers are on this very trip year after year but because half of the anglers began taking full advantage of the seminar with a good nap. All of the passengers on-board are Polaris Supreme veterans of many years, and I mean all of the passengers. These guys know what's up so we made quick work of the seminar and began the tackle rigging, eating, watching movies, reading, various maintenance projects, and napping. Awesome traveling weather made for a relaxing, laid back day of preparation and last minute check-ups.

As for tomorrow, we'll be offshore looking at some interesting looking water temperature breaks for kelp paddies, porpoise, breezers, and any other signs of life holding Yellowfin, Wahoo, Dorado, and Yellowtail. The weather forecast looks good and we're excited about the prospects of tomorrow. Wish us luck and we'll report back to you tomorrow.
