ponce inlet offshore Fishing Report 2024

We left on a 1.5 trip yesterday and headed south, at daybreak the jigs went in and it didn’t take long to hear the sound of “HOOKUP” from there on we would stop on plenty schools of yellowfin tuna, yellowtail and Mahi Mahi . it was a fun day.

The goal at the beginning of this week was to find a new area of fish. Last weekend we started to see signs of our area drying up so on Monday we decided to go looking for new fish. While our fish count did not show success (1 yellowtail) I was very happy with the day because of all the water we were able to eliminate. On Tuesday we went out with 17 anglers and put what we learned on Monday to good use. Our fish count for the day was 20 dorado and 48 yellowtail. The dorado we caught were 10-20 pounders and the yellows were 5-15 pounders. Wednesday and Thursday we sat at the dock due to bad weather. Fridays fish count for 30 anglers was 42 yellowtail. Capt. Ray took over on Saturday and came back to the dock with 27 yellowtail. The next 4 days will determine what we do with our schedule. If the offshore fish are still available in November we will stick with our 5:30-7:00 offshore schedule. If the offshore fish go away we will switch over to 7:00 - 4:00 local fishing. I will keep everybody posted.

Captain Mike Pritchard checked in at 8:15 AM with an audio update from the Tribute out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We have been drifting since 6:30. We have 8 or 9 hanging right now. We have had a bunch of casualties due to old line or locked up drags. We have had some quality action so far today. Our next trip is a light load. Come on out fishing with us for trophy Bluefin Tuna.

The Voyager just got a opening on the 28th of may and will be running a overnight mexican coast trip. Limited to only 16 passengers!!! Spring is here and good signs of surface action are appearing day to day. The cost of the trip is $115.00 and this will include your mexican permit. "It's 1 O'Clock here & I think we have 10 Yellowtail on the boat." Ryan went on, "we're seeing them pretty good here this morning. These are very big fish, we have lost another 10 for sure. We had one stop where we hooked 4 and lost them all. That's just the way it goes with this sized fish. They are bigger today, about 25 pounders. Biting mainly to fly line bait, we have caught a couple fish on the yo-yo and on surface lures. But they are maily biting the fly lined bait. I'll give you a final talley on the way in. As of 1:00 PM I know we have at least 10 Yellowtail on the boat maybe a couple more. And we're still seeing them hook a few. I'll get back to you later.

 Today didn't go as well as we were hoping. The plan sounded so good in my head too. You don't believe me? Come inside my mind and tell me it didn't sound like a good plan, you'll be a liar. The plan was to start here and work there. We were supposed to catch a bunch of yellowtail, then catch a wahoo or two, then scratch at some dorado here and there along with another wahoo or two, then we were supposed to get a small hit on wahoo in the end before finding the motherload of dorado.

 Well, there wasn't much yellowtail. The little bit of dorado we saw either didn't bite or was small. And we didn't see a wahoo until the end. We did see a school of good grade yellowfin that wasn't in our plan. It didn't bite for long though. It was on the corner biting every bait for about three minutes. Just long enough for everyone to get one and then they vanished. I drove around thinking I would easily find the school again but we never did. We lost at least 6 wahoo on the last spot we checked and landed none. The wahoo won today.

 Cool things of note today- the sailfish we caught, a couple marlin hooked and the orcas we saw. In the 14 seasons I've been out here I can only remember a handfull of times seeing killer whales so it's not too often we see them. We also don't catch sailfish too often.
