Aug. 17
    Today almost went as planned except for the lack of yellowfin.  We were supposed to scratch pretty good at the yellowfin in the morning, like 40 or so and then get on that big bluefin, and then scratch out another 30 or so yellowfin in the evening.  Well we did the middle part but the numbers were lower on the sides.  We saw plenty of that yellowfin, it just didn't bite well.  On with the cool part.  We found a mega school of that 70-100+ pound bluefin mid morning.  It's been a long time since I've seen a mega school and every time I do I forget about the time before and I think it's the biggest school I've ever seen and that's how today was.  Of course it didn't bite, but for me up in the wheel house where I can see it well it was incredible.  Just the area of fish was monstrous, and when you add in all the shiners and thousands of black backs swimming through, it's amazing.  We fished it for 4 hours on different attempts.  On the first, the youngster Brendan hooked up and landed about an 80 pounder.  On the second, his dad Scott hooked up and lost it and we hooked and lost another one.  On the third, Scott hooked up again but this time he landed his 107 pounder. So far it's looking like we'll have a father- son jack pot.  On the next few tries we got no reaction so we let it regroup for a while and a couple hours later we found it again and we hooked two more and lost them both and we missed a bite on the kite.  We tried it one more time after that for no reaction before we left it for good.  We're going to fish again tomorrow.  We'll make a small move and relocate but as things are right now, we don't need much more yellowfin so we'll concentrate on the other kind of tuna.
                                    

 

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-13-2016 Good evening readers! We departed on Archie Steele's annual five day fishing trip. We left the harbor with a beautiful load of mid size sardines. There are a couple anglers who are new to the Polaris Supreme and we are eager to show them the Supreme experience! We will be fishing for yellowtail early tomorrow morning. We had a descent morning and a descent evening. It was the in between part that stunk for us. From about 9 till 5 we caught and saw nothing. But in the morning it was steady stopping and after 5 we drifted catching fish until after dark so all in all I'd call it a good day. The fish were yellowfin tunas and we're still pulling on one as I write this and that's all I have to say about that. We're going to run up into American waters tonight and try for the Bluefins and the yellowfins tomorrow for our last day of this trip.

Brynn, Brynn, Brynn. Yes you. You sweet little 17 month old you. Your daddy says hi and he misses you and he loves you very much. I know you can read this. I have a sister in law named Brenna. Close enough.

Thanks for the amazing response to the OPEN Shimano Charters we scheduled for the Channel Islands this spring. The response was so positive that I spoke with the folks at Shimano and they agreed to put another trip on line. This one will be set for fishing on March 13. That would be departing at 9pm on the night of the 12th. This trip will be just like the others. Shimano will provide a bunch of outfits for fishing butterfly and lucanus systems. What's good, people. There are two kinds of Sinclairs in this world, Upton and Matthew. We had both today. Our fishing was Upton Sinclair-style, real good, and we have Matthew Sinclair and his mustache to help us on deck this trip. We caught all of the major species today and we even got our bronze on. First of the season! You farmers and your tans were no match for the Baja sun that we soaked up today. It was hot and flat out here, check the pictures if you don't believe me. Polaris Supreme. Come to think of it, ever since I took my shirt off, the fish wouldn't stop jumping into the boat until I buttoned her back up at days end. Ouch. Anyhow, awesome fishing at the Ridge today and just when we thought it was all said and done, Tommy "Black Eyes" Miles found a kelp at five miles that kicked out all the flatheads we could handle. Never underestimate the blackhawk and his powerful vision. Oh yeah baby, I done told y'all once to get on our level and I don't like to repeat myself. Ronny and the boys are so pumped right now. Big yellowfin, big bluefin, small yellowfin, small bluefin, big dorado, small dorado, big yellowtail, and small yellowtail. Oh yeah, we even hooked a really nice striped marlin today too. Abbey Wombat (the U.S. womens soccer star) couldn't be more proud of us right now. God Bless America.

So what's the plan for tomorrow? I don't know, I'm just a deckhand but I'll ask the skipper ... skipper says it's a secret. Intriguing. We'll report back tomorrow.

The Voyager will be fishing Seabass this wekend on it,s 1.5 day departing friday night. San Clemente, and Catalina is the destination. Limited load 12 people $300 includes meals and bunk. Contact Jodie at 858-220-1593

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning with an update from the Tribute. So far off to a great start we have over 75 mixed fish. We have 30 Bluefin Tuna (20 to 45 pounds). We have 40 Yellowfin Tuna and a handful of Yellowtail. Extended 1.5 day trip departing at 5 PM on Friday night. We have seen some tuna up to 120 pounds caught in this zone.
