pinecrest Fishing Report 2024

The San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego,CA checked in with us today:

36 yellowtail 1 calico bass. Did a lot of driving to get a few good shots. Conditions seemed to be improving today, hoping for a big hit in the near future.

Today we departed on Bob Vance's annual 5-day charter. It's always great to see Bob and his group. He is one of our longest running charters, and while there are always a couple new faces, there a quite a few that have been with Bob since the beginning. We spent the day traveling, preparing our gear, and dined on a monstrous grilled steak and potato for dinner. We are underway and anxious to get our lines in the water. Check in tomorrow.  Good evening folks. Today didn't fair out like we planned. It proves that's why it's called fishing and not catching. We didn't have the awesome weather that we had yesterday, but it was certainly fishable. Our common yellowtail zone has been producing fairly well over the past few weeks, but there are those off days too. What's encouraging though, is there is also school of yellowfin tuna down here South as well. It's great for keeping our options open for when the tails don't want to cooperate. My feeling is the the tails just took a day off to regroup and we'll get at it first thing in the morning and start tagging some fish right away. On a brighter note, we did move north a little ways in the early afternoon and hit a giant breezer of tuna. Pretty close to a football field size I would say, and we managed to get a nice chunk of them to stick with us. It took some shoveling of bait to get them to stick, but they did. Nothing like a nice chaotic tuna bite to break up the day. We managed to turn it into a nice 100 fish stop of a pretty good grade I might add. All and all, we ended up putting a descent afternoon and everyone got to tag plenty of tuna. Tomorrow is a new day, we'll cross our fingers that the fish God's are on our side tomorrow and we'll check back in after we wrap it up for the day.

Happy July 4th everyone.
    We started our morning off doing some bluefin watching.  It's like whale watching but instead of whales you watch bluefin.  In other words they didn't bite.  We got on one spot and they were practically smacking the side of the boat they were so close but they wanted nothing to do with us.  After a little bit of that and a kelp for some yellows and our first dorado of the year we started getting strikes on yellowfin.  It was pretty steady for 1 1/2 hours then shut down for 1 1/2 hours then started up again for 1 hour then went completely dead.  We went west because west is best.  After lunch things got interesting.  We started to see big schools of yellowfin and it didn't stop until dark.  As my grandma would say, "holy Toledo!".  Unfortunately they were not biting fish.  We would get stops for 2,1,1,2,4,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,1,2, like that.  But we stayed busy and worked  hard at it and scratched out a nice catch.  We had 40 tuna stops and averaged 2 per stop.  Now thats scratching.

    The weather was incredible.  As my grandma would say, "holy Toledo!".  Variable winds all day.  That means there wasn't enough wind to measure.  I think that's what it means anyway.  We're headed back in and will be docking at 7:15 in the am and we will be turning around on a 6 day.  I'll be your captain.  See you then.
                                

 

32 large bonito today. Weather is keeping us tied to the dock for a few days. Next available trip is Friday. Make those reservations.

Hi friends. We arrived this morning to Fisherman's Landing on-time and unloaded our catch from the Joe Beck/Bob Vance 5-day trip and big fish honors go as followed: Dan "Re-Ride" Burns and Tim Dughi tied for first with their 30.4 lb. Yellowtail and Uncle Norman Wintjen took third place with his 23.4 lb. Yellowtail. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Joe Beck and the gang for yet another great trip. We'll see y'all next year. Anyhow, we departed on Garry Roberts annual 9-day adventure and Garry has brought along with him the usual suspects and everyone is antsy to see what the southern-most destinations of Baja California Sur have to offer. For a little warm-up, we'll be giving the Bluefin/Yellowfin area a short try tomorrow morning before we continue on to greater points south. Wish us luck and we'll chat with you tomorrow.

A slow morning, a productive afternoon. We gave Benitos Island a thorough check for not much to show for. Same old looking at fish that won't bite. We made the run down to Cedros for the afternoon. We eventually found the jumbo size yellows and fished them till almost dark before it shut off. We're going to run up tonight to fish dorados and yellows and tuna in the morning. It's steak night tonight and they're calling. See ya.

9 Bluefin, 6 Yellowtail, 1 Yellowfin and 1 Yellowtail for our 14 Angler’s today. Not too shabby, we go again tonight with a light load.
