Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning at 6:45 AM. Today we 8 Bluefin Tuna on the boat and 1 Yellowfin Tuna (22 pounds). Most of the fish are in the 20 to 25 pound range. We do have 2 fish hanging. We have flat calm weather and a light load of 14 anglers.
We have lots of room on our trip for tomorrow. The weather looks like it is going to be nice again tomorrow.

I told myself yesterday that if we caught 30 wahoo today it would be worth the move. We caught 31. Scoooore!
It was good in the morning. By 10:00 we were moving right along on pace to have one heck of a day. Then things went slow. We were able to scratch just enough, and with the expectancy of an evening hit, we still were feeling good. That hit never happened. One here and two there was the rest of our day. But like I said, I'm very pleased with what we caught. It was definitely worth the ride. It helps that every wahoo we caught this trip is a toad. 40-50+ pounds baby.
We're headed up now. We'll have to be making headway toward home for the rest of the trip. We only have a couple of days left. We're going to give it a shot and finding a dorado kelp in the morning. The 3 boats that tried it prior to us struck out so we'll have a back up plan. Our plan B is to fish yellows at an island tomorrow afternoon. See you tomorrow.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late last night with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing in Mission Bay, CA. We caught 97 Yellowtail and 120 Calico Bass today. The majority of the fish were caught on fly-lined baits. We did catch some Yellows on the YoYo too!
Bring a 25 pound live bait stick with mono. We do not recommend spectra and a shot top shot for what we are doing right now. Also 1 and 2 o hooks. For yoyo bring your 40 pound outfit.

Today we had about as good of yellowtail fishing as you can get. Quality to quantity ratio, holy Toledo. 18-25 pound fish and they were biting pretty much as full speed as yellows bite for a couple hours and after that it slowed down but they were still biting well for a couple more. If you have read my past reports you know that surface iron fishing on big yellows is my favorite kind of fishing and it was pretty much wide open on the surface iron. Holy Toledo! I'm not the only one who felt this way either. We have a Polaris Supreme first timer on board, his name is Josh and he may love it more then me. He named his dog after a surface iron. Tady. How cool is that? We've had a tank of mackerel on board for about 3 weeks and we finally let them go today. On hooks that is before getting eaten by yellows. In the late afternoon ewe looked for bait and found some a couple hours before dark and caught a tank full of nice mackerel. We restocked our supply. We made a couple drifts along a kelp line while the sun set and tugged on a few calico bass and now we're headed up to fish tuna tomorrow. Sweet dreams.

We arrived today at Fisherman's Landing at 7 am after a nice smooth ride last night. After weighing up the jackpot we were pleasantly surprised with the fact that the yellows were larger than we thought. Joe Beck took 1st place with a 42.6 lb yellowtail. Mike Grella took 2nd with a 41.3 yellowtail and Tim Walsh followed it all up with the 3rd place 39.6 lb yellowtail. Congratulations to our jackpot winners.
The Polaris Supreme will be departing next on Thursday afternoon on a private 1 1/2 day charter sponsored by Optima. We still have openings on our 3-day departing July 10 as well as other trips throughout the summer. Give Susan a call to get on board.

Good evening. A sloppy ride last night was forgotten about around 1000 hours this morning as what was a crummy ride a few hours before turned into a stable ride for most of the day. With the bucking seas last night we only had an hour or so of actual stop time if we got into anything special but it never happened. We trolled through beautiful water today but were unable to locate or catch anything. Lack of bait species in the water is probably the reason we didn't see much and hopefully, it's just a matter of time before everything gets in order and we get a shot at some offshore action. We'll see.
The gang broke down tackle today and got caught up on sleep that a bouncy ride deprived them of. The crew scrubbed the boat and took care of a few maintenance projects before days end. Our traditional fillet and lobster dinner was served promptly at 1800 hours and a bow was put on the 2011 Beck/Wagstaff party. We had slow fishing for a couple days to start off the trip but we finished up with a bang and all in all, we call this trip a success. We're grateful for the guys being a great group to have on-board regardless of catching fish or not. They are a fun bunch of passengers to hang out with and for that, we thank them. We also thank Joe Beck and Mal Wagstaff for year after year putting together quite the mix of personalities that make this trip an excellent one to start the season out with.
We're heading home in nice weather and we're prepared for a date with docks tomorrow. Our ETA to Fisherman's Landing is 0700 hours Tuesday morning and we'll be back out Thursday night for a day and a half trip. Time to get local. Chat with you then, good night.

One of the most frequently asked questions in the wheelhouse is. “What is a breezer ?” The second photo is a good look at an average size breezer in perfect lighting conditions. The first photo is a look at what is creating the breezer. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend thousands of days on the water with thousands of other people and I have come to the realization that some people can see breezers and some people cannot. Another challenging yet successful trophy hunt for us today. 13 Bluefin Tuna, 2 yellowfin tuna.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 07-05-12
We departed yesterday afternoon on a 1 1/2 day charter we picked up at the last minute so we are a little behind on our reports. When we left the dock with our 4 anglers the outlook was semi promising. There was one boat with 15 of the large bluefin late in the day at 150 miles and signs of 20 to 30 pound fish at 120 miles but it wasn’t biting. We woke this morning to find the ocean flat and calm as could be with spots of breaking 20 to 30 pound bluefin signaling us to stop. And stop we did and where rewarded with a hook up all the way around for every one on deck (all 3). The bottom line on our day was limits of small yellowtail and every one caught a couple of bluefin each except 1 angler only landed one. That’s 20 yellowtail and 7 bluefin, most of which was caught in the afternoon at 120 miles. The gang all had an excellent time and we would like to thank them all. This area has defiantly fallen apart and Drew and the boys will be taking you guys going out tomorrow farther south on your 2 day trip tomorrow so don't be late he will leave as soon as you all get down to the boat and ck in 11:00 am or sooner. The killer bluefin fishing right now is at 250 miles with the upper end being at 180 miles. You guys should be below 180 miles if you can clear the dock buy 12:00. So don't be late. This fishing in the 250 mile zone is insane. The best bluefin fishing in years if want to jump on a 2 to 5 day and target this fish call Susan at the Polaris Supreme office. When we go offshore on these trips we are basically looking for 1 good school. 1 good bluefin school if it’s in the right mode will stick with the boat all day and provide plenty of action. With that being said, today we saw 4 nice schools but only managed to land 1 tuna.
