Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-16-2016 Good afternoon guys. Fishing has been tough these last two days. We didn't end up putting any more fish on the boat after that afternoon report. Knowing the fact that the Yellowfin grounds would be crowded with boats today and not seeing a great sign of biting fish, we decided to rig up the big gear and run down to the trophy Bluefin Tuna grounds. We set up the boat early this morning in an area in which we had multiple schools of big Bluefin on the sonar at one time. We ended up hooking two fish and landing one monstrous 118 pound trophy Bluefin Tuna. Both of these fish were hooked on jigs. The second Bluefin we hooked chewed his way through line and escaped. We will be on the hunt for the big Bluefin for the rest of the day. Mike Pritchard called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're on the 1st day of a 3.5 day trip sponsored by Okuma, Soft Steel & Seeker. So far the fishing has been very good. We have 36 Bluefin for the morning, some Rockfish to go with it even token Cow Cod.

"We have a few spots open on a 5.5 Day trip departing on October 28th. That is an Ultra Limited Load, only 12 anglers & we're looking for 2 more to go on that trip. If you are interested call Seaforth Landing at 619-224-3383.

The San Diego fisnihed with 63 yellowtail and few other odds and ends. A few quick opportunities today.

Tom Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme September 28 following the 10th annual Jeffery Hall charter. He tied up at Fisherman's Landing and weighed the top fish from the five-day trip with 22 anglers. Dick Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga won first place for a 69-pound tuna from Guadalupe Island. He said the fish bit on a sardine and a 4/0 Mustad hook. He used 50-pound Ande line, a TLD 20 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod. "I got him in 15 minutes," said Dick setting up for the punch line. "It was 90 percent skill." Dick's son Tom Langlois of Rancho Cucamonga was second, for a 57-pound tuna, and Kalob Hall of Victorville won third place, for a 45-pound yellowfin tuna.

Covered a lot of water for 6 yellowtail. Saw both bluefin and yellowfin but we’re unable to connect. Getting the lay of the land and putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Back at it tomorrow.

The beat goes on at the Coronado Islands ! Today we caught 38 yellowtail 22 barracuda and 3 kelp bass. Fly lined sardines and surface lures were the best today.

Fishing today was absolutely fantastic. The morning started out slow. We were scratching on the anchor. We thought we were in for another slow day. But we made a move to a new area and had some phenomenal fishing on some nice grade yellowtail. Beautiful average of about 22 lbs or so. We were fishing with a porpoise school and sharks.

Lots of surface iron. Lots of action. Weather is good. Nice and sunny in the afternoon. Tomorrow we'll be be looking for some cow yellowtail.

Well we started in some traditionally tasty grounds today. The weather was magnificent and so was the water we were in. Warm and a beautiful glassy blue. It was also lively as could be. There were birds buzzing around all over, little dabs of dolphin, big herds of dolphin that were "all birded up"(that's code for "looks right"), a dead animal floating,(known for holding lots of dorado),kelp paddies and floating fishing gear buoys(also known for holding mucho dorado and wahoo). Well none of it was holding !@#$. I'm just bummed about it too. We had this area all to ourselves for 3 days in early September with beautiful weather and fishing conditions and it stunk. I can't sugar coat it. We covered a lot of good looking spots for not much fish. It just wasn't there. If I had a time machine I would go back 5 days ago and do it all over again. We would start above and fish our way down instead of starting below and fishing our way north. At least then my stress level wouldn't be high because we'd have fish in our holds. Fishing would be so easy with a time machine. Maybe I shouldn't write such downer reports but my friend Rob on board says he enjoys reading the good with the bad and you know what, this sort of thing happens. Fishing can be good and it can be bad. Oh well but hey, our trip is only half over, we're going to catch a bunch of yellows tomorrow, get some bait, maybe catch some more yellows and some more bait then go and whip on the tuna. Right? I hope so.
