nor cal Fishing Report 2024

Hello everyone, Yesterday we departed on our annual AHI charter. These guys are hyped up for the possibility of Wahoo and the other species that may be in store. So today we are spending the day getting ready for everything that may be thrown at us during the upcoming days. We are excited for tomorrow, Team Supreme

 Well we had some action today.  We fished our wahoo/tuna honey hole.  It wasn't red hot but we made some drifts and caught some fish.  Our last couple schools we saw before lunch didn't react so we took a tour.  We found some tuna a couple hours into the tour.  The bigger ones.  The 25-35 pounders but we weren't ready.  Some were napping or lounging.  It hit us quick.  Everyone that made it out hooked up but it didn't last long.  We got on a couple of more deals after that but they were smaller fish.  12 pounders so we continued on our tour.  We looked for yellowtail in the afternoon but like everywhere right now it seems, there wasn't any current. 
  The weather straightened out for us today.  It was nice again.  We have one day left to fish and we want to do it catching yellowtail.  The elusive yellowtail.  That's usually the fish we don't have trouble finding but we've struck out this trip on them thus far.  We have about 30.  We want more so that's what we'll do.  From where we'll be fishing we can fish until lunch but then we have to hit the road for home.
       
 

Hello Everyone,

Today we started the day trying for Yellowtail and 20-40lb Bluefin Tuna. It was a great start. We had excellent fishing. We had to leave them biting at 9 am. From then on we changed gears to target larger Bluefin Tuna. Around lunch time we found them. Ranging in size from 70-200 lbs, most ranging from 130-150lbs. Most of them bit the kite, but the bait fish that we caught were landed on 100lb flyline with a size 2/0 Gamakatsu Nautilus HD hook. Getting a bite on heavy line required a small strong hook. If the hook was too big then there was a small chance at a bite. If the line was too light then there was a slim chance at landing the fish. It took the perfect combo for fly lineing to get a bite and to land one of these fish.

We will try for these big boys again tomorrow.

The San Diego has finished their three quarter day trip on Monday with 2 Bluefin Tuna (30-40lbs) and 5 Yellowfin Tuna.

The San Diego will be fishing OFFSHORE through FRIDAY 6/17. These trips are limited to 45 people and reservations are required!  Recommended tackle for these trips is a MINIMUM of 50# monofilament for the big Bluefin! Live bait and poppers have been working well.

The El Gato Dos returned from a 3/4 day trip on Sunday with 1 Bluefin Tuna (124lbs) and 1 Yellowfin Tuna.

Good evening everyone, We spent the day traveling up the line through some snotty weather. However it did ease up after dinner. Hopefully we have the makings for a nice night of sleep tonight before our 530 am eta tomorrow morning. This was a tough trip but everyone kept their head up and persisted through and fished hard the entire time. Although we only had a few windows of biting fish we made the most out of it. There were many familiar faces on this charter and many new faces who decided to join us. We enjoyed having all of you out with us and look forward to seeing you out with us net year. Fishing report for the week of sept 16-22. This past week was all about looking thru the binoculars and praying that you find the lucky kelp. Scores for the 3/4 day boats this week have ranged anywhere from 0 to 150 fish. The highlight of our week was a kelp we found on Thursday which kicked out 44 nice size dorado and 100 yellowtail. On Friday we caught our first yellowfin tuna of the season. This season is showing no signs of slowing down so make those reservations and come on down.

Mike Pritchad called in with this report for the Tribute. "We're just wrapping up our 2.5 Day trip. We have had absolutely fabulous fishing. We caught limits of Yellowtail, 6 Skipjack, 5 Dorado, 69 Yellowfin tuna, & 110 Bluefin. It looks like there is more Yellowfin tuna coming up the line.

Hey everybody. More of the same today. Lots of sanding and grinding as we prepare for painting next week. The five of us have worked from 0700 hours until 1600 hours for the past two days and the weekend forecast calls for more of the same. No rest for the wicked, I guess. Anyhow, I'll update you all with some photos this weekend and you can see just a glimpse of what we've been up to.

Injury of the day: Boat-work always has a high level of danger involved, especially with being twenty feet in the air, scaffolding surrounding the boat, electrical chords running wild and very dangerous equipment in our hands. It's a very stressful situation and accidents do happen and today, one did. Jed got stung by a bee.
