nj freshwater Fishing Report 2024

Fishing here remains slow. However the quality of fish is still great, and we are capitalizing on the fish we are hooking. Still some losses due to sharks but still chipping away at some great quality tuna. We were able to make a tank of Tube Mackerel tonight along with 3 milk crates of chunk. We are looking ready for tomorrow!

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with a Coronado Islands update! We are wrapping up our trip at the Islands. We have 16 anglers and we have LIMITS of Yellowtail. The water temp have come up 4 degrees. Very good surface iron fishing and fly-lined bait too. If you are going to join us please bring a Passport. If you do not have a passport please call the San Diego Passport Agency and they can get you a passport in 24 hours. Come on down and join us!

We just received word from the county that we are clear to go fishing starting tomorrow We will be fishing offshore for tuna and yellowtail. Please bring a 25 lb bait rod a 40 or 50 lb bait rod and a then a setup capable of landing a 100+ pound fish. Assorted circle hooks and some fluorocarbon. Some Shimano Flatfalls are always a good call. Call Seaforth at 619-224-3383. First come first serve. (30 pass max)

July 11
 The morning started off so promisingly. We had plans to haul butt down to the lower grounds where there had been some good kelping but we got stopped short. The setup was epic. We had a 1-2 degree water temp break, and we were instantly catching fish. They were mostly small yellowfin. There was a sprinkling of 15-20+ pound tuna in there but most were throwbacks. But it felt like the school of straight bigs was right off the bow. We found a nice kelp and caught a dozen nice yellows and some more of that small tuna with a sprinkle, and again, we felt like it was soon coming. It never came. We stayed very busy but unfortunately it was mostly that throwback yellowfin. Eventually we gave up on what we thought was our honey hole and we never found much else the rest of the day. The lower zone produced enough for the couple boats that were down there so we're going to start down there tomorrow.

 

 

 

The weather was great most of the day. It got a bit breezy late but hopefully that comes down tomorrow.

We are still seeing plenty of yellowtail at the Coronado Islands. Our counts for the past week have been anywhere from 3 to 48 yellowtail per trip. It seems like if you get around the right school at the right time they will bite. We have seen schools at just about every spot at the islands. Today we went out with 28 passengers and caught 12 yellows. The biggest fish today was a 36 pounder caught on a fly lined sardine. Most of our fish have been in the 20 pound class and have been taken on fly lined sardines on 25 lb. and yo-yo jigs on 40 lb. The weather has been absolutely perfect. We are running everyday. A slow morning, a productive afternoon. We gave Benitos Island a thorough check for not much to show for. Same old looking at fish that won't bite. We made the run down to Cedros for the afternoon. We eventually found the jumbo size yellows and fished them till almost dark before it shut off. We're going to run up tonight to fish dorados and yellows and tuna in the morning. It's steak night tonight and they're calling. See ya.

The day started well. We found a school right after daylight and had a couple good stops on 40 up to 145 pound tuna. The rest of the day stunk besides the weather. We found virtually nothing. When the sun went down I was giving up the hope of an evening shot but right as I had the towel in mid air I snatched it before it hit the ground. We found our late shot. W.F.O. some would say. The bite lasted well into dark. A definite day saver. Let's do it again tomorrow.
