Good evening. We just finished up our day out here on the Bluefin grounds and the people are downstairs enjoying dinner and a shower right now. It was looking pretty sad there for a while there but just in the last few hours, we managed to salvage our day and made an afternoon of it.

Up until around the late afternoon time, we just got bits and pieces and right around our afternoon snack time, we got on a legitimate school and had a couple hour drift on 25-60 lb. shortfins and a few nice Yellowtail as well. Just before dark, we found a couple of other schools and we managed to pick off a few fish to round out the day.

So we're pumped up about our afternoon delight and The Mustache (Drew) has decided to stick it out here for another day based on what went on in the afternoon. We weren't the only boat to have schools float in the afternoon either. All the boats out here had the ocean come alive and it was a decent spread of guys out here in all different areas. With that, we're banking on these fish getting with it tomorrow, hopefully sooner rather than later. We'll see.

So that is all. Our weather is decent at the moment but all in all, it was a freaky weather day. At times today, we had 5 knots of breeze and at times we had gusts of 40 knots, no smoke. The sea conditions weren't all that bad but the wind was variable to say the least. With a favorable forecast for tomorrow, we're hoping for a banner day. Wish us luck, good night.

Good evening everyone, Today we spent the day, crimping, cutting, wiring, and simply enjoying the ride down the line. Sun in the sky, low winds, and great company. What more can you ask for! We have Wahoo in our sights for tomorrow morning and are making great speed traveling down. We should arrive early tomorrow morning to begin trying for these fish. The Tribute finished yesterday with 57 Yellowfin Tuna and 28 Bluefin Tuna for our 20 Angler’s on board. It was ridiculously nice weather!

The Ranta Charter started off fishing yellowfin tuna with a decent little score on school sized fish ranging from 10-20 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on the flylined sardine with 30 pound test and a 2/0 hook. We also had as handful of troll fish that came off of green and black zuker feathers. The next day we sought after some quality yellowtail between 20 and 30 pounds. Sadly, these fish didn't show like we hoped they would have. We saw a couple small schools of fish that came up and boiled in the chum, but nothing would stick with the boat. Fish were being caught on flylined sardine, yo-yo jigs, and everyone's favorite technique, the surface iron. We managed to pick away at some of these fish in the morning before calling it quits and moving on in search of a better bite. After hearing reports of the yellowfin bite picking up, We decided to make a run to the grounds to get in on the action. We arrived mid-morning with high expectations, as a couple other boats in the area had some big scores off big schools of yellowfin. It didn't take long for our dreams to turn to reality as a four way trolling hookup turned into a wide open bite. They were biting anything that was thrown in the water for a solid hour until most of the passengers had their fill pulling on these tuna, that averaged 15 pounds. We had a couple more stops for not as much success before pointing the boat towards something new. The last day of fishing was spent offshore looking for kelps, but dirty water and 20 mph winds made it hard kelp finding conditions/ However, we managed to pick up a few nice Dorado as well as a couple more yellowfin to add to our total. This was a great trip with some awesome people, a couple a which had their first experience out here fishing saltwater. Drove out to the honey hole and immediately saw fish. After drifting for a couple hours it became obvious that today was a different day. We had plenty of tuna around us but unfortunately they never reached the aggression level we wanted. We ended with 24 yellowfin tuna.

Skipper Drew Henderson took a look at the San Benitos Islands on a four-day Polaris Supreme trip with 24 anglers. He arrived in the afternoon to find fair to good fishing and some seals that were hungry but not ravenous. He said his anglers got yellowtail there up to 30 pounds. Next day he fished at Cedros Island.
"We got 80 big ones there," he said, "at the South End." Eric Thomas of Palmdale won first place for a 46.8-pound yellowtail. He bagged it with a sardine on a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook and 50-pound Big Game Line. Thomas fished with a Trinidad 40 reel and a Calstar 6460 H rod. He said he got the big ‚Дтtail in 15 minutes.
Shannon Nutt of Palmdale was second for a 37.8-pounder, and Edward Agadjanian of Glendale, home of Newell reels, said he used a Newell reel to take his third place 34.8-pound yellowtail.

Guadalupe Shoulder mount!

Today we departed on a 5 day Guadalupe Island trip. We got a very early jump and are loaded up with a great load of bait. We are all excited to get fishing and are hoping we do not encounter too many of these Guadalupe Shoulder mounts, courtesy of the resident sharks.

Skipper Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme July 13 after a three-day trip with 23 anglers. "There's good sign of fish down to at least 150 miles," he said. "The ocean is nice, and about 67.3 degrees." Don Todd of Sun Valley won first place on the trip for his 37.8-pound albacore. He said it grabbed a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and 30-pound P-Line on a Penn 555 reel and a seven-foot rod. "That fish made my day," said Don. "It felt good!" Sam Ferarelli of Los Alamitos got a 34-pound albacore and Dennis McNeely of Santa Cruz found a 33.6-pounder for second and third places.
