Larry Brown chartermastered the ten-day 976 TUNA Catch & Release Fundraiser aboard the Polaris Supreme that returned November 7, and he won second place in the jackpot to boot. Owner-skipper Tom Rothery handled the helm. "We released 352 fish," said Larry at Fisherman's Landing. On November 1, he posted this: "This is a two-day report, as we didn't have much fun yesterday. They call it a fishing trip, not a catching trip, for a good reason. Yesterday we had one of those inevitable days of fishing and catching a lot, but it was poor quality and most all fish where released. It makes you appreciate those other wide open days on quality fish. Today we struggled again in the morning until Tommy found the area with the good water. We had a great afternoon with epic, limit style dorado fishing on beautiful grade flat heads. Even though the quality was fantastic we released 85% of the fish we caught providing us with good Karma which came in the form of wahoo. Weeding through the dodos was a challenge, but we managed to score a decent catch of these great eating speedsters." At the weigh-in, Phillip Smith of Sebastian, FL showed off a dorado he caught on a sardine and 20-pound spinning tackle. Alex Bravo of San Diego won first place in the Supreme's jackpot, for a chunky 73.8-pound wahoo. He said he bagged it with a gold and purple Burns Bob, on 40-pound Ande line, a Trinidad 30 reel and a Penn Sabre six and a half-foot rod. "We had a jig strike, and this one bit on the slide," said Bravo. "He almost spooled me. He had me down to 12 wraps of line on the reel." Larry Brown of Playa del Rey was second, for a 48.9-pound ‚Дтhoo that he got with a Tady 9 jig in blue and chrome. John Quick of Alamdeda was third, for a 47.6-pound skinny that ate a blue, red and purple Burns Bomb. Karl Bornemann of Hemet stood in with the group with his 35-pound dorado.

Aug. 20
    Another fantastic day out here for us.  We had a great nights sleep.  The boat just gently rocked us to sleep just like a baby.  We tried for a gray bite but only caught one.  It didn't take long looking for a school before we found one.  We short stopped 15 yellowfin and then it didn't take long to find another deal and that one was good for a 2 hour drift.  When that dried up it didn't take long to find another one and that one was good for a 2 1/2 hour drift.  After that it was lunch time and we're pretty much done with the yellowfin.  We spent the last half of the day looking for bluefin unsuccessfully.  We're going to head for some new grounds.  And by that I mean some water I can't remember ever fishing in.  We have reports of some bluefin schools so we're going to check it out.  We'll be there first thing.  I'll let you know.

    The weather today got interesting.  It stayed pretty much windless through out the day so it remained similar to a lake, but around 9:00 in the AM it started dumping rain on us.  And I mean dumping.  Everyone on board scrambled for there rain gear.  I got to try out my new Aftco raincoat and it worked great.  During the down pour the lightning that was around got pretty darn close so I had everyone go indoors to wait it out.  It didn't take long to pass and we continued fishing and catching.  After that it stayed dry the rest of the day.  The boat got a nice fresh water rinse.
                                    

 

Mike Pritchard called in with this update for the Tribute. "The great fishing we had this morning, did continue on. We've had very good fishing. We've caught limits of Yellowtail, limits of Yellowfin tuna and we had a nice Dorado lunch. The weather has been nice, but there is a light breeze. The Yellowfin really loved the surface lures.

"We'll be back out tomorrow night on another 1.5 Day trip. See you on the water."

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-23 to 25-2019 We arrive this morning from our three day trip. We left last Sunday with very high expectations. Only to get them crushed over the next three days. There had been a week straight of fantastic yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna fishing. It all came tumbling down on Sunday. We definitely hit things on the backside at the very bottom of the bell curve. We managed to scratch up a few nice tuna after getting an early start out on Sunday but all the big hits came that morning. Monday we were able to find one school of good grade yellowfin tuna that stayed with us a while that gave us hopes for the rest of the day being good fishing. It didn't turn out that way though we only picked up another handful of fish throughout of long day of searching. Tuesday we had plenty of action but it was mostly on skipjack in the morning with a mix of smaller grade yellowfin tuna. We hammered out the day until dark with not much luck. As we all know It makes a huge difference on timing when you get out to the fishing grounds we just missed it by a few days. We had a great group of anglers that stuck with us Trying hard all throughout the three days. Things definitely slowed down today! You can tell it's on the downswing. If a guy works at it though he could put together a day if you stay with it! Took off from the island heading to Ensenada early and our weather is definitely snotty to say the least! Should be in late tomorrow afternoon Friday, and on time into San Diego on Saturday morning. Looking forward to having Vernon and the boys out on their annual five-day charter to Guadalupe Island! Don't have much more to say just hanging on trying to stay in my chair and not fly out of the wheelhouse.

From 8:00 am till 4:00 pm we were either stopped on bluefin or driving towards jumping bluefin. When we pumped out the RSW we had 17 bluefin and 2 yellowtail. Flylined sardines on 25-40 lb with a size 2-2/0 bait hook was the top producer.

Hello Everyone, Today we had an nice hit on Wahoo. They were big beautiful fish. We managed to get everyone a Wahoo. Along with Wahoo we had some nice Dorado, Tuna, and even a Pargo mixed in. The conditions are really looking up around here! We will be working up trying for Yellowtail Tomorrow. Wish us luck, Team Supreme P.S. Tommy Rothery tied up his Polaris Supreme after the Eric Rogger five-day charter. Rothery weighed the fish while Bill Roecker interviewed chartermaster Rogger near the scales. "Tommy burned a lot of fuel looking around," said Eric. "We got some real quality yellowtail." A sardine on the dropper loop enticed the first-place fish for Gil Suizo of Chatsworth, who reeled it in after a ten-minute scrap. "He fought hard," said Gil. "I sweat a bit bringing him in; there were lots of seals around." Gil said he used a ringed 4/0 super Mutu hook, 50-pound P-Line, an Avet SX-2 reel and a Calstar 660 rod. Dan Hendrickson of Chatsworth took second place for a 34-pounder, and Phillip Bruce of Ramona got a 32.2-pound yellowtail that was good for third place.
