Larry Brown chartermastered the ten-day 976 TUNA Catch & Release Fundraiser aboard the Polaris Supreme that returned November 7, and he won second place in the jackpot to boot. Owner-skipper Tom Rothery handled the helm. "We released 352 fish," said Larry at Fisherman's Landing. On November 1, he posted this: "This is a two-day report, as we didn't have much fun yesterday. They call it a fishing trip, not a catching trip, for a good reason. Yesterday we had one of those inevitable days of fishing and catching a lot, but it was poor quality and most all fish where released. It makes you appreciate those other wide open days on quality fish. Today we struggled again in the morning until Tommy found the area with the good water. We had a great afternoon with epic, limit style dorado fishing on beautiful grade flat heads. Even though the quality was fantastic we released 85% of the fish we caught providing us with good Karma which came in the form of wahoo. Weeding through the dodos was a challenge, but we managed to score a decent catch of these great eating speedsters." At the weigh-in, Phillip Smith of Sebastian, FL showed off a dorado he caught on a sardine and 20-pound spinning tackle. Alex Bravo of San Diego won first place in the Supreme's jackpot, for a chunky 73.8-pound wahoo. He said he bagged it with a gold and purple Burns Bob, on 40-pound Ande line, a Trinidad 30 reel and a Penn Sabre six and a half-foot rod. "We had a jig strike, and this one bit on the slide," said Bravo. "He almost spooled me. He had me down to 12 wraps of line on the reel." Larry Brown of Playa del Rey was second, for a 48.9-pound ‚Дтhoo that he got with a Tady 9 jig in blue and chrome. John Quick of Alamdeda was third, for a 47.6-pound skinny that ate a blue, red and purple Burns Bomb. Karl Bornemann of Hemet stood in with the group with his 35-pound dorado.

After another slow day offshore. We have decided to make Monday and Tuesday an island trip. We will be targeting yellowtail, kelp bass, barracuda and we even heard of a bluefin sighting today. Summer island tackle consists of a 25 lb bait rod, a 40 lb yo-yo rod, your favorite jig stick and your favorite kelp bass rod. Passports are required. Reservations are light but both trips are a definite go.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-26-2019 Good afternoon everyone I hope you guys had a great day like we did! Our weather was absolutely slick flat calm all day. I am afraid we're going to have to pay for this later on though. The usual rigging eating sleeping went on throughout the whole day here. Larry Brown chartermastered a 976 TUNA father-son five-day trip aboard Polaris Supreme with skipper Drew Henderson. The expedition returned to Fisherman's Landing June 21. The trip produced a remarkable catch of yellowtail that included some halibut, three bluefin and two albacore.
Brown said the yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island was excellent, though seals created some problems. "The weather was good except the wind came up on the last day, when we fished outside," he said.

The jackpot lineup was most unusual: an opah, a white seabass and a yellowtail. Mark Taylor of Jamul got the first-place, 67.2-pound moonfish or opah, on a sardine-colored Mega Bait jig, with 40-pound Big Game line on a Trinidad 30 reel and a Seeker 6470 Black Steel rod.
Rick Parks of Watsonville won second place for a 54.6-pound white seabass that took his sardine on a dropper loop. Alex Bravo of San Diego won third place for a 47.2-pound yellowtail.
The kid's jackpot featured two yellowtail bracketing a bluefin tuna. Alex Bravo Jr. of San Diego, 14, won first place for a 42.6-pound yellow. Sydney Mack, 10, (whose dad Dave works on the boat) caught a 32.8-pound bluefin tuna. David Jacobsen, 10, got a 32-pound yellowtail.

The fishing out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego is already great and is ready to explode as water conditions improve and temperatures increase. The new Seaforth Landing buildings and parking lot are almost ready to roll and things are looking really good!!! Congratulations to everyone at Seaforth !! Great Job !!! I was lucky enough to fish with Captains Bob Williams and Bryan Winn for a 3/4 day trip aboard the Seawatch to the beautiful Coronado Islands. We limited out on 3-6 pound bonito by 10am in wide open fishing not far off the coast. Captains Bob and Bryan than steered us to the Coronado Island for a shot at some big island yellowtail. Not long after dropping anchor yours truly hooked and landed a nice yellow on a dropped looped chovy. Way to go Kidd !! We hooked a bunch of yellows on sardines, anchovies and iron, landing some and loosing others to reel screaming runs to the rocks. The highlight came when young Chris "Don't call me Littleman anymore" Robinson hooked, battled and landed a nice 20 lb Coronado Island Yellowtail. Awesome job Chris !!! We ended the day with 10 nice yellows from 13- 28 lbs led by Mark Nahabedians' 28 pounder that he nailed on Salas blue and white iron. Captains Bob, Bryan and crew did an awesome kob putting us on the fish. We were the high count boat out of all the 3/4 day boats fishing the Islands. Great Job Guys !!! Hello good friends and happy Friday to all of you. A short day for us as we only had a few minor jobs to wrap up. We completed the final sanding of the hull and with a slight change of plans to the inside bulwarks, we had to sand the entire inside of the boat but only the stern section from gate to gate. So now the entire outside of the hull, the inside of the bulwarks from the boarding gates aft, and spots forward of the gates are ready to go for the gloss coat. It only took us a couple of hours to square everything away and with a much needed freshwater rinse and cleaning up, our day was complete and we started the weekend off early. Also this morning, the propellers, shafts, and rudders were put back in and on Monday, the painters will be suiting up and applying the gloss coat. Man, what a fantastic day that will be. Not only for the boat but for us as well. Painting days mean very short days for the crew, so it's pretty much a three-day weekend for us and with the NBA Playoffs starting on Saturday, the weekend is going to be a good one. With that said, it's pretty much all downhill from here (knock on wood).

Our haul-out will be about half-complete with the major sanding and painting being finished on Monday. After that, it's on to the bait tank for our next painting project. We still have to sand our mahogany rails, drill and replace the zincs, and a few other jobs to complete and hopefully, we'll be back in the water sometime next week. It's a good thing we got into the boatyard early this year as it's starting to get a little bit crowded down there. Along with a couple of naval vessels, tug boats, commercial fishing boats and some private yachts, the long-range fleet is starting to make their way onto the blocks. With the Red Rooster III splashing down this morning after their stay at Knight & Carver, the Spirit of Adventure and Qualifier 105 were hauled out as well and the Searcher expected to be with us sometime in the next few days, it'll be nice to get back home and finish things up back at the docks. Just like our longer trips in the fall/winter, it's always a relief to arrive back to our slip at Fisherman's Landing. It's also special to tie back up to the docks because that means Mitch's Seafood for lunch a few days a week. Can't beat that.
