We're on our way home after an absolutely great day of fishing," said Mike Pritchard. "We ended up with 136 Bluefin tuna, 8 Dorado, 6 Yellowtail and 50 Skipjack. It was very, very good fishing for a 1 Day trip.

We had a nice afternoon hooking fish landing was okay lot of tackle failures
and losses to the sharks! But we still managed to put a nice afternoon
together. It's absolutely a beautiful grade of fish! Most of the anglers
hooked for five of these fish! We are having to fish the 30 and 40 lb. test
to get a bite here. Not ideal for getting the larger Tuna away from the
sharks. Hopefully they bite heaver line tomorrow!
 

Nov. 11

After our previous day of wide open fishing - we had high hopes of the same on giant yellow fin tuna. The day started with Captain Tommy identifying sonar readings of big schools of tuna all around us. We fished hard all day. Kites, sinker rigs, fly line, chunked, jigged, drifted and anchored. Tommy calling out the sonar readings the whole time, ", "big tuna at 20 fathoms" or "we are surrounded by school tuna 10 fathoms to 30 fathoms". We began to doubt Tommy's sonar and guessed that it was just a screen saver image. Then, in the late afternoon, tuna started flying out of the water all around us for a 1/4 mile. 100 lb to 300 lb tuna fully coming out of water and giving us a show and taunting us once more. At the end of the day Greg, Matt and Rick caught larger tuna and kept us from getting skunked. We flushed the stomachs of the tuna and found them stuffed with pelagic crabs. The sardines, mackerel and flying fish we offered were not on their menu. We hear of a place up the line where the yellow tail are biting. We are going there now.

Today’s charter group had a great time catching 5 yellowtail, 30 calico bass and plenty of shallow water bottomfish. However, 5 yellowtail is not going to pay the bills for an open party run. Tomorrow and Tuesday we will be fishing offshore targeting Tuna, yellowtail and mahi mahi. Come prepared with a variety of line sizes from 20-60 lb. might want to bring a popper or a colt sniper rod as well. No Passports required.

We got a little bit of something throughout the whole day. Everywhere we went we got yellowtail, but no real bug hits. Our morning bite had great quality but not as many as yesterday. Our weather is still good because of the island. Tomorrow we will be in open water on patties looking for dorado, tuna and yellowtail. Great fresh yellowtail and shrimp scampi for dinner. Good evening everyone. We raced down throughout the night and into the morning time to arrive to our desired location in the late morning. It took us a while to get things figured out and at around 1030 hours, we saw them, stopped the boat, and like a light-switch (get it San Diego?), things lit up and the corner came alive. Bluefin tuna rushed the stern getting so close that Jed was mere inches from free-gaffing one. They were as hungry as we've ever seen Bluefin and for the short time frame that the fish popped up, we took full advantage of it as our group did work on the Bluefin, a few handfuls of Yellowfin, and a Dorado. For a while there, the whole boat was bent over on tuna. Every bait on the corner resulted in a tuna, easy fishing. We picked away at them one, two at a time after our rush until things dried up, and that was pretty much our day as we drove around trying to locate something fresh. The fish seemed to get lock-jaw towards the end of the day for us but we were still beaming about our mid-morning stop. Other boats in the area had the same type of deals, some more than others, but all in all, it was a good day down here at the trusty Bluefin/Yellowfin grounds. No shortage of fish around here, that is for certain.

So we're headed up the line in nice weather. A little bit of swell but the wind that slapped us in the faces this morning has vanished. Hardly a white-cap out here, beautiful weather and the forecast shows more of the same coming up for out 2 day trip leaving tomorrow afternoon. There are a couple spots still open so call Susan at (619) 390-7890 to book a spot. We'll be departing at 1:00 pm, traveling all day and night to the tuna grounds to arrive in the very early morning hours, fish all day until dark, and then arrive the next morning. The general opinion on this fish is that they will float this evening so we'll have a full day down here to get them located. We're excited about the prospects so give Susan a call ASAP. We'll arrive to the docks tomorrow morning around 0800 hours. Take care.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-18-2019 Another good day on the tuna, scratched up a few nice Wahoo and threw in some beautiful grouper to go with it. Overall a very satisfying and complete day! The weather kind of sucked the first half of the day but was good the second half! Weird squally weather this trip more drizzle and rain. Everybody's having a great time looking forward to tomorrow our last full day of fishing down south! Oh yeah almost forgot Wahoo enchiladas for dinner this evening! They were absolutely screaming! The Polaris Supreme Crew!

"Today was another great day of bluefin fishing," wrote Polaris Supreme skipper Drew Henderson June 24. "We found the first school at 6:30 in the morning and we plunked on it again for 5 hours. Plenty of fish came aboard but again the landing ratio was a bit poor. It's a war zone with all the net boats out there. They drive 100 feet from your boat at 15 knots to get at your school."

At Fisherman's Landing June 26, Drew said, "We got rained on a bit yesterday." He weighed the fish, and the hands-down first-place winner was Harv Domsalla of Douglas, WY, with a 73-pound bluefin that came out of a school of albacore. It beat Domsalla up for 45 minutes.

"He kept making runs," said Harv. "I credit the crew for helping me get it aboard. I'm a novice. The other anglers helped a lot, too, by moving out of the way while he waltzed me around the boat about four times."

Harv said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook, with an outfit borrowed from the boat: 30-pound P-Line, a TLD 15 reel and a six-foot rod.

Harry Harms was second, for a 38-pound bluefin, and Bruce Burton of Wildomar won third place for a 37-pound bluefin tuna.
