modesto bee Fishing Report 2024

Captain Ryan Bostian called in late last night with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. We have been fishing offshore the last four trips. Four days ago we had 44 Yellowfin Tuna Then we had 27 Yellowfin Tuna Yesterday we had 7 Yellowfin Tuna Then today we had 44 Yellowfin Tuna Decent fishing. There is a lot of fish around. What is working 20 pound mono with 20 fluro. We also recommend having a a 30 or 40 pound outfit ready to go also. We are using size one or two live bait hooks, small poppers and flat fall jigs are also working. We are scheduled fishing Offshore tomorrow and Wednesday. Then we have 3 charters in a row but will be back OPEN PARTY .

 Yesterday morning I was looking at the positions and forecasts of positions and conditions of hurricane Odile and it sure looked to me like we'd be able to go around it that night.  So after consulting with Tommy, he did some research and he agreed.  And by dark yesterday I was 95 percent sure we could do it.  Not enough.  We need 100 percent out here.  So we headed straight west most of the night until I got an update on the storm at 2:00 am which made me 100 percent sure we could easily make it around the storm.  So we hung a left and we've been traveling all day heading for Alijos Rocks.  We had some choppy weather this morning but we couldn't tell by our ride because we were going with it.  Down swell = a good ride.  The weather is nice now that I write this and we're expecting the same the next few days at least.

 We usually expect a couple travel days on an 8 day trip and today was one of ours.  We did try really hard though to find a nice big dorado kelp but we were unsuccessful.  The only kelps we found weren't big enough to hold a school of mahi.  So we'll have to do it tomorrow or the next day.  Or the next, OK.  We'll be concentrating on wahoo first thing tomorrow. We'll be saying our wahoo prayers tonight.  I'll check back later.

ood evening everyone, Today we started in search of Yellowfin Tuna. It seemed that the past days have been a grind for those who have committed to this area. So we woke up today ready to grind. Fortunately we found a school early that wanted to play. So with the ball in our court we were really to put the wood to these school sized fish that were eagerly pouring aboard Polaris Supreme. Absolute chaos to start the day, a perfect way to follow two days of premium yellowtail fishing. We kept at it, getting good scores on these tuna to join the yellows that were chilling in our frigid holds. Eventually we did have to point the boat towards home and call it a trip, but what a way to end! I would like to thank Ron for putting together this charter and everyone for joining us and putting the screws to these fish when it counted! We will be in San Diego tomorrow dark and early at 5:30 to offload the bounty and come out for another. Until next time, Team Supreme

"Today we went offshore you know we have some political stuff going on at the Coronado Islands," said Ryan Bostian captain of the San Diego. "So we are fishing offshore for the time being. It looks like our timing was pretty darn good. Today we went out there and caught 15 Bluefin tuna and 13 Yellowtail. It's nice to be able to go out there on a 5:30 to 5:00 trip and catch exotics like Bluefin tuna. We had one really good shot at them. They were boiling on the corner.

"Most of our group today were beginner fishermen. If you are looking to join us for some offshore fishing our next Open Party trip is next Thursday. This Thursday we will be fishing Open Party, we will be on out offshore schedule. That means a 5:30 to 7:00 trip. The ticket price is $115 which includes your Mexican fishing license. We saw a good sign of Bluefin tuna. It seemed like every kelp paddy had a few Yellowtail on it, but we're mainly fishing the Bluefin out there. Hi friends. The boat arrived this morning from the Let's Talk Hook-Up 4-day trip this morning at 0830 hours and by 1200 hours, we shoved off the docks with Joe Beck and friends for the annual Bob Vance/Joe Beck 5-day trip. Big fish honors from last trip went to Rudy V. with a 50.2 lb. yellowfin tuna. Way to go, Rudy. Way to give a hundred and ten percent. Anyhow, we cleared the point this afternoon with a load of bait that looks like a sardine civil war broke out a few days prior and we're transporting the wounded to a secure location to be euthanized. Ugh. We'll be closely monitoring their health and we'll see how they swim throughout the trip. For now, it's still alive. Yaaay! To quote deckhand Jed Scott, "It is what it is."

So that is all. We'll be on the hunt for tuna and other various kelp related species of size for day one of the trip. We'll be in the zone at first light and we'll report back to you tomorrow. Later.

Hello Everyone, Today we spent the afternoon looking for this northern tuna. We were able to find a few schools and random fish marks that did not want to bite and only equated to only a hand full of strikes. After an afternoon of trying until the early evening we eventually had to call it a trip and start heading up to San Diego. We would like to thank Mark Costello for both spending his birthday with us and putting together another great charter! We cant wait till next year! our ETA is 5 am tomorrow. Team Supreme
