middle chesapeake bay Fishing Report 2025

We have to fill this Oct 5-day. All season long I here everyone asking how they can get on one of our 10 passenger Guadelupe trips. Well here it is. I have 2 spots open on what is really a 5.5 day trip to Guadelupe with only 10 people on the Apollo. The trip departs on the morning of Oct 1rst at 9am. and returns mid morning on the 6th. $1800 covers all meals and permits. This trip is a charter and if you are a part of it now chances are you'll be invited on many other trips with this group in the future. Fishing is very technical now. Lots of Tuna but mainly being hooked with a well placed cast in a Tuna foamer. 

They are mainly biting surface lures.

Including:

Colt sniper stick baits 

Poppers 

Colt sniper jigs 

Tady 45 or Salas 7x surface irons 

Be ready to cast and be ready for action.

 Today was a bit on the slower side.  Until the end but I'll get to that.  We woke up in hopes of getting a sea bass bite going but that was only a fairy tale.  We got a few yellows is all.  After, we made some grouper drifts and caught some more of those Broomtail Groupers.  Something like 4 or 5 of them along with some calico bass and yellows while we drifted along.  And for the rest of the day we pretty much hung out in the lee of the island and drifted here and there and caught a handful of yellowtail here and there.

 Like I said, we fished the lee today.  No wind for us.  It was lovely.  We had plans for dinner at 7:30, so at 7:00 i hopped in the shower to get cleaned up because I was serving, and while I was in there, I heard some cheering, and then again some hooting and hollering hen I was getting out.  It turns out the first round of cheers came because of a nice sea bass they brought in.  The second was for a yellowfin tuna that was landed.  I went down and got the tables set and while I was doing this they kept catching yellowtail, tuna and seabass.  After we made first call we had a whopping 1 person come in to eat.  Team galley understood though.  We knew that there may possibly be no fishing time for the next day due to bad weather running up the line.  So we kept catching fish and one by one, passengers would come in and scarf down some dinner, which was a lovely meatloaf that was fantastic, and then go back out and catch some more fish. 

 This lasted until after 9:00 and then we took off.  We ended the stop with 30 yellowtail, 5 white seabass up to about 40 pounds, and something like 6 or 7 on the tunas. We prepared the deck for a rough ride home, and set sail toward the beach  to try and improve our conditions.  The swells always less on the coast rather than offshore.  I doubt we'll have any time to fish tomorrow.  Travel day.
      

Conditions at the islands are improving very fast. We saw a couple of schools of yellowtail today and landed one. Excellent red fishing on some well rested stones.

Hello everyone, Today was spent traveling up. A great ride to end a great trip filled with a variety of fish. We would like to thank Billy Stephens for putting together such a great charter! Nov. 19

Good evening once again everyone. Well, we broke up the day this morning with a couple hours worth of fishing. Unfortunately we didn't catch much but we were due to travel all day today but we had an hour or two to spare so we took it. The weather has breezed up for sure. It is a bit of a bumpy ride but it's not horrable. We only had one other day of windy weather the whole trip so we'll take it. In a whole it was a rather slow trip. We did catch a lot of big beautiful dorado and we can't complain at all about the amount of wahoo we caught or the amount of tuna we caught either for that matter. We lacked on the larger sized tuna and we didn't connect with the yellowtails on the way home either but hey, you've heard this before, "that's fishing". I hope and I think I can speak for everyone on board and say we had a great ten days out here. I said it in my first report and I'll say it again, I love this group. This is not your mystery passenger Ed writing to you but your captain/ co-captain/ deckhand Drew writing this and I'll write this on behalf of all the crew members abourd the Polaris Supreme, thank you charter heads Lon and John and thank you to all who joined us.

I would also just like to thank all who came out fishing with us this year and in years past. You are what allows us to do what we love to do and what allows us to pay our bills and raise families doing what we love to do so unfortunately, for the last time this year, we all say THANK YOU and we'll hopefully see you next year!

Today we spent the day trying for Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna. It was a grind but we were able to catch some Yellowtail, great grade Tuna, and some Wahoo. Not the red hot bite that we were hoping for but still a good time none the less. We also had to make bait tonight. It went great. Lots of mackerel came aboard and we have plenty to fish with. We will try it again tomorrow for the hoos and Tuna. Pictured here is Mick with a large Yellowtail and crewmen Jake (the Snake) and Morgan doing some shaking in the wee hours of the morning.

Wow, I think we have to pinch ourselves to make sure it's real. We had an unbelievable day. You could throw a bait in the water any time from day break to dark and catch a tuna. Some anglers released as many as 15 tuna in the 35-45 lb. class. We also scratched a few wahoo. After a delicious dinner of a veal shank, fresh asparagus and red potatoes all our guys and one lady went to bed very tired. Our weather is gorgeous and we are looking forward to another fantastic day tomorrow. Thanks for checking in. Tommy and crew P.S.
