melton hill Fishing Report 2025

We got a little bit of something throughout the whole day. Everywhere we went we got yellowtail, but no real bug hits. Our morning bite had great quality but not as many as yesterday. Our weather is still good because of the island. Tomorrow we will be in open water on patties looking for dorado, tuna and yellowtail. Great fresh yellowtail and shrimp scampi for dinner. Polaris Supreme returned to Fisherman's landing June 4 after her first three-day trip of the new season, with 24 anglers aboard. Yellowtail were plentiful and many were released. Some bluefin tuna of up to nearly 33 pounds were also caught. Owner-skipper Tommy Rothery reported pleasant sea conditions and nice weather.

"We were way down there,below where everybody else is fishing," said Tommy. "It was a little rolly at mid-day. I don't know why."

Rick Yokley of San Diego won first place for a 32.4-pound bluefin.

"He took me around the boat three times," commented Rick. He said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Super Mutu hook, with 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and 65-pound Spectra backing on an Avet MXL 6/4 reel.

John Brown of El Cajon was second, for a 32.2-pound bluefin, and Paul Cheak of Benecia won third place for a 31.4-pound bluefin tuna.

The guys did it again. Another killer day back to back in more jock strap and sun visor weather. Scott released a 150 lb., 165 lb., 185 lb., another 185 lb., 145 lb., 175., and kept a 210 pounder. Bob released a 135 lb., 185 lb., and kept another 220 pounder. Al released a 170 lb., and kept a 215 lb., 170 lb., 165 lb., and 135 pounder. Craig released a 125 lb., 175 lb., 180 lb., and kept a 175 lb., and 180 pounder. Roger kept a 160 lb., 175 lb., and a 180 pounder. Sheridan released a 170 lb., and kept a 180 lb., and 198 pounder. Tom released a 180 lb., 190 lb., 186 lb., another 180 lb., and kept a 165 lb., 185 lb., and 190 pounder. George released a 100 lb., 110 lb., 120 lb., and 160 lb., and he kept a 160 lb., and 170 pounder. Lunch today was chicken breast burger and dinner was steak Neptune. Happy independence day! guys! We finished our day yesterday by continuing to pick away at those larger size yellowtail. Almost all of our anglers ended up with at least one yellowtail and we even had a hand-full of anglers who managed to catch their limit of those larger sized fish. As I'm writing this report, I am seeing quite a few small schools of yellows on the sonar. We are eager to find out what today has in stock for us! Happy Independence Day, Team Supreme

Today we went out on a hunt for the “catchable” grade bluefin. After a couple hours of searching our efforts were rewarded as we landed 13 (50-80 lb) bluefin. Be prepared to fly line with 40 lb as well as fish a sinker rig on 50 or 60 lb. size 1/0 circle hooks on your fly line rod. Size 2/0 or 3/0 on your sinker rig. Always a good idea to bring a 25lb rod just in case we get a yellowfin stop.

87 yellowfin 4 skipjack. A couple lucky stops made our day. Highly recommend having a 20lb rod with size 2 hooks and matching flouro.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in with a wrap up from today's trip. We ended up with a great Yellowtail Kelp. We had 195 fish for our 28 people on this Okuma Sponsored trip. We have an extended 1.5 day trip departing on Friday night. Call Seaforth now at (619) 224-3383 to get in on the action.

Excellent Bluefin Tuna fishing on the limited load Chaparro 3 .5 day. Big ones in the 130lb class and lots in the 20-40lb class as well.
