Aug. 31

Our speed remained slow all of last night and today until we were 10 miles above our destination. We didn't arrive until 3:00 this afternoon. We trolled the place up for a while for no srikes before getting the anchor down. It was great yellowtail fishing but unfortunately the grade wasn't all that great. What we kept was mostly 12-25 pounds but we did alot of releasing to get that. We're going to try a different zone tomorrow. There is still alot of water to be looked at and we're in the beggining half of our trip. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a night bite going tonight. The weather is just dandy out here. Light wind and it's hot. Lots of sunscreen being rubbed on out here.

We are gearing up for our upcoming 7-10 day trips down south. Ready to get our masks on and pull on some fish.

July 17
    Our morning started off hot.  We had some very good tailing for about 1 1/2 hours on the 16-22 pound grade.  We managed to get a few fish per rod in that amount of time frame before things went dead around 8:30.  It's OK, we were expecting that.  We stuck with the plan and looked for yellowfin after that and it wasn't long before we connected.  We had 2 good stops and one great stop on the yellowfin tunas and scattered small stops the rest of the day.  They were a bit on the small side but that's what's around here so we fished them.  After that we drove out of the zone to put ourselves in position for tomorrow and didn't catch much the rest of the day.

    We'll be tailing it again tomorrow looking for the bigguns down below first thing in the morning.  The weather this morning was great.  It got a little windy in the afternoon but it was OK.

We have to fill this Oct 5-day. All season long I here everyone asking how they can get on one of our 10 passenger Guadelupe trips. Well here it is. I have 2 spots open on what is really a 5.5 day trip to Guadelupe with only 10 people on the Apollo. The trip departs on the morning of Oct 1rst at 9am. and returns mid morning on the 6th. $1800 covers all meals and permits. This trip is a charter and if you are a part of it now chances are you'll be invited on many other trips with this group in the future. Pretty good sign of yellowtail for the first few hours in the morning. They were up boiling around good and showing on the machines but we were having trouble getting them to settle with the boat. We'd hook a few here and a whack there but nothing steady. We saw a couple more schools through out the day but it was the same thing. Nothing would settle. It was racing up and down the island. We ended the day 5 fish a rod of the jumbo quality and decided to head up the line to fish albacore the day after tomorrow. We should have good working weather so we're hoping the fish are chewing when we get there.

Fishing today was absolutely fantastic. The morning started out slow. We were scratching on the anchor. We thought we were in for another slow day. But we made a move to a new area and had some phenomenal fishing on some nice grade yellowtail. Beautiful average of about 22 lbs or so. We were fishing with a porpoise school and sharks.

Lots of surface iron. Lots of action. Weather is good. Nice and sunny in the afternoon. Tomorrow we'll be be looking for some cow yellowtail.

Polaris Supreme Trip Update From Oct. 24th To Nov. 1 2012

Oh boy, where to begin? We're finally back on line here today. Our satellite connection way down where we fished doesn't work so until now we couldn't use the phone or send out our daily fish reports. But we're back on line. One week ago today we arrived at the Shamada Seamount just before or after lunch I can't remember, and it didn't take long before we saw a school of the bigguns right where we expected to see them so we didn't waste anytime and threw the anchor over right away, put out the kites and commenced fishing. No cows for us that day but we scratched at some big ones off and on till dark and that was that. No night bites while we were down here but it did start biting in the dark just before sunrise the next couple mornings and thats when we would catch our cows.

Throughout the next few days fishing was off and on depending on the time of day. When it was slow we would pull the anchor and troll for wahoo while dragging the kites behind us skipping rubber flying fish (yum yums) on top of the water. Pretty cool watching the bigguns hit these things. Usually they would miss the first few times but they keep trying until eventually they're hooked. When we weren't pulling on those we were jigging up steady wahoo strikes. When we would see the school of cows again we'd stop and fish them on anchor.

The biggest problem we had was keeping people fishing. When you have a charter with only 10 people it's hard to keep people at the rail so you don't know when the fish are biting because nobody's fishing. They're all chilling with a cocktail, beer and cigar in hands jamming to ipods hanging out. The weather was rough the first day down there and then the wind backed off and it got nice the rest of the trip fishing. We're now traveling home in o.k. weather. It's a little windy but it's a nice ride. We'll gladly take it.

Though we only had a few over 200, most everyone on board got there personal best and lots and lots of wahoo! And that's how I, Drew, remember it. Now I see what kind of editing and additions I get from Tommy. If anything is spelled wrong he wrote it.

Thats About it. Its pretty difficult to play catch up after 8 days. Tommy.
