Jodie called in with this On-the-Water Fish Report for the Apollo. "It looks like we have 40 on the deck. These fish are 30 to 40 lbs and we are fishing at 111 miles.

82 yellowfin 2 bluefin 19 yellowtail. When we stop on a school of tuna every bait that hits the water gets looked at by the fish. If it isn’t presented perfectly they won’t touch it. We highly recommend changing your bait often, the more presentations you make the more likely you are to make a perfect one. 20lb flouro and size 2 hooks are what worked best.

April 17 & 18, 2013

Wednesday (the 17th) we had 10-11 Tuna in the 110-197 lb range and 12 wahoo. This morning we so far we have 8 tuna in the same range as yesterday, and 2 wahoo. Conditions are still good and we are having fun with the kite fishing. Yesterday we had some wind, and today's forecast is to be more, but so far we are having good weather. Hope it keeps up.

Our 80 yellowfin and 34 skipjack did not come easy today. 15 stops on schools that were big enough to catch 500 if they were in the right mood. Beautiful weather and amazing sign of fish.

The Apollo will be running an open party over night trip out of Santa Barbara. This trip will depart on Friday night March 27th at 9pm for fishing Sat. This will be a freelance trip hoping for squid and sea bass, with rock fish. Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an update from The San Diego. We had 144 Yellowfin Tuna and 70 Dorado! The fish were not full speed. It was a pick all day. Light line and small hooks was the ticket. Bring some fluorocarbon. Be sure to call Seaforth Landing at (619) 224-3383 to get in on the action or book online at www.thesandiego.com.

Today was another example of the fact that when targeting Bluefin, we are playing by their rules.  We stopped on fish all day and managed to land 15 fish from 30 to 70 lbs and one 45 lb Yellowfin. Staying at the rail and fishing either a 40 lb flyline rig, a 50 lb colt sniper or sinker rig was the best bet today.  Come out to enjoy the ocean, be prepared with your tackle.  Keep your fingers crossed that you are here when they let their guard down a bit is the name of the game.

A four hour drift, followed by 2 quick stops resulted in 39 bluefin from 30-60 lbs and 28 yellowfin from 20-50 lbs. staying at the rail and fishing either a flyline sardine on 30 or 40 lb. A 60-100 gram colt sniper or flatfall or a 2-4 oz torpedo sinker with a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hooks is the name of the game. Keep em wet !
