OK tired of boat work! Need a little motivation To go out fishing on The Polaris Supreme? We have a 6 Day trip coming up in 2 weeks and it still has 7 openings on it! SUNDAY JUNE 25th. We will be targeting the 50 to 300lb Bluefin that are 10 to 100 miles just out side San Diego as well as all the other usual species. THEY WHERE NOT CAUGHT ON THE POLARIS SUPREME! THAT'S WHY WE NEED YOU ON OUR FIRST TRIP ON THE 25TH! OK now do you want to go fishing! 6 days too long? Hi friends. Well, the morning started out pretty well for us. Got an early wake up from Riddler after an all night freeze in our crew staterooms. The new A/C works too well. We all slept in socks and sweaters and were still freezing. We felt like Sinka in "Cool Runnings" when John Candy throws him in the ice cream truck to simulate what the temperature would be like for their bobsled race. Anyhow, with The Outfields "Use Your Love" stuck in my head, we started hooking some bluefin tunas in the 50 lb. range, give or take a few pounds, and we managed to boat six of those beauties. A good start to our morning but that was it for our day on the BFT. Nice to see 'em, but not a whole lot of substance to it, so we continued on our journey south.

Throughout the day, we stopped on multiple kelp paddies for a few handfuls of quality 14-25 lb. yellows and we even snagged a few 18 lb. yellowfin tuna as well, so that was sweet. We didn't have a banner day by any means but we scratched a decent day out of it and everyone had a shot at a quality offshore gamefish. With that, we didn't see a whole lot to keep us offshore so we'll be heading elsewhere to try and locate some sabas (greenback mackerel) and some yellowtail as well. We'll be in the zone around 23:45 hours and the passengers are downstairs enjoying barbecue ribs, corn, and cherry pie.

Just a quick bit of news before I sign off: fishing in the day and a half range picked up late in the day on bluefin tuna. Good scores for the guys and granted we're further south than those guys, we're keeping our eyes on that developing situation. Be sure to check our schedule as we have a couple of day and a half trips on the schedule.

So that is all. Weather is chilly but the sea state is plenty fine. We'll be at it here in a few hours so we better get some sleep. Take care.

@niicklam with our first tuna of 2021 ! Our season has officially begun !!

 

Hi friends. This morning's action on Yellowfin tuna was just the type of fishing we were looking for. Steady jig strikes and some bait fish to go along with the trollers. One problem; no size. All of the tuna we hooked this morning were successfully released and it was back on the prowl for bigger and better things. We once again found good water conditions but the lack of any sign of pelagic species was somewhat unsettling and we decided to do make the run to the "Numbers" around lunch-time. It took us a while to get the proper deal located and when we did, it was game on for Yellowtail in the 12-20 lb. range. To add some color to our Yellowtail catch, we also caught three Bluefin tuna, a couple of 30 lb. Yellowfin tuna, a handful of Dorado, and Garry Roberts caught a Gold Spotted Sand Bass. Pretty cool looking fish. Anyhow, this group took what they needed from the Yellowtail garden and began just having fun catching and releasing 'tails. I'd estimate that we released well over seventy-five quality Yellows, we even released a good majority of the 20 pounders. I have three highlights from this spot. One; On our way into the spot, two Killer Whales charged the boat and had Drew as excited as I've ever seen about whales. They checked us out for a minute and then were on their way again. Two; We had a Whale Shark get close enough to the boat that I'm sure if we tried, we could've successfully and safely boarded all passengers and crew on top the beast and then return back onto the boat. Simply amazing, humbling creatures. Three; "Big John" Korgy, Fisherman's Landing gate security person re-wrapped my 9'3" Ulua with an all yellow wrap, greenish guide wraps, and a Chiquita banana sticker. I call this gem "the Big Banana" and I brought it down for some of the passengers to test their skills. It was pretty fun watching the guys get their butts handed to them and Jed took some great photos of Mr. Roberts pulling on a Yellowtail with the long rod. I must say thank you to John as the rod is simply stunning. Just an awesome day. Once again the weather was A , with once again having premium bronzing conditions all day with sunshine and a light breeze.

 

To round out our day, a gigantic kelp paddy floated by and with just an hour of daylight left in our busy day, we managed to capture a box-full of beautiful Dorado as the sunset. Great half-day of fishing for us on the Supreme. Tomorrow, we'll be looking for tuna and wahoo and we'll decided our next plan of attack from there. Wish us luck and take care.

We had a slow morning here at the Ridge, but the afternoon provided us with a good bite on the yellowtail up to 30 lbs. The weather is still absolutely beautiful. Those of you that know me, know I never eat breakfast, but I thought I would check it out as I am always reporting on the lunch and dinners. Well breakfast today was a stack of buttermilk pancakes, slab of honey cooked bacon and eggs cooked to your order. I still didn't eat, but the guys all said it was delicious. We have a couple more days here to fish and then we are in on Sunday and departing on South Bay Fish and Tackle's 6-day charter.
There is still one spot on that trip, and a couple on the Sept. 22 if you can get away.

Fishing was slow today. We had a handful of fish weighing in at 70-170 lbs. We are going to make a move and go look for bigger and better. Weather is still beautiful. Dinner was a delicious saut?©ed veal cutlet, pasta and roasted fresh veggies.
