lake vermilion Fishing Report 2025

Capt Ryan checked in last night from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing with a report for yesterdays trip, we went out with 36 anglers. We ended up with 35 Yellowtail, we have had a few days of weather this last week and it dropped the water temperature. We had a lot of novice anglers today who caught their first ever Yellowtail. Everything worked today from dropper loop to surface irons, we caught a few each way today. Things are looking really good right now and it is rebounding nicely, come on down and see us we are running these trips everyday.

Hello everyone, Today we started fishing around 11am. Lots of Yellowtail in the area, the majority of which are very small. However we did manage to pick off some nice 18-30 lbers with some quality Grouper mixed in as well. We are camping out tonight and will try it in the morning before we start looking around. We woke up to jock strap and sun visor weather this morning. Did some rigging and had roast beef in a portabella mushroom sauce for lunch. We had good success acquiring yellowtail and tuna for hors d'oeuvres and proceeded to eat them in the form of sushi and sashimi. Dinner is coming up in a few minutes, halibut in a lemon butter caper sauce. We are going to consolidate our sardines and swing by the bait grounds to pick up a tank of greenies. We will see you tomorrow on the tuna grounds.

The San Diego checked in on March 16, with 25 yellowtail, 6 bonito and  100 rockfish catches.  Yo yo jigs have been the top producer so far but every school has boiled on our chum.Encouraging sign of fish for 1/2 the day today. Couple decent shots on all the popular presentations. We will try again tomorrow.

July 12

Like i said before, we were going to start our morning off tailing. Yellows that is and that's exactly what we did. The fish bit OK for an hour or so. They were mixed grade from 10 all the way up to 20+ pounds. Mid morning we headed offshore and had some pretty steady yellowfin striking. We even got them biting bait for a couple stops. On one we had 22 and the other 13! Those are our best yellowfin stops of the year. We kept heading south throughout the day striking them up but the further south we went the smaller the fish got and the windier the weather got. Around 6:30 we stopped on a jig strike and took a good roller and things went flying so with the small grade of fish we were catching and the unsafe drifting conditions, we called it a day. We're headed to Cedros to do some fishing on those big fat yellowtails we've been catching there and to get out of this weather.

 Well, as promised we left on another trip today.  This one being an LA Rod and Reel Club long range 2 day trip.  We got a nice jump on things.  We were done getting bait and leaving the harbor by 11:00 this morning which allowed us to get to the tuna grounds by 5:00 this evening which allowed us to find a school of yellowfin before dark which allowed for most of the anglers on board to catch at least one which allowed me to feel satisfied about our day today.  Catching fish on a departure day.  Those fish were free.  Tomorrows the true day.  That's when we get real nasty.  So right now we're anchored up in the cove of an island and I couldn't be happier about it.  For the last week at night this boat has been running.  We've always been traveling somewhere so it feels real nice to be on anchor with the engines off.  It's even better that we're in a protected cove.  It's like being in the bay.  I can't speak for everyone on board but I'm pretty sure I'll be sleeping with my thumb in my mouth tonight.  Until tomorrow....
        
 

We just don't see the sign of 200 lb. plus tuna that we would like to. There is plenty of 70-125 lb. tuna but we are going to bust a move to look for some cows. Weather is still flat clam. Lunch was wahoo enchiladas. (Tom donated the wahoo) Dinner was a pork tenderloin. No hors d'oeuvres today. We need a break.
