                I'm pretty sure there are no yellowtail on this side of the Island.  If there were, we would have seen them.  This place was very lively this morning.  Pretty much, everywhere we looked, there was good bait and bird sign.  I'm sure if there were any yellows around they would have made a showing.  We stayed in the best area for hours, drifting for groupers and halibut and what ever else would bite our lines hoping to see those yellows pop up but they never did.  They weren't around here.  Unfortunately, we couldn't look anywhere else because the weather was no good.  It was fine where we were.  A strong wind but the swell was blocked by the Island.

 

                So we're just sitting here now waiting for the wind to back off above here.  We're messing around catching bass.  The wind pretty much went away in the lee here.  Hopefully that's a sign things are backing off up above here.  We should be on our way home around midnight.  Our weather program shows very tolerable weather then.

                                                                               

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-17-2016 #2 I meant to send this picture of the fathom meter this morning but I forgot about it. This is a screenshot of our fathom meter last night when we hooked the 115 pounder that Jack caught. You can see these Bluefin like to hang between 26 to 40 fathoms. That's pretty darn deep. If you look up towards the upper part of the screen, you will see two flat straight lines. One of them is in the middle of the screen at about 4 fathoms and the other is on the left side at about 11 fathoms. That is somebody under the boat using a live bait sinker rig. Also in the center of the screen you'll see a forward slash. It is light in color and broken up starting at about 4 fathoms going down to 12 fathoms. That is somebody winding a jig up. If you look between 7 to 13 fathoms you'll see a jig someone is dropping down. The point I want to make is that these fish are typically deep and you need to be able to get your bait or jig down into the deeper water columns where these fish are at. Knowing this you should be using those big heavy jigs or heavy torpedo sinker to increase your chances of hooking one of these trophy fish. The tuna did not show up. A couple of us saw schools that did not cooperate at all. We picked up a few yellowtail on kelp patties and a handful yellowfin tuna for the day. We are heading home to regroup. We would like to thank Archie Steele and the gang for joining us we had a great time with the crew and some fantastic fishing the first part of the trip. Hi Anglers

Well I tried to get a hold of Drew since four this afternoon to no avail. And that's usually a good thing...and indeed it was. Finally at seven he picked up and said he was getting them good. He had 117 bluefin, and it was all that nicer 25-35 lb. grade. It's amazing this fishing has been going on since June. I hope I don't jinx myself here, but it looks like we're heading for a record year here on bluefin.

Great times catching Bluefin, Yellowfin and Yellowtail over the last two days on our Okuma/ Soft Steel sponsored 2 day trip.

Capt Mike Pritchard of the Tribute called in on the first day of a 2 day charter, we have over 60 Yellowfin of a really nice grade. We currently have 3 hanging and they are ranging from 25 - 30 pounds, with a couple in the low 40 pound range. Very good fishing and they are even biting the popper, which makes it even more exciting. Hopefully we will have more today and tomorrow, we will check back in later.

We don’t ever take for granted just how lucky we are to have perfect weather and phenomenal fishing in the end of October. 177 yellowfin tuna.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-22-2016 Today fared out to be a very productive day for our efforts. From shortly after sunrise clear til the end of the day, we kept a pretty consistent bite going. There was a couple lulls here and there, but all and all, there wasn't much down time to lose interest. The grade of fish was more than acceptable, staying pretty consistent at he 15-20 lb range. Not much more to ask for usually always having a least a couple going. With that type of fishing, there were very few fish lost due to tangles and so forth. All and all there was no complaints. Tonight we head out to see what tomorrow brings. We'll check back in tomorrow and until then, this is the Supreme Crew out. Tight lines and tails up, Team Supreme

Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-24-2019 We arrived early afternoon to the fishing grounds. We had a good afternoon of fishing on tuna from 12 to 35 pounds. Most of the fish were down toward the lower end of the spectrum. We didn't see much sign of anything else but the tuna throughout the afternoon but were still going to stay another day here to get fixed up on them. Late in the day we decided to pull the anchor and go troll around about 40 minutes before dark but picked up a old seiner anchor that weighed about 500 pounds. That ended those plans! It took us about three hours to get rid of it and fix everything it broke! Quite the tussle. Good weather still a little squally and rainy at times but good seas! See you tomorrow.
