estero bay Fishing Report 2024

This past winter the San Diego family lost one of its most beloved members. Mike Morrison known as “Iron Mike” was a dedicated regular who loved chasing bluefin and always kept positive outlook whether he caught one or not. Today his brother landed a 145 pounder and it had Mikes name written on the belly. This fish was one of 18 landed. The other 17 were 60-80 pounders.

Yesterday night Captain Ryan Bostian called in with a Coronado Islands update. We are probably having the best Yellowtail fishing we have ever seen at the Coronado Islands. Yesterday Captain Taro had a charter with 145 Yellowtail. Two days ago we had 251 Yellowtail. The boat is not sold out we do have spots available You will need a passport. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-06-2019 The Polaris supreme departed today on Bill Stephens annual eight day trip. We got a nice early start and are hoping to arrive at our final destination in a few days bright and early. We have a great group of guys/and one girl heading south excited about the signs that Alec saw last trip on the simpatico trip. No pictures yet will save that for when we start catching something. We started fishing in the dark and went full speed all day long on beautiful grade tuna 30-40 lbs. with several in the 80-120 lb. class being caught on the kite. We had several heart breakers with the sharks eating some of the big ones. The day was spiced up with a handful of wahoo. Our weather is absolutely gorgeous. Flat calm heavy overcast. We had a great day and are excited to try it again tomorrow. Thanks, Tommy and crew

Ryan Bostian called in with this report for the San Diego. "We went out on an offshore fishing trip with 18 anglers. We caught full Mexican limits of Yellowtail. We had limits real early in this trip. It took us 2 or 3 kelps to catch the limits. We spent the rest of the day looking around for Tuna or Dorado. We managed to catch 6 Dorado. We saw some Bluefin tuna but we were unable to get it to bite. Things are looking good down here guys. We're fishing 20 to 40 miles from home. The fishing action is right in our wheelhouse in terms of distance.

Polaris Supreme Trip Up Date 11-16-2013

First thing's first on today's report. Happy 1st anniversary to both captain Drew and his lovely bride, Kristen. Congratulations to you both. Since we're on the subject of significant others, hello again to both Kathy and Marla.You are both missed. The crew is once again too busy to sit up top and work a keyboard, so you are stuck with me again.

Weather out here remains stellar. Flat calm. Everyone on board has tagged a wahoo some have tagged 5. John Devore trolled up a real beauty out in the middle of nowhere that we'd like to see a few more of. Fishing has not been exactly red-hot, but has certainly been keeping us on our toes. We're currently on our way into Magdalena Bay to top off our bait. It's the first time we've seen land in about five days. Cocktail hour is underway. Tomorrow's plans are being plotted. This evening's dinner will be started with an Italian tuna soup, followed by a seared fillet mignon and scallops stir-fry, served with a roasted garlic risotto and sauteed broccoli. YUM!

One observation I have to share today was while trolling. I looked up and realized that a flock of frigate birds had been following us for several hours. The wingspan on these magnificent birds must be at least four feet. They look like prehistoric pterodactyls from the right angle. Nature is amazing. It's an incredible world out there. P.S. We have landed about 150 Wahoo the last 2 days but kept only 46 for the trip. We released the rest. I have never seen this many small Wahoo. We are about 3 years too early on this school. The ones we kept where dandy's. Tommy

To say we were disappointed with our results on this beautiful 20+ ft kelp would be an understatement. This sweaty Betty was located in the same water as yesterday’s small kelp that kicked out limits of dorado. Mother Ocean humbles us once again. 5 yellowtail, 2 dorado, 2 bonito.

38 Yellowfin, 117 Yellowtail, 4 Dorado and 18 Skipjack. A fine November day.
