Hello everyone,
Today we had to work at it. The Yellowtail did not come easy, but we were able to piece it together with a couple flurries in the morning. For the most part the Yellowtail being tagged have been great size,18-35 lbs! In addition to the Yellowtail we we did land some beautiful grouper. Both Snowy and Leopard!. A great 8 day trip bonus!

Pretty good sign of yellowtail for the first few hours in the morning. They were up boiling around good and showing on the machines but we were having trouble getting them to settle with the boat. We'd hook a few here and a whack there but nothing steady. We saw a couple more schools through out the day but it was the same thing. Nothing would settle. It was racing up and down the island. We ended the day 5 fish a rod of the jumbo quality and decided to head up the line to fish albacore the day after tomorrow. We should have good working weather so we're hoping the fish are chewing when we get there.

Captian Ryan Bostian called in this evening with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We had our first trip of the year today and we caught 42 Yellowtail (18 to 25 pounds). This was our first trip after doing a couple months of boat work. We did catch fish on using surface iron and yoyo too! If you plan on coming out on the San Diego please be prepared to fish both Surface Iron and Yoyo. You might also want to bring a bait stick too!

GOOD GRADE ! We knew something was different when we had been stopped for 20 minutes with 20+ tuna hooked and we still had not put one on the boat. After a couple hours of drifting and many “zing-pows”. We managed to land 82 (22-30 lb ) yellowfin. We also had a late afternoon skipjack riot for 138 fish.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-12-2016
Good afternoon guys and gals, Polaris Supreme checking in. We arrived to the spot early this morning and the big yellowtail started biting right off the bat! We were catching them on fly line baits and surface irons primarily. It was exciting to watch these fish swim up to the surface irons and bashed them out of the water. At times LB, the charger master's son, could not go two casts without getting followed or bit on the surface iron. We had a steady 2 to 3 fish going, at times more, until about 9am. We were still hooking fish but we got word from one of our code boats that there is some pretty good yellowfin tuna fishing going on within our reach. So we have now decided to go on the hunt for yellowfin tuna. We have good weather for it!

The Tribute out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, CA checked in with us today.
33 Yellowfin and 3 Bluefin for our 26 Angler’s today. Lots of action from 1100 on, but these bigger Yellowfin did their fair share of damage to the lighter gear.

We're going to go ahead and chalk this one up as a travel day. That's pretty much what we did today. Starting last night. And it was a rough one. As soon as we got a couple hours northeast of the stones things got a bit windy and the boat started to rock. Not good sleeping weather. We got through it though. Even Chef Mike got breakfast out without too much whining this morning. Things started to smooth out a couple of hours prior to arriving to our fishing hole. Our fishing hole didn't prove to be very productive though. So we traveled up. That's something you have to do on these longer trips when you fish the Rocks or the Ridge. It's a long way down there. So we caught a few wahoo on our travel day.
Unfortunately the weather picked back up this afternoon and we've been scooping waves over the house steady since 3:00 or so. Right now I turned it down swell for dinner because we have a couple hours to kill. We're going to head back up to our tuna/wahoo honey hole from the beginning of the trip and hope for good weather. Just two days left to fish on this trip.
