July 28th, 2010 Good evening to all.

Today was our final day of our SoCal Tuna Club 5 day trip and there was only one thing on our minds...Albacore. As of now, Albacore are still on our minds because we didn't quite connect with what we had hoped for. We had a few stops throughout the day that made our day not all for lost, but overall it was a slow day. Everyone in the zone were concentrated on a tiny little area with the hopes that the late afternoon float would be grand. The float, or lack there of, was definitely not grand.

 

 

 

Although we did see a couple massive schools of Albacore late in the day, we never saw the whites of their eyes. No boils, no hookups, no go. Encouraging to see such a nice volume of fish but discouraging to not get any response whatsoever. Scores for the day varied and we were smack dab right in the middle. Let my clarify, it wasn't like some guys clobbered them and some guys didn't. It was a slow day of fishing for all the boats down here and the numbers weren't so great. Needless to say, we feel very fortunate to have caught what we caught. At dark, we called it a trip and began heading for the barn. The best bite of the day was in the galley for sure. Our traditional final night feast of filet and lobster dinner was enjoyed by all. Our thanks goes out to our fine passengers today for always being on call to throw a bait in the water and keeping a good attitude towards the day. We'll be arriving tomorrow morning around 7:00 am to unload, refuel, resupply, reload and do it all over again with Tom Chaparro and the Stern Hogs. Thanks for checking in. Have a pleasant evening. July 27th, 2010 Howdy gang.

Today's day from the offshore grounds was nothing to write home about but we're going to do it anyways. The numbers weren't the greatest but we sure did see a lot of life in the area. Birds picking on the bait from the surface and Bluefin tuna attacking from the bottom. We saw tons of fish and only managed to capture a handful. If this stuff decides to get on the bite, it's going to be a lot of fun for us. For now, we'll just keep our fingers crossed until then. We'll be finishing off our trip on the hunt for Albacore for our last day. Our weather is improving as we speak and we're currently enjoying a nice ride. Here's a rundown of our adventures to "Yellowtail Land" for the 25th / 26th of July. We arrived to our first destination just after dinner and began the dropper loop assault. Well, it wasn't quite an assault, but we did manage 7 quality yellowtail between 25-30 lbs. The gang fished hard throughout the night but sleep ultimately was needed, so we made the decision to bust a move and start off elsewhere in the morning. The morning time brought us cloud cover and breeze. Not bad by any means, but it was a little cold for my liking. Anyways, what was not cold was the fishing we enjoyed for the next few hours. Steady drift fishing for yellowtail in the 14-20 lb. range and that was before we decided to drop anchor. After we came tight on the anchor, it was GAME ON! Now I know you might be asking "Richie. What was the preferred method of fishing for these fish?" Well, today it was having a live bait or a jig with a hook on the end of it. Pretty simple. They bit very, very well and just to top off a stellar morning of fishing, the skies were sunny and the seas were flat calm. Awesome. After Chef Schooler kicked out his signature Carnitas Taco Plate with all the fixin's, we pulled anchor, gave up our spot to our fellow code boat, and boogie'd out of the area to focus solely on tuna fishing for the next couple of days. Now our plan is to go and catch lots of albacore and lots of bluefin. We'll be sticking to the plan, but it's all up to the tuna to make it happen. Currently, our weather is a little choppy but it's nothing we can't handle. Wish us luck and stay tuned. Richie and the members of TEAM SUPREME. P.S. Drew says hi mom. July 25th Sunday Of shore fishing just isn't working out south of the border lately. Weather was good and catching was bad untill dark when we slid into the island for a little night bite on 25 to 30 lb Yellowtail. It was just a taste of what we are hoping for tomorrow. Our Southern California Tuna Club Anglers got to bed around 11:00 pm and we are off to set up for the morning. The local boys scratched up a afternoon after what was a brutally slow morning of albacore fishing up north. We are hoping that is on the up swing for the end of our trip. Good luck tomorrow and find me some fish. Good night and thanks for tuning in. Tommy and Crew. July 24th Saturday Off we go on a 5 day Trip. Our Charter head Dr. Al Hermer has put together a Limited load group of only 20 anglers for this adventure. As the end of the day approached we received news of one boat with over 100 Albacore and 4 others in the 60s. With the inconsistency in the bite we decided to head for the yellow tail grounds first. The weather is a little choppy but our ride is good heading down as our anglers dine on prime rib. Tomorrow will be a off shore day. We have a nice load of bait and are looking forward to putting it to good use. Thanks Tommy and crew

 Remember yesterday I was talking about plans? Well if you read my first report of the trip I talked about dragging our feet a day and waiting for the weather to get pristine out at the Rocks. That was the master plan and well, it worked out. Today we had great weather to go along with our great wahoo fishing. We arrived to the grounds at 7:30 and we were getting steady jig strikes on wahoo to go along with jigging and baiting until about 5:30 when things around here went to bed. I really wanted 4 more wahoo for the magic number but we tried and tried and we gave up. The fish went to bed so we will too. We're now sitting on anchor getting ready to enjoy a nice sunset before eating a nice dinner. Like I said , the weather couldn't be better. We'll have a great nights sleep. We're going to try this again in the morning and take it from there. It's the last day we ever get in August of 2014 and I'm glad we spent it here.

Good evening, today was a travel day for us, Our day started off with a 0700 wake up call for breakfast and shortly after breakfast we began our fishing seminar. Some of the topics we covered were fishing live bait, Jig fishing for whaoo, Trolling, Big tuna fishing, Kite fishing, and of course Safety.The rest of the day the crew helped the passengers rig wire leaders, wind on line and rig up to do battle with wahoo and tuna. We are making good speed south and should reach our first fishing spot around 0900 tomorrow morning. So until then wish us luck.

Capt Ryan checked in from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing to give us a report from todays 3/4 day trip, we fished the Corondo Islands today for 59 Yellowtail. Fishing seems like it has been good for the last year, we have a shot everyday fro some good fishing. We do have some down days as yesterday we only got 26 Yellowtail, we are finding plenty of schools with fish ranging from 10 to 30 lbs. When you come down make sure and bring a flyline rig, a yoyo rig and a surface iron setup. We have had some recent success recently with some days of getting up to 80+ Yellowtail. The fish are starting to rebound, so come on down and get in on the action. We depart everyday at 5:30 am, come on down and see us.

Offshore kelping today was tough. Not a whole lot of action. Plenty of kelps with not much on them at times, and areas of water with no kelps in it. We had one kelp mid afternoon where we had some action on shaker size yellows up to 20 pounders and a kelp in the morning with a handful of dorado on it. We'll be at Cedros in the early morning trying to get a tank or two of bait and begin our day yellowtail fishing.

Capt Ryan Bostain from the San Diego out of Seaforth Landing called in a report after going offshore today, we had a nice mixed bag of fish today. We had 50 anglers on board and ended the day with 60 Yellowtail, 38 Yellowfin Tuna and 5 Bluefin Tuna. The Yellowtail were in the 7-12 pound range and the Yellowfin were 15 - 35 pounders. We got a school of larger Bluefin Tuna and only managed to put on the boat around 50 pounds. We are going to continue offshore, if you want to come out bring an assortment of live bait set ups. You\'ll need size 2 - 2/0 hooks and maybe some smaller sliding sinkers. See you on the water.

Hi friends and happy Columbus Day. For the morning time up until around 1300 hours this afternoon, we sure felt like Columbus. The on-going search for a kelp paddy was getting to the point where I felt that we were going to sail right off the map and into oblivion. Between myself and our mast-men, we searched high and low with the one other boat in the upper area until our eyes were beginning to bleed and our faces burnt by the wind. By morning's end, our tally was a Bluefin tuna and four Yellowtail, ouch. I wish that I could type that we made some crazy move to left field and got on something spectacular to end our day but that just wouldn't be truthful. Well, half of that sentence is true.

We owe our day to our long-range brother, code group affiliate, and good friend, Roy Rose on the Royal Polaris. The "RP" was coming up the line from Cedros Island and really wasn't looking to do any type of fishing as they were just wrapping up an 11-day trip. But Roy is a very cool cat and when Roy's not fishing, he's fishing. Bottom-line, he was more than willing to help us out, drag some jigs, and scan the horizon for signs of life for a few hours as a lower area check. At around 1300 hours, Roy called us up and informed us that he had a couple blind jig strikes on Yellowfin, a couple bait-fish, and he also saw a very nice kelp paddy that he stopped on and --as he put it-- was"corroded" with Yellowtail. Being only a couple hours from his position, we kicked the tires and lit the fires down to his position where he graciously marked this beauty of a kelp for us and he was one-hundred percent correct; this kelp was LOADED with Yellowtail. We made three drifts on the kelp, got all we needed and began the search for tuna, which was unsuccessful, but our day was salvaged thanks to our good friends on the RP. My point is, that it's good to know good people, and Roy is one of the best and we owe him greatly. Although Roy is one of the nicest guys around, any one of our long-range brethren would've done the same for us as we would for them. Helping out each other is what makes the long-range fleet one of the finest teams you'll find and today was a perfect example of teamwork and sacrifice. Thanks Roy.

With that, we're making our way up the line in a little bit of weather. Fifteen knots of wind (weatherman was bad. Bad weatherman!) and a mild sea is bumping us up and down a little bit, but it could be a lot worse. We'll take this weather we have now as long as it doesn't build. We'll be back to the docks sometime tomorrow in the mid-morning time and we'll be returning on Saturday afternoon for Joe Giglioti's 8-day trip. If you can swing it, there are still a couple of spots available and Joe will be bringing some goodies from Accurate Reels to give away to our ultra limited-load of anglers.
