detroit lake Fishing Report 2025

Captain Ryan Bostian called in with an audio update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. Today we had every intention of fishing for Yellowtail. We checked our usual spots and could not find any fish. The water rolled at the Coronado Islands. So we headed West and we ran into Bluefin Tuna. We say large schools of tuna in the 50 to 100 pound range.

We ended up catching 6 of these trophies (up to 65 pounds). They were biting on 40 pound fly-lined sardines. You might also get lucky on surface iron or popper action. We are going to be running Bluefin Tuna trips. There have been some fish caught up to 245 pounds this year.

Hello Everyone, We just returned from our annual Steele 5 day charter. Hosted of course by the one and only Archie Steele. Two things come to mind when this trip rolls around, central valley anglers that love to put fish on the boat and a whole slew of summer produce that we don't normally get our hands on. Yellow Peaches and Asparagus aside we rolled into the yellowtail zone bright and early. There was good sign there and we began fishing. To our pleasant surprise we began landing beautiful 15-20lb yellowfin tuna! A welcome sight, especially because the average size recently was on the smaller side. As we settled in the Yellows got on us pretty good. Helping get the rust off for most of these anglers. Around late morning our current died and we went into a sort of midday lul. We were still able to hang a fish every now and then but not like before. Thankfully it did fire up again around 330, and this time it was hot and heavy. Very steady yellow tail action, had one going the whole time with flurries of 5-7 at a time. All large 20-28lb beautiful yellowtail. Couldn't ask for a better average! We spent the latter part of the trip trying to top off our yellowtail counts and also catch a few exotics. We spent the day searching high and low for Yellows and Dorado. Never got the boomer hit that we were hoping for but we were able to scratch up a handful of Dorado and some more great sized yellowtail. That concluded our five day adventure. Good fishing on great sized Yellowfin tuna, Yellowtail, and Dorado. A great variety trip that kept us on our feet the whole time. Polaris Supreme Trip Up Date 11-17-2013

Another productive day of scratch fishing here aboard the Polaris Supreme, off of the Baja Mexico coast. A bit more variety than days past, even to the point of stumping the marine biologist passengers aboard in identifying a bottom dwelling creature or two that were incidental catches. Anything that comes aboard that stumps the boat is typically referred to generically as a "snarf" of some type. Seems as though there's always something new to discover on these trips.

Our weather continues to behave, and we're loving that. I don't believe that we've had 10 knots of wind at any point over the past eight days. We couldn't ask for better weather. The sea temperature is dropping slightly as we head into the more northerly latitudes, though. We were up bright and early this morning, before daybreak, and watched as the moon set in the distance, glimmering off of the calm ocean. It looked like a French impressionist painting, except that we were experiencing it, and it was all around us, rather than someone else's rendition hanging on a museum's wall.

Crewmember Mark modeled his hardhat briefly this afternoon. I think it's in anticipation of his getting ready to do something really stupid, and being sentenced by the rest of the crew to wearing it for an extended period of time. Think of it as the Polaris Supreme's version of a dunce cap. Kristin, I apologize for spelling your name incorrectly yesterday. Happy anniversary AGAIN to both you and Captain Drew.

Dinner tonight is fresh wahoo, with some rice and green beans, I believe. I only eat the dinners to get my hands on the incredible desserts that they've been serving. Not really ... I only eat the desserts to make Captain Tommy feel less guilty for his indulgences.

Wow, what a frustrating day. Great signs, many schools, but not one that wanted to bite real good. A couple of the boats did ok, so there are still some fish that wanted to bite. Just not the ones under us. On an up note, Jim landed one that is right on the fence at 199 lbs. Our weather is still beautiful, and Pedro is still putting out great food like the veal shank we had tonight. We are optimistic that our luck will change tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.

Polaris Supreme Trip Report 07-11-2014

Hello Sportfishing Fans. We are off on Bill Stephens annual 5 day with out Bill. He couldn't make it due to work scheduling. What a bummer working all year putting together a trip and not being able to go. Any way we all appreciate it. From all of us on the Polaris Supreme Thanks Bill. We have started the trip off with a bang at the bait receiver's picking up a nice load of 6 in. sardines and cured anchovies to go with a couple of tanks of green back mackerel Drew and the boys caught last trip. It looks like there is some tuna fish to catch very close to home so why not stop and try it? We did and we saw a couple schools of bluefin. One acted like bluefin but on the other we hooked 3 and caught 2-35 pounders. I wish that stuff would move south 150 miles. That would make it more convenient for a long range boat. We also caught a handful of yellowfin. We're going to head south and probably start early in on the coastal grounds for yellowtail before heading offshore to the tuna grounds in the afternoon.

The weather is getting windier the further south we go so we're planning on it wind tomorrow.
