Today was spent traveling in good, but foggy weather. Basically we just rigged tackle and ate a bacon, avocado, sprout omelet for breakfast. Rigged more gear and had a giant Texas cheeseburger for lunch. Rigged more gear then snacked on salmon, tuna, shrimp and eel sushi and sashimi. Rigged more gear and finished off the day with a beef tenderloin with a tomato, basil pesto sauce. Just rigging and eating and anxious to get to the fishing grounds!

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay. We had 36 passengers today catch 180 Yellowfin Tuna (LIMITS), 7 Dorado, 50 Yellowtail and 50 Skipjack. We had a long run to get these fish but we had great. It was a one done deal!

Sunday, June 17th.

Hello everybody. First off, we here on the Polaris Supreme would like to wish all the dad's out there a happy Father's day and we would like to assure all the mother's back home that the young men on-board are beat. Tired and happy as can be from an eventful first day of fishing. Worry not about them, they are sleeping soundly and are looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow morning.

We arrived to our destination on schedule due to our phenomenal weather and proceed to look around for a bit. To no avail, we made a move a little ways to some fresh country and upon arrival, spotted a breezer of Bluefin tuna. Most guys went out with their 30 lb. outfits as we hadn't yet seen a boil to get a size estimate. After a couple minutes of drifting, the ocean, which was peaceful and calm for the past twenty-four hours, was now full of big, beautiful Bluefin tuna erupting all around the boat and it was a classic scenario of hunting elephants with deer rifles. We hooked a few on the lighter gear and actually managed to land a couple and as for the rest, you all can guess what happened. Once we started fishing a little bit heavier gear, the bites diminished a bit but what we did hook, we landed and they were some real beauties. It was one of those classic Bluefin deals that warrants a stealthy, 50 lb. rig with the best bait you can find and although we had very little wind (which is a problem when trying to fly a kite) we did successfully hook a couple on the balloon rigs and what a show that presented. We drifted for four hours and came out with a couple handfuls of gorgeous 50-100 lb. shortfins but that wasn't without a few heartbreaks as well. Like I said, a short topshot of fluorocarbon with a 3/0 hook, two-speed reel and a strong, castable rod is the best bet for landing these trophies. It was truly a spectacular show that these fish put on for us as fish were blowing out all around the boat. Kind of gets frustrating at times seeing all those fish and not hooking them like you should but that's how Bluefin fishing is sometimes. We're just thankful that we had our shots and connected on a couple o trophies. Some of them are bigger than the kids that landed them. Pretty cool.

Anyhow, the rest of our day consisted of a spot of jumpers that produced some 25 lb. Bluefin, a couple Yellowfin tuna jig strikes and a kelp loaded with rat Yellowtail. Going from 100 lb. Bluefin to 3 lb. Yellowtail might disappoint some, but the kids sure weren't disappointed, they were pumped! We had a good ole time catching and releasing all of the juveniles to grow but like I said, it was the most fun the kids had all day. So with that, our day was complete and we've decided to make a move into some more coastal waters to not only elude the wind that is forcasted for tomorrow but to also try for some Yellowtail of greater size than the ones we caught today.   Today was rough.I'm not talking about the fishing.  I'm talking about the weather.  We were expecting this though.  We knew it would be this way so we had plans all along to keep it a down swell day.  We started west and moved east jigging up small tuna.  We expected this as well.  We must of caught 50 tuna this morning but only 10 of them wound up with tags stapled to there gills.  All the rest went back into the ocean to fight another day.  Right before lunch we hit a nice kelp and caught 20 nice yellows.  We thought we were going to string together a few kelps after that but that was the last thing we saw all day long other than a few jig strikes on throw back tunas.  So we're headed to the Island now and we'll be there before daylight.  Wish us luck.

  Good news.  We're getting our Gunny back August 8th.  I miss that well done steak eating man.  If you're reading this Guns, bring another blanket.  I've been using your's aqnd it's been working great.  I've been putting it on top of my blanket though so if you want it back it shouldn't have my cooties on it.

July 23 Friday After spending all day yesterday searching and not catching our 35 albacore we caught this morning seamed like a bonanza. They shut off at 11:00 and that was that. With the Albacore hit we got on the way down and one of those days fishing Yellowtail one can only dream of, our over all fishing was great. many thanks to our charter head Paul and his great crew of anglers. But he also dose a better job scrubbing and Drew wasn't letting him get out of it. Tommy. July 22nd, 2010 Hello to all. Today we decided to look around at some new territory for the elusive albacore. I'm going to cut right to the chase, fishing was great and catching was terrible. We did see an area of birds/whales that looked promising but we never saw a tuna and that was the highlight of our day. Maybe in time this area will be productive but for now, we know where not to go. The weather is still picture-perfect and our anglers are all in good spirits. We are currently moving up the line to put ourselves in position for a full day of albacore/bluefin fishing for our final day. We'll check back in tomorrow and keep you posted on our day. Richie and Crew. July 21st, 2010 Wow, what a day we had aboard the Polaris Supreme. We arrived at our destination first thing in the morning to find calm seas and a slight overcast. After some scanning around, we located a nice school and within a few minutes we were bent over with yellowtail. It wasn't wide open by any means but it was a very enjoyable pace for our fine group of folks. Around lunch time, we went through a little lull and took full advantage of a chance to rest sore arms, enjoy a glass of water, and get out of the sun for a bit. Oh yeah, the weather was gorgeous. Flat calm with sunshine. The SPF 50 was flowing for sure. Anyhow, after a little break, it was time to go to work again. This go-around, the yellows gave off a much more ferocious vibe and we enjoyed excellent fishing to round out our day. The show of yellowtail was very impressive to say the least. Not many times when we would look into the water and not see free swimming yellowtail everywhere. In closing, we had a very fun day of fishing and we will be sleeping easy tonight. Our plan is to take a look in some different areas for tomorrow and to hopefully round out our beautiful catch of yellowtail with some tuna fish. Thanks for checking in and wish us luck. Richie and crew. July 20th, Good evening everyone, We finally wet our lines first thing this morning and it didn't take us long to get the blood flowing with some Albacore jig strikes. After some short stops for a handful of fish, we found what we we're looking for. We enjoyed a couple of very good stops that kept us busy for the morning. We also threw on a few Bluefin tuna to round out our morning. After lunch, things kind of died down and we decided to head on a southerly course to do some Yellowtail fishing. The cherry on today's sundae was the absolutely beautiful weather. Flat calm, a light breeze, and a nice cloud cover to keep us from getting too toasty. Well thanks for checking up on us. We'll be at the Yellowtail grounds first thing in the morning. Take care. Richie and crew. July 19th, Hi friends, Today we departed on our annual Paul Hess 5 day with 23 of his closest friends. After clearing Point Loma with a beautiful load of bait and an eager group of anglers, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and rigged up tackle. After our tackle seminar, Sandra and Dave Lafferty went to work in the galley preparing a meal fit for kings and queens. Appetizers, clam chowder and Caesar salad. Main course, Fresh salmon and crab cakes with a hollandaise sauce with gourmet macaroni and cheese, asparagus and corn. To top off the meal, we enjoyed homemade cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. To sum it up, it was excellent. The service was top notch as well. Paul and Kyle served it up and Matt kept those dishes sparkling clean. The whole dinner was a thank you from Paul and friends for 10 years of the fine service he's been treated to onboard the Polaris Supreme. From all of us, thank you to Paul and the gang. Anyhow, reports from the tuna grounds sound encouraging so we will find ourselves in the zone tomorrow morning. Thanks for checking in and we'll keep you updated on what we do. Wish us luck. Drew Henderson docked Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing August 12 after four days of fishing. His anglers had near-limits of yellowtail, mostly from Cedros Island, where he found mackerel to be superior bait, and fish biting at both ends. Drew said his anglers released some 200 fish. Henderson's posting for August 10 read: "We started our trip making the long haul down to Benitos Island due to the bad weather and bad offshore report. We got to the Island at about two thirty. We got held up with a giant school of 3 to 4 foot giant squid. I can't say it was bad there, I mean we caught a lot of fish we just had to go through lots of little ones to get the bigger ones. We gave the night bite a couple hours only getting ten fish and took off towards Cedros. "The morning was great. Everyone woke up to bent rods. After a couple hours the current slowed and the slime (barracuda) took over. We did a little scouting and found some large model yellows and had a couple of long plunking drifts. Then we took off to the northern head to gain some time for tomorrow and give it a check and found the honey hole. Mucho Fisho. All the beautiful grade, and they chewed until we all got our fill. We're traveling up tonight to do some offshore tomorrow until it's time to go home." Dave Betz of Huntington Beach won first place for a 27.6-pound yellowtail he bagged with a sardine on a 1/0 ringed Gorilla hook and 20-pound P-Line. He said he fished with his favorite Accurate 270 reel, and a Calstar six-foot rod. The fight ran to 35 minutes, he said. Forrest Broyles of Kelseyville got a 25.4-pounder. He was tied by Ken Wan of Oakland for second place.
