We had some short range trips online and were able to catch a good amount of school sized fish and 3 jumbo tuna! Including the First 2 cow tuna to come aboard the Polaris Supreme in 4 years!

Hey guys:

I'd like to check in and give you guys a recap of our last week at the Coronado Islands as well as prepare you for what you can expect this week. This is the time of year when surface fish are the target species. Yellowtail , barracuda , calico bass , sandbass and white seabass are all on the menu right now. Most of our trips last week we caught between 5-15 yellows 50-150 barracuda and 30-70 calico bass. An area of squid has moved into the island area and some of our trips have started out jigging live squid to use for bait. Squid jigs will be provided by the boat if we decide to stop for squid. Having the live squid opens up a few more options for us.

I want to give you guys a list of rods and reels you should bring out this time of year. One 15 lb. rod with a bass rod and reel like a Calcutta or curado for fishing anchovies and plastics for calico bass and sandbass. One 25 lb. or 30 lb. rod for fly lining sardines . One 30 lb. rod for fishing a live squid with a small sliding egg sinker. The fourth outfit is optional and it is a 40 lb. jig stick for fishing the surface iron.

While everyday is different on the ocean and we need to be prepared for a variety of fish this time of year. These 4 outfits will have you prepared. A wise man once told me " the definition of luck is when preparation and opportunity collide".

Hi everyone. We had ourselves a slow day, plain and simple. We had a few jig strikes throughout the day and our big excitement was a blind jig strike for 10 of those 25-40 lb. yellowfin tuna. Other than that, we enjoyed lovely weather throughout the day and Charlie Middleton issued me my favorite nickname of all, Mr. Magnificent. It says everything that you need to know about me, thanks Charlie Murphy! Anyhow, we're currently en route to the area where we had a couple of kelps last trip for some quality yellowtail and dorado. Let's see if we can't pick off a kelp and get down to business. Wish us luck.

P.S. I'd like to wish my beautiful mother, Cindy, a very happy birthday. I hope you enjoy your day and I'm sorry that I couldn't be there with you. I'm going to catch you a delicious yellowtail tomorrow.

We traveled down to do some island fishing and late in the day we got into some excellent quality yellowtail. However, it wasn't going to stop there. Our evening bite was fantastic. Absolutely beautiful big yellowtails. Most all were over 30 lbs and lots over 40 lbs. Today was a fun day to be on the water. Thanks for checking in. Tommy and crew P.S.  Good evening everyone and happy Halloween.  Things didn't fair too well for us this morning at last weekends hot tuna spot.  You can tell it was a week closer to November because there were only 4 of us there compared to 15 of us there last week.  Anyways, like I said, things didn't fair too well for us there.  That doesn't mean the tuna weren't there though.  At least one of the boats there did well today.  We didn't have the patience for it today though.  At least not for the veal grade, so we took off at lunch time.  We took off in search of dorado.  And wouldn't you know it, things worked out.  We found three productive kelps this afternoon.  The last kelp almost being a fixer upper.  So it worked out.  We had a good day.  130+ fish day.  That'll do.

 So we'll be in for the week, and we're going to come back out here again next Friday.  We're going to bring along with us the Inside Sportfishing crew.  They want to do an episode so if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we'd love to have you.  And then after that we leave on a 10 day.  So if that sounds like something you may be interested in, we loved to have you then as well.

Starting November 1st we will be running full day Coronado Islands trips. Bring your yellowtail gear and your passport.

After a 5+ hour drift we pointed for home with 50 bluefin(20-60lbs) and 42 yellowfin(15-35lbs). Never know what we might see on the ocean. Bring rods to fish 20-40lb line and size 4-2/0 hooks.
