 Oh how quick game plans can change out here.  Hello all and welcome back.  Or welcome me back.  Or... What was the question?  Never mind.  I'm back.  I had a wonderful trip off.  Spent a lot of time with my daughter.  She got much cuter in the last month and also became much more of a terror.  All joy though.

 When we left the dock this afternoon I felt pretty good about my game plan.  Go fish yellows for a day or two, then come catch tuna for the last couple of days.  We caught over a hundred tuna today on our departure day.  Good ones too.  20-40 pounders minus one 20 fish stop on small yellowfin.  Well that just threw a wrench in my whole plans.  I'm not whining though.  We're very grateful for what we caught today.  Not every boat in this ocean caught fish today.  So we're going to take it one day at a time now.  Hopefully we can do this again tomorrow.

July 11
 The morning started off so promisingly. We had plans to haul butt down to the lower grounds where there had been some good kelping but we got stopped short. The setup was epic. We had a 1-2 degree water temp break, and we were instantly catching fish. They were mostly small yellowfin. There was a sprinkling of 15-20+ pound tuna in there but most were throwbacks. But it felt like the school of straight bigs was right off the bow. We found a nice kelp and caught a dozen nice yellows and some more of that small tuna with a sprinkle, and again, we felt like it was soon coming. It never came. We stayed very busy but unfortunately it was mostly that throwback yellowfin. Eventually we gave up on what we thought was our honey hole and we never found much else the rest of the day. The lower zone produced enough for the couple boats that were down there so we're going to start down there tomorrow.

 

 

 

The weather was great most of the day. It got a bit breezy late but hopefully that comes down tomorrow.

Ryan Bostian called in to give this report for the San Diego. "I'm calling to give you guys the Coronado Island fish report. Today we went out with 52 passengers and we came back with 74 Yellowtail. Coronado Islands just keeps kick'in them out. 60% of our fish were 6 to 10 lbs, & 40% were 20 to 30 lbs. Come on out with us and enjoy a great time fishing. Polaris Supreme Trip Report 09-26-2019 Good afternoon everyone I hope you guys had a great day like we did! Our weather was absolutely slick flat calm all day. I am afraid we're going to have to pay for this later on though. The usual rigging eating sleeping went on throughout the whole day here. Good evening. Oh boy!! We finally have some rough weather two weeks of awesome weather and it's taking a little bit of getting used to. I've only bounced back from the dash and banged the wall behind me twice so I'm pumped! I think I might have corrected my lower back issues too...not.

Anyhow, we fished for Yellowtail today and had a slow go of it for most of the day up until we had a nice go of it in the late afternoon. The fly-lined sardines were catching the majority of the 'tails but the yo-yo jigs worked a little bit as well. The "knotheads" (Mark's distant cousins) destroyed us for most of the day but during our little flurry in the later part of the day, they left us alone for the most part and we had some clean fishing. We caught a host of other species as well and when all was said and done, we had a respectable score and it was a fine way to end the day.

Dinner was awesome tonight. Our good friend Sam donated one of his tasty Bluefin--unbeknownst to him until it was served (Thanks, Sam)--and Chef Shawn seared that thing to perfection and served it with white rice and veggies and man, it was delicious. I don't know if I've ever had seared Bluefin like that before. It was out of this world and I wasn't the only one saying that. Excellent way to end the day, for sure.

So that is all. We're bouncing up the line as we speak and we'll be in the BFT zone in a couple of hours and we'll be giving it a half a day until we run out of time. We'll see what happens. The weather is up which usually is conducive to the Bluefins having their noses in the mud but crazier things have happened and we'll see if we can't connect. We'll report with you tomorrow and we'll see how this weather plays out.
