Polaris Supreme Trip Update 09-27-2019 AM Gust waiting to get to the fishing grounds! Standing By!

 Hello again everybody. I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Labor Day today. I know we sure did. It's hard not to with the kind of weather we're having right now. We could have not caught a fish today and we'd still be enjoying it. That's not how it went though. It went as planned. I knew we wouldn't have the kind of day we had yesterday. Wahoo fishing doesn't work that way. They need a rest after a whoopin. I told the passengers we'd stay until lunch and if we caught a quarter of what we caught yesterday we'd be stoked. We caught more then a quarter of what we caught yesterday and we're stoked. Distance wise it didn't make since to stick it out until dark for a few more handfuls of wahoo as apposed to leaving at lunch like we did to get into tomorrows fishing grounds at a reasonable hour. So we took off at lunch time and we'll be in the yellowtail grounds tomorrow at daylight. At least I'm hoping it's the yellowtail grounds.
 

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with some photos. We have caught four Bluefin Tuna (115, 108, 103 and 101). You need to make sure you bring the correct gear. CURRENT TACKLE RECOMMENDATION
A Shimano Talica 12 or 16 two speed filled with 65 or 80 lb spectra. Connected to 5 feet of 80 or 130 lb flouro and a 250 gram flatfall. A sinker bait rig fished with a Talica 16 or 20 two speed filled halfway with 80 lb spectra than topped off with 60 or 80 lb mono to a short leader of 80 lb flouro. A 2/0 or 3/0 circle hook and a 4-6 oz torpedo sinker.

Captain Ryan Bostian checked in tonight with an update from the San Diego. Today we had 35 anglers catch 9 Bluefin Tuna and 1 Yellowfin Tuna. We are going to stick with offshore fishing thru at least Saturday. We are keeping close tabs on the Coronado Islands but as of today the islands have been slow. Tuna fishing has been far from wide open but we believe the potential for a big hit is there. Fishing changes very fast. Don’t be a part of the “Day after” crowd. Pick a day, Pick a boat and go. No Passports required for offshore fishing.

The fish were a little off today. We hit schools all day and just never got the right one to bite. Scott released a 185 lb. and a 100 pounder. Al released a 115 lb., 170 lb., and a 190 lb. tuna. Roger released a 120 lb. and kept a 220 lb. tuna. Tom released a 190 pounder. And George released a 100 lb., a 115 lb., and a 140 pounder. Weather is still beautiful. Lunch was pastrami and swiss on rye and a clam shell pasta. Dinner New York steaks. Hors d'oeuvres were sashimi and sushi. Hopefully all this fish we saw today bites a little better tomorrow.

Fishing report for the week of sept 16-22. This past week was all about looking thru the binoculars and praying that you find the lucky kelp. Scores for the 3/4 day boats this week have ranged anywhere from 0 to 150 fish. The highlight of our week was a kelp we found on Thursday which kicked out 44 nice size dorado and 100 yellowtail. On Friday we caught our first yellowfin tuna of the season. This season is showing no signs of slowing down so make those reservations and come on down.

Captain Ryan Bostian called in last night with an update from the San Diego out fo Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego, CA. Today we had 24 anglers catch 2 Wahoo and 52 Yellowtail. The fishing was very good. We did have lose 4 Wahoo. The grade on the Yellowtail was very nice. The majority of the Yellowtail was 12 to 20 pounds. Amazing fishing and very low pressure at the islands. I would not be surprised if we see some Bluefin Tuna. We can now keep Bluefin Tuna in Mexican waters. Ryan Bostian checked in to tell us what the San Diego is doing. "The kids are back in school and if you have been waiting for an opportunity to get on the boat, with a light load, this is definitely the time for you. The Coronado Island have had very good Yellowtail signs. It has been inconsistent. We see them one day, we don't see them the next. The bite one day, they don't bite the next.

"Rockfish make up most of the counts, they last couple of days. But we always keep our eye out for Yellowtail. I don't think this season is over by any means. The water is still very warm. There is plenty of 70 degree water around. Reports have Yellowfin tuna moving up the line and there are plenty of Bluefin around. The problem with the Bluefin is finding fish that want to bite. It is just like the Dorado. There are plenty of Dorado, they just are hesitant to bite.

"It seems like the ocean is in a transition. I expect to see some good counts in a week or so. Our reservations are very light.
