clear lake iowa Fishing Report 2024

67 yellowtail. Managed to scratch some yellowtail in between hopscotching spots of Bluefin. We saw tuna from 20lbs to 200+ please come prepared.

Yesterday morning the fishing was great, but mid-day the fish went down. About 4pm we were back into some great action on the albacore and smaller grade blue fin. We also had some really nice hits on the yellowtail. Our weather yesterday and today is good. Today started slow with only a handful of albacore and bluefin. Today we departed on Joe Beck and Mal Wagstaf's annual six day trip, which is our first post-boat work excursion! We left the bay around 11am with a great load of mixed sized sardine and mackerel. Shortly after departing the bay, chef Mike prepared the guys bratwursts with a broccoli salad. We are now working our way south to the yellowfin grounds. We will be in that yellowfin zone by morning, but for the time being we are keeping our eyes out for those giant bluefin. The area we are in there are about 30 or so live bluefin tuna pen boats that are each towing two pens each. We have also seen a couple big blue whales that were heading north-bound. Polaris Supreme Trip Update 11-28-2018 Today was one of those days you want somebody to slap you just to make sure you're not sleeping/dreaming. Excellent fishing on 62 to 100 pound grade yellowfin tuna. The seas were calm but it was pretty windy at times today. Make sure you guys brings a jacket next trip! Conditions were tough with a steady uphill current into the wind all day. The passengers managed to pull it off though with a beautiful catch. We have one more day to give this a try and are hoping the weather man is wrong about the ride home on Friday to Ensenada. It looks gnarly! The Polaris Supreme crew!

Captain Ryan Bostian called in last night with an update from the San Diego out of Seaforth Sportfishing. The water temps are still hot. We have 72 to 77 degree water. Today we had 47 anglers catch 131 Yellowfin Tuna. It is hight risk fishing. On good stop makes the difference. Be sure to prepared for Anchovy and Sardine fishing. Come on down and go fishing with us this fall.

Late Post .... Sorry my Internet was dead today. Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning with good fishing. He had 53 fish of the kelps by 9 AM.

Where'd they go?? We got a few wahoo today, but nothing like yesterday. Our day consisted of scratching away at yellowfin, yellowtail, pargo, dorado, and wahoo on some different spots. Don't get me wrong. It was not a bad day fishing, just not like yesterday. Our weather is still good. Actually it's too hot, the water is 83 degrees. Not bad for the fish, but warm for us. Tomorrow we will be off shore kelping for wahoo, dorado and tuna until it's time to head home and wind up this fantastic trip. It's going to be a great fall season. Thanks for checking in.
