Polaris Supreme Trip Report 08-24-2016 As reported yesterday it was a very tough day fishing. We spent the whole day stopping on spot after spot after spot. It got to a point where I thought maybe the passengers didn't think we were really seen fish. One of the things we noticed was where the yellowfin tuna was hanging out, even though it didn't bite It Turns out it was good Intel for today. It did pay off this morning, we ended up shutting down right at daylight on a really nice school that stuck with this until after lunchtime. The grade of fish was 35 to 80 pounds. We hung with it for about another two hours and it just wouldn't bite. After about three hours of searching we finally found where the fish had moved to while we were drifting all morning. We were rewarded with another afternoon bite equal to what we caught in the morning we ended up with a fantastic day of quality, I say quality yellowfin tuna. We also had in the mix by half a dozen nice grade bluefin tuna. We are heading in and going to drop off our Joe Beck charter and pick up Beverly and her group.     Good evening folks from the bridge of the Polaris Supreme.  Let me just start off by telling you how beautiful of a night it is out here.  First of all the ocean is flat calm.  Just a super light breeze and no sea.  It's almost like we're in the bay right now.  The moon is full, huge and bright as can be and it's lighting up the night.  

    We left today on an Eric Rogger 5 day charter.  I think it's in the 30's on number of consecutive years he's been doing this one so our hat goes off to him. Owner/operator Tommy is back on board so I'll be running as second captain this trip.  I think the sardines grew about 90 percent in length and weight since the last time we got bait 3 days ago.  They're lunkers.  They'll make great yellowtail bait and I'll bet the bluefin will dig them, we'll have to see about them yellowfin.

    I guess you can tell by my questioning of the last paragraph that we didn't get in them this afternoon.  The darn fish just moved too far away for us to reach on our departure day today.  We got there minutes late but there was some pretty darn good hits this evening so we're excited about tomorrow.

Today we spent our day offshore looking for kelps. We had outstanding fishing on the smaller Yellowfin Tuna even though we released most of them.Our main target today was trying to find some Dorado, and a couple kelps had just what we needed. We ended up with with an action packed day of quality Dorado and small Yellowfin fishing. A great way to end the trip. full of action and a few bigger fish.

 Good evening all and welcome back once again to the Polaris Supreme.  Well we're in November now and with that comes a true fall 10 day trip.  We took some time off if you didn't notice.  We spent 2 weeks dockside with just a little bit of boat work to do so we had some time to ourselves.  I didn't follow what the other crew did too much.  I was to busy with a 7 month old which by the way is getting better and better and I didn't think it could.  She's hard to leave but fishing calls.

 So we're off and running.  We got a full load of should be good bait and we're headed to destinations undecided at the moment.  One thing we know is we'll be in full travel mode tomorrow so we'll have a relaxing day of tackle rigging and seminars.  The fishing sounds pretty fair at the moment.  Plenty of action on smaller grade of 10-30 pound fish in areas.  There is also some wahoo to catch if your timing is good.  There hasn't been sign of any big tuna in about a week now but we may be able to blame windy conditions and a very bright moon on that.  Right now things are changing and for us, we hope that's a good thing.

 One last thing.  It's Movember and I am sporting a very creepy stache right now.  It's a 2 week stache and it's just not long enough to look cool yet.  But I guess it's a good cause.  My hero's on the LA Clippers think so anyways.  I'll check back tomorrow but I dought(spell check tells me that dought is spelled wrong.  Facebook the right way please} I'll have much to report it being a travel day and all.

Capt Ryan Bostain called in from the San Diego the 3/4 day boat out of Seaforth Sportfishing, he said the last couple days were offshore and the fishing was on the slow side. But the good news is that they are back on the fish today, they just called in and said they have over 100 Yellowfin Tuna on the deck so far. We are fishing in US waters, so if you come down bring your California fishing license with you. We are fishing everyday looking for Bluefin, Yellowfin, Yellowtail and Dorado, the boat leaves everyday at 5:30 am and returns at 5 pm. Bring your flyline, popper and jig gear with you and come on out and have some fun.

Ryan Bostian called in with this update on fishing on the San Diego, "Boy we pulled one out of the hat today, we had zero Yellowtail on the boat at about 1:30 PM. We found some fish late in the day, we caught 15 Yellowtail, 57 Barrcuda and 25 Rockfish for 34 passengers. The water temperature dropped a little this morning with the wind that we had yesterday and the water gradually crept up and got right back up to 63.5 degrees, 64 degrees. The Yellowtail are still down here, excellent, excellent fishing late in the day. We ended up with 15 of them we lost at least another 15. The same story as earlier, they are nice size, in shallow water. If you are coming down bring 25 or 30 lb. test with 2/0 hooks and be ready to fly line some bait. You can also surface lure on the top for the folks that like to do that.
