chincoteague Fishing Report 2025

Today we went out on our daily 3/4 day trip and caught 75 yellowtail. We saw some of the biggest schools of the year today. Yo-yo lures were the best,however we did catch a few on the surface iron and fly lined bait. Our next open trip is Thursday March 28.

 Remember yesterday I was talking about plans? Well if you read my first report of the trip I talked about dragging our feet a day and waiting for the weather to get pristine out at the Rocks. That was the master plan and well, it worked out. Today we had great weather to go along with our great wahoo fishing. We arrived to the grounds at 7:30 and we were getting steady jig strikes on wahoo to go along with jigging and baiting until about 5:30 when things around here went to bed. I really wanted 4 more wahoo for the magic number but we tried and tried and we gave up. The fish went to bed so we will too. We're now sitting on anchor getting ready to enjoy a nice sunset before eating a nice dinner. Like I said , the weather couldn't be better. We'll have a great nights sleep. We're going to try this again in the morning and take it from there. It's the last day we ever get in August of 2014 and I'm glad we spent it here.

15 anglers, 27 yellowtail from 12-20 lbs and lots of big bonito. Yo yo jigs and surface iron on 40 lb mono.

The guys are out at the islands with just 11 anglers this morning. They have 30+ yellowtail so far with lots of fishing time left. Capt Matt suggests a 20 or 25 lb bait rod a 40 lb yo-yo rod and your favorite jigstick and bass rod.

Here’s the report and photos from Tuesday’s 2 Day trip: 41 Bluefin -28 from 60-90lbs -5 right at 100 -8 from 115-190 lbs 25 Yellowfin 20 from 25-40lbs 5 from 40-100lbs **Long drift all day. This big grade is biting the fin bait well. Bring your heavy tackle 60,80,100,130. The weather is improving so we posted a 1.5 Day trip for Thursday. OK tired of boat work! Need a little motivation To go out fishing on The Polaris Supreme? We have a 6 Day trip coming up in 2 weeks and it still has 7 openings on it! SUNDAY JUNE 25th. We will be targeting the 50 to 300lb Bluefin that are 10 to 100 miles just out side San Diego as well as all the other usual species. Drew Henderson brought Polaris Supreme home to Fisherman's Landing August 31 following a five-day trip to Guadalupe and Benitos. Guadalupe yellowfin swept the jackpot. The Benitos yellows were good-sized, with one 46.6-pound whopper being the best of the species caught there, by Kub Ito of harbor City. Dan Tran of Hawthorne won first place, for a 98-pound yellowfin he bagged with a sardine on a 4/0 Super Mutu hook dangled under a balloon. He said he fished with 40-pound Big Game line, an Avet LX reel and a Shimano eight-foot rod. Phil Hidey of Arcadia was second, for a 75.4-pounder, and Joe Beck, a regular long ranger and retired LA motorcycle officer won third place, for a 63.6-pound Guadalupe yellowfin tuna.

Captain Mike Pritchard called in this morning at 10:41 with an update from the Tribute. So far we have 130 Yellowfin Tuna and a couple Bluefin Tuna. We are running another trip departing on Monday.
